When Worlds Collide

That guy

Three years ago, seven demigods set out on a quest that would determine the fate of the world. From mixed worlds they collided and joined forces four Greeks and three Romans. But then suddenly one day they went missing or worse died to the hands of their foe. Gaea the mother earth who is the very land we walk on has risen from her earthly grave with her giant sons by her side and has taken over. Ever since then every demigod has been on the run. As if to make things worse there is a constant battle between Romans and Greek both blaming each other for their follies. Neither is willing to join hands to fight the common foe.

This is where I come in I am both Roman and Greek. Apparently, gods can love a mortal so much that both of their aspects are drawn together.(If only they could do the same for their children) My father is Apollo god of the sun, prophecy, music, and healing. As if. If only he could have foreseen the events that led up to the destruction of the gods and western civilization as a whole. I can only imagine how mortals see the world. If I had to guess, it has been taken by terrorist or some other extremist group or maybe even blown up.

Well before I get to far ahead of myself my name is Aiden Grant and I'm seventeen years old (pretty old for a demigod right). Up until three months ago I was a part of the Roman legion and was a respected Centurion. My cohort abandoned me when they found out about my Greek heritage. Since then I have been traveling the use to be United States or what is left of it after Gaea. I am constantly scavenging for food, fighting monsters at every turn and then running from the ones that are too powerful. Nevertheless, it all changed when I met him.

I was sitting by a creek in rural Missouri cleaning my Imperial gold dagger which is magically enhanced so it can extend and become a sword if needed. It is quite the piece of work it has a nine inch blade on it with a hooked end on it, it is very useful hooking on monster flesh ripping it away to cause major damage. In sword from it’s a gladius with an edge so sharp just staring at it for too long could cut you. I call Solem which is Latin for sun (I know how original. At the time it seemed fitting brand new the thing was so shiny it was like staring into the sun and it still is. By the way I would advise not doing that) Lucky me I got into a fight with three hellhounds this morning. So I got to bust out Solem and make everyone’s day a little brighter. They really ruffed me up but thanks to my dad (I can count on my left hand the number of times I have said that) I have this special talent to heal myself without the use of medical supplies or equipment wonderful right now I can just suffer through this post apocalyptic waste land called North America. If only Pan could see. The wildlife and plants are starting to take back over it is quite beautiful.

That is when I heard it; it was a splash in the water about one hundred feet down stream. So naturally I grabbed my bow and arrows along with my trusty old Solem and go investigate. As I get there I realize that something is wrong. In the water is a dead body floating face down. (I know what you’re thinking run away right) Well curiosity got the best of me so I go and investigate. The boy in the water couldn't have been more than twelve years old. He looked a little on the more underfed side. But he was dressed up in full Roman armor (it looked three sizes too big for the kid so it should work perfect for me) it was complete with a shield and a gladius. My hopes got high it is not every day one comes across a free set of armor or for that matter a Roman legionnaire shield (yes I know he is a dead guy but hey in my defense my ex-Roman cohort took all of my armor when they kicked me to the curb). As I waded out into the water I notice a sword stuck in his back. It was a nice celestial bronze sword. Since I am both Roman and Greek I am not very picky about my choice of metal in my weapons. So as I am about to grab it and pull it out of the dead body it just vanishes. I am stunned and a little bit freaked out. ( well I probably should not have been freaked out considering I have a quiver that supplies me with a never ending supply of Arrows... thanks to Apollo that’s two times I have said that now.) Either way I still needed armor. When I got to the body I turned it over and I almost throw up. It was one of my ex-new recruits to my old cohort. His name was Travis he was a son of Neptune who showed great potential during probatio so I offered to take him in. I mean this kid had style give him a bottle of water and he was unstoppable. What was odd about the whole scene was he is a sun of Neptune who died in water. Once again, instead of taking the hint that I should run like the furies where behind me I pulled him ashore and started to strip him of his armor.

"What are you doing?" asked someone.

I turned around so fast that I probably should have snapped my neck. Standing there was a nineteen year old man. He was about six feet tall with a medium build. With black hair that was kind of shaggy. He had sea green eyes that had a crazed look in them that could have scared even the meanest Hellhound. He was wearing a Orange shirt that was a size to small and faded to the point where it look like it said " mp Hal - od". I knew he was Greek immediately. Therefore, without thinking I grabbed my Bow and an arrow from my quiver and shot.

It hit the man in the calf and he dropped like a stone and was out. Thinking it was a trick I approached him slowly with Solem drawn. Sure enough when I was five feet he popped up with incredible speed and he had a sword in hand. (I was confused as to where it had come from when I shot him he did not have a weapon. Oh well) we circled each other slowly. That is when my training kicked in. I got into a fighting stance with my knees bent and a low center of gravity so I would not be knocked down easily. That is when the man flicked his sword it was so fast and effortless that I just barely had time to block. Again he repeated the same move and once again I barely had time to react. If it had not been for his leg wound I probably would have been dead by now like the boy that was in the creek. Every strike he went for had deadly intent behind it. We spared for a couple more seconds then he turned things up a notch and started using a combo of moves. First, he would go for an overhand slice then a thrust followed with side hand aimed for my neck. But thankfully I was able to parry them all. My arms where becoming lead from blocking all of his body jarring blows that my dagger just flew out of my hand with his next strike because I could not hold it any longer.

That is when he lowered his guard, leaned in, and whispered, “Where is Annebeth?"

I was so confused about his question that my reply sounded a little between a grunt and a sneeze. (Do not ask how, even I do not know) I used the few seconds of cease-fire to take in my surrounding. There was a tree to the left and a little behind the man. I was unarmed so I thought to myself “what could I do to beat this person before he kills me.” So naturally I think I can punch the lights out of him. So naturally, I run at the tree jump and vault off it towards the person and deliver a crippling flying superman punch to the chin. There is a satisfying crunching sound as my fist connects with his jaw and he immediately crumples to the ground. There is no question he is knocked out. I sat there for a good five minutes trying to regain my breath and get my adrenaline under control. Then I walk over to where Solem had fallen and picked it up. The person starts to stir so I take the hilt of my dagger and hit him in the head again and he is out once more. (Gosh this guy does not go down easy.)

I did not have it in me to finish the job he was too good of a foe. So I tied him up and sat him up against a tree. For him being six feet tall he was surprisingly light he was maybe one-sixty. I wanted to question him for information about the Greek’s wear about so hopefully I could use that as leverage to get back into the Legion. So instead of letting him die from bleeding out. I broke the side of the arrow that had the feathers on it and then pulled the rest on threw his bloodied leg. Then I took some ambrosia and nectar (food and drink of the gods) and mixed it together and made a paste that I applied to his leg to help heal it faster (godly Neosporin). Within seconds the bleeding stopped. I wrapped his calf in some sterilized linen to keep it from getting infected.

He seemed pretty out of it and I was getting hungry so I figured I would go hunting. I made sure his bonds where secure and then I set off with my bow and arrow looking for game. The sun was starting to go down so I needed to hurry so I could build a fire before it got too late. Then I spotted a buck with a nice eight point rack on it. This thing was huge compared to most deer I had seen in the area. As much as I hated killing more food than I could eat. I was extremely hungry and didn’t want to waste the chance for a meal. So I chose an arrow with a nice hunting point to. I notched the arrow. I breathed in slowly and drew back the bow. Then I cleared my mind of every think until it was just the deer and I. I sighted up carefully. Then as I slowly breathed out I released. The arrow had a nice whistling sound as it flew through the air. As it hit its mark in the heart it made a sickening thunk and the deer jumped realizing it had been shot then it dropped dead on the spot.

After I gutted it I wrapped some rope around it and carried it back to camp. As I returned I saw the guy was still passed out (I really need to get his name) so I skinned the buck. Trust me it’s not a very easy process trying to separate skin from meat and fat. It’s like trying to squeeze a bar of wet soap. Just about impossible.

After it was skinned and cut up I salted the meat and cooked it over a fire. Man it smelled so good that I am sure it could have brought the gods up from Tartarus (which is where they are being kept by Gaea.) The strange guy I fought stirred from his slumber.

At first he seemed mystified as to what was going on and where he was. Then he saw me and tried to fight his bonds but to his own bad luck he was stuck like no other. I made sure he couldn’t move because I wouldn’t last another fight between us. He could barely move his arms and legs that is how tight his bonds where.

That is when I decided to ask him, "What’s your name?"

He glared at me and said, “That is none of your business. Where is Annebeth you Roman dog?"

That is when it hit me like a train wreck. The black shaggy hair, sea green eyes, the smell of the ocean. (Could it be…) Before my surprise showed I calmed myself and my features and replied, “your Percy Jackson are you not?"

He had a shocked look that appeared as fast as it disappeared and said, “so what if I am tell me where Annebeth is?"

I replied "look I don't know where Annebeth is or whoever that chicks name is I'm just a lone demigod traveling the roads looking for a safe haven." I meant what I said.

He smiled and replied, “we are all looking for a safe haven from this wretched war." That’s when his eyes narrowed on my forearm where my SPQR tattoo is burned into my arm. He looked furious and said, "You’re lying you’re with the Romans. If I had to guess you’re a scout like your friend in the creek that you so graciously dragged out and from the way you fight I would say your one of their Elite commandos."

I sort of smiled and replied, “Well if you had said that three months ago I would have said yes. But once they figured out I am part Greek they kicked me out because of my heritage. They discarded the fact that I have been with them my entire life and that I joined the legion when I was nine and served them faithfully up to my “dishonorable” discharge.

Percy still seemed a little on edge but he proceeded and said, "Prove it “So I told him everything. From how I was born and how exactly I was thrown out.

I finished by saying, “if that isn’t proof enough they even branded me with the word graecus." I lifted up my shirt and on the back of my right shoulder I showed him the burn which had already faded into a scar because of how fast I heal.

After I showed him the burn he replied very apologetically and sincerely," I am sorry man... If you want you can join me on my quest to find Annebeth but first I kind of need to be untied."

I know this might be insane but I trusted him and untied him.

"That’s much better." he exclaimed.

"Are you hungry I have plenty of food?" I asked

“You don’t know how hungry I am. By the way do have any blue food it is sort of a tradition I have?" he asked with a giant grin.
