The Guardian of Knowledge

02.

The colony held a feast in Alexus's honor for saving them. Everyone ate and danced and laughed enjoying themselves. The children played sworsmen and froliced around kicking a soccer ball and gossiping the tale of Alexus's victory.

At the center table, Alexus feasted on the roasted beef and baked chicken that were given to him. He laughed and drank as many of the citizens cheered and praised him. In the far forum off about a mile away, a woman gazed at him. She held a lovely face, inticing and beautiful. But her eyes held a mixture of wisdom and sadness. As the woman cloaked her face, she turned to leave.

Intrigued, Alexus rose with a kind smile. "Colonist!" He drew their attention. "Forgive my rudeness, but I must get going for I seek the help of a god."

With a wallow of laughter, a man appeared before him. "We understand, young hero." A cinderblocked man said. He held a deeply rustled beard a faded crew cut of hair and deep brown eyes. His arms were unusually thick and muscular and he was middled aged. "Go. The gods of Greece need your assistance. As one with your status, it's only good to help those who you praise and who praise you. We are grateful for your service."

Paying his do's, Alexus lefted. He traveled north from the colony within West Virgina in search of the cloaked woman. Naturally he met wondering merchants often resorting to helping them and saving them from crooks, bandits and low-life theives.

When he reached New York, a week had passed. By then he had snapped a few necks, killed a herd of katobelps and fought a hyperborean giant. Glancing across the empty plains, Alexus noticed the first station of the Greek Phlanax. Rustling forward, He marched onward to caught in a swirl of dark vapor.

Clutching the hilt of his sword, Alexus tensed. In a formation of an army, the vapor dispersed to reveal shades of the dead. The army was fully equipted with the old Greek standard combat armor. The held dull swords and helms of defeated and weak material.

"Nice, weaklings." Alexus smirked. Pulling out his sword, he slashed right through the soldiers before him. In an explosion of dust, the shades vanished. Turning his attention behind, Alexus gazed at more shades appeared.

"Durable eh?" Charging forward, he slashed through the army of recovering shades. As the dissolved to dust, he slashed and wacked every ounce of energy was put into his attacks. The more effort he put, the longer they would stay down. After a whirl of dancing, Alexus grew tired.

He never faced an enemy like this before. One that would never die. One that gained power through death. It never occured to him. Taking distance, he took his breath. Damn it! He cursed to himself. All that's happening is that they are becoming stronger. What in hades is happening?!

Glancing at the shades, Alexus closed his eyes. "Fine then. I didn't want to use this power, but if you leave me no choice, then so be it." Sheathing his sword, Alexus began to glow a bright yellow color. In a sudden burst of light, Alexus's skin became a bronze color and his body radiated with light. The shades instanly crept backward afraid of the harsh vapor he was emitting.

Alexus's eyes now bulbed in a bright blue coloring as he charged forward chopping the shades into nothingness. After the monsters dispursed, Alexus collapsed to the grounds painting and waigning. His breath was lost and his eyes held the expression of weary.

Rising to his feet, he noticed the Phlanax seemed distrought. Taking charge, he made his way toward the one place he would find the truth the Phlanax that held the Oracle of Delphi.
