My new life.

Chapter 1.

I knew something bad was going to happen today, and that was before my gym teacher turned into a hell hound...

I woke to the sound of urgent beeping that seemed to pulsate through my mind. I groaned sleepily and blindly felt my bedside table top swat off my alarm clock. I happily returned to dozing in the blissful silence hoping my step dad had already left for work. Of course with my luck he hadn't.

"How many times do we have to do this Aurora?"
I peered up at Dustin, my step-dad, who was looming over me from the foot of my bed. Now that was creepy, I hadn't even heard him come in.

"You are not five years old anymore!" He continued. "You're fifteen and should be getting yourself up for school. This is your last chance! If you get thrown out of this school as well, then I'll send you to a military school, whether you or your Mother like it or not!" And with that he stormed out slamming the door behind him.

"My names RORY!" I yelled after him. Great! just great. He and my mum must have had an argument about me again. I don't understand why he hates me so much! He's always on my back and pushing my mum to send me to a military school. It's not like I asked to be kicked out of my last nine schools! He gets my little brother, Ethan to treat me like I'm a mutant! It's horrible for him, whenever Dustin's not around Ethan is fine with me, we're best friends but he always asks why daddy hates me, and I never know what to say. I had the feeling things were going to get worse tonight, I wondered if I should even bother going back there.

I sighed deeply and reluctantly slipped out of bed. A shiver surged through me as my bare feet hit the cold wooden flooring. I walked over to my wardrobe in search of an outfit that wasn't completely sucky, but when I looked inside i nearly died with horror! You know when someone goes in your room to "clean" and when you try to find things you never know where to look? Well, this was worse. Girly summer dresses hung neatly on hangers and designer shoes and handbag lined the bottom of it. All traces of my normal clothes were gone! Typical my family comes into some money and now we have a flashy new Porsche car and all my tatty clothes are chucked out because we have to look good for Dustin's company. This was a joke!

I paced my room absolutely furious, racking every inch of my brain for ideas. Suddenly I got it! I raced towards my drawers, begging someone, anyone that they forgot to empty my other set of clothes. I prized open the drawer and sighed with relief, my extra clothes were still there in the bag I packed if I ever needed to do a quick get away. I slipped into a pair of ripped skinny jeans, an old "King the kid" concert top, with a black hoodie and DM boots. I skipped breakfast with the family and rushed out the door before they could see what I was wearing.

I reached the end of my driveway and found my two best friends stood waiting for me. We were all starting a new school today after we all got kicked out of our last one for causing a food fight in the canteen with the WHOLE school.

"Hey Rory! Quick we're gunna be late, the bus is about to leave!" my friend Caleb called and we all began sprinting down the road. Now Caleb is an odd one, he walks with a limp because when he was young he broke his leg, but it was casted up wrong. However he is the fastest kid ever when he runs, I don't think I've seen anyone beat him in any track event. And then there is Taylor. She lives in a foster home and is quite the character, she's funny, fierce and and an expert pranker, but you don't want to get on her bad side.

We piled onto the bus ans collapsed on seats near the back panting. I turned round in my seat to face to other two, Taylor was red faced and exhausted like me however Caleb looked perfectly fine, I swear that boy is not human.

"Hey guys what's up?" I asked them, finally being able to talk.

"Nothing, just thinking 'bout this new school, do you think it's gunna work out?" Taylor asked her expression distant like her mind was elsewhere.

"I dunno" I said truthfully "I don't even know if my home life is working out at the moment"

"Why? What's happened now? Do i need to get my spear and pulverize Dustin again?" She replied dead serious. Sometimes I actually wondered if she was talking from experience.

"No not yet. He's just getting worse and worse, getting even more angry. He's insistent on sending me away you know." Caleb and Taylor exchanged a glance and some sort of understanding passed between them. "What? What is it?"

"Nothing" Caleb said. "Just promise you wont run away again. I don't want to see you get hurt" I nodded reluctantly. That's what I spent my whole life doing, running away every time things got bad at home. Caleb always acted so protective over me, like I was his little sister or something, like he was bound to keep me safe.

Yeah, I never managed to keep that promise... However in my defense I was running from my P.E teacher who had suddenly transformed into huge mutant of a dog that was bounding after me, it's mouth frothing like I was dinner. I sprinted away from the field where I was supposed to be participating in P.E, the assistant teacher screaming for me to come back while all the other students murmured between themselves. Could they not see the blood-thirsty beast of a teacher hunting me down!?

I headed towards the cluster of buildings that made up the school. At least I'd have an advantage over it there. I'm small and can turn corners swiftly, It however could not. I reached the first building just in the nick of time as the hound was right behind me. I darted around the building not looking back though I knew my trick had worked as a ear-popping crash erupted behind me as the mutt smashed into the wall.

I knew that wouldn't hold it off so I kept running, luring it deeper into the labyrinth that is my school. I could feel myself running out of energy, life slowly draining from me. It felt like I'd been running for hours. As I turned another corner I nearly leaped out of the atmosphere., the mutt was standing only a few feet away growing, pure hatred in it's eyes. I gulped back my fear, maybe it wasn't as dumb as I first thought...

It barked at me and my ears nearly burst as it continued to echo for what seem like ages. I was being cornered into my death, too scared to think until suddenly i tripped backwards on something. I was on the floor, the dark beast looming above me. Beside me I saw a large stick -which must have been the cause of me tripping- and nearly cried. I grasped the stick and flung it into the beasts face, continuously beating it up and down. I heard the hound yelp in pain and I couldn't help feel a lump of guilt in my throat. I love animals and couldn't stand people abusing them and now I was. Tears trickled down my face as I dropped the stick and ran for it.

I ran for my life blocking out everything as I continued to cry. I didn't even notice when I passed my P.E class and Taylor. I just ran. Eventually I found myself in a secluded forest and collapsed on the ground my hands clenched and full of dying autumn leaves. My vision was blurred and turning slowly darker. I could hear familiar voices in the distance, running closer. And the the darkness closed in and I was engulfed by it.....
