Chapter 28

Cassi:
I woke up with light streaming through the slits in the blinds. I blinked and glanced around realizing I wasn't in my bed. I was in the infirmary in the Big House. How in the name of Hades did I end up here? I glanced down to see my waist wrapped and remembered I had taken a stinger the other day. I wondered how long I had been out. It couldn't have been too long. I took a deep breath and swung my legs over the side of the bed. A huge bolt of pain raced up through my side as I carefully sat up. I took a deep breath and swung myself to my feet. The pain wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Okay, that was a lie. It was as bad but being a demigod you had to power through the pain. Or at least, that was what I was telling myself.

I carefully made it down the stairs because I knew if anyone saw me they would stop me. I ducked behind a pillar as two kids came around the corner talking about some war council meeting that was starting in a few minutes. I had to get to that thing. I carefully snuck out of the Big House as I made my way to the sword arena. I was halfway there and I wrapped an arm around my waist. My wound was throbbing painfully but I had to make it to the meeting. I took a deep breath and stood there for half a minute.

"Come on Cassi just another like couple minutes and you'll be there." I muttered to myself. I started walking again and I looked into the arena to see that they had already started their meeting already. They were all seated around a table except for Chiron and the new guy Quintus. They were both standing while Clarisse and Annabeth talked about what was going on.

"Interesting, and you believe this young man, Luke, would dare use the Labyrinth as an invasion route?" Quintus asked as he polished his sword. I smirked. Oh, so they were already on the subject of Luke.

"Oh yeah. It's Luke. He would do anything to destroy this place and us." I commented. Everyone's heads jerked up. Blake stared at me in shock and so did Percy. I smiled and waved at them.

"You shouldn't be up." Blake said standing up.

"I agree with Cassi. He would bring his army through and we wouldn't stand a choice because he won't have to worry about the magical boundaries. He must have been planning this for months." She said.

"I wouldn't put it past him. He probably has." I muttered as I took my steps down towards them carefully one at a time. I could see Blake and Percy holding their breaths hoping I wouldn't fall. When I was safely at the bottom Blake came over to me and looked down at me with a disappointed look.

"I heard about the meeting. I couldn't miss it." I smiled as I winked at him. He shook his head but grabbed my arm. He looped it around his neck and I stared at him confused. He bent down and put an arm behind my knees before sweeping me off my feet. He sat me down in the chair next to him that was empty because that's where I usually sat.

"And you call me crazy." Percy said. I rolled my eyes.

"Like you wouldn't have done what I did." I said. He opened his mouth and I tilted my head to the side and narrowed my eyes at him and he shut his mouth. I smiled at him and leaned back into my chair smiling.

"He's been sending scouts into the maze. We know because...because we found one." Annabeth said. I looked at her with raised eyebrows. I hadn't been told that.

"Chris Rodriguez." Chiron said as I looked at him confused. That name sounded familiar and then I realized he had been in Ares cabin. Well that’s…interesting.

"Ah, the one in the...yes. I understand." Quintus said. I looked at them confused. When had they found Christ Rodriguez? The last time I had seen him was on that crazy mountain top with Luke. A shiver went down my back as I shifted in my chair slightly.

"The one in the what?" Percy asked.

"The point is; Luke has been looking for a way to navigate the maze. He's searching for Daedalus’ workshop." Clarisse snapped.

"The guy who created the maze." Percy said. I glanced over at him impressed.

"Yes. The greatest architect, the greatest inventor of all time. If the legends are true, his workshop is in the center of the labyrinth. He's the only one who knew how to navigate the maze perfectly. If Luke managed to find the workshop and convince Daedalus to help him, Luke wouldn't have to fumble around searching for paths, or risk losing his arm to the maze's traps. He could navigate anywhere he wanted, quickly and safely. First to Camp Half-Blood to wipe us out. Then....to Olympus." Annabeth said. Everyone went quiet except for Ms. O' Leary who was the camps new Hell-hound. She was chewing on something that squeaked and it was annoying the Hades out of me.

"Then really we have no choice then to go into the maze and do it to." I said.

"But wait isn't Daedalus dead though?" Beckendorf asked. I shrugged.

"I would hope so. He lived, what three thousand years ago? And even if he were alive, don't the old stories say he fled from the Labyrinth?" Quintus asked.

"We all thought the Greek gods didn't exist or were 'dead' up until we met them or at least learned we were their children, right?" I asked as I put the quotations up around the word dead. Everyone went silent as I smirked. One point for Cassandra Chrysler!

"Well, and no one knows. They are rumors.... well, there are many disturbing rumors about Daedalus, but one is that he disappeared back into the Labyrinth toward the end of his life. He might still be down there." Clarisse said.

"So I guess this means we have to go in and find the workshop and probably Daedalus, knowing our luck, and do it all before Luke has the chance." I said. Annabeth nodded and I sighed.

"And we have to make sure that Ariadne's string doesn't fall into the wrong hands if it still exists." Annabeth added as she nodded at me. A frown wiggled its way onto my face. I didn't want to go into the Labyrinth again.

"Wait a second. If we're worried about an attack, why not just blow up the entrance? Seal the tunnel?" Percy asked. It was a good idea but the entrance of the tunnel would move somewhere else in camp. The tunnels and openings of the Labyrinth moved.

"Great idea! I'll get the dynamite!" Grover said.

"It's not so easy, stupid. We tried that at the entrance we found in Phoenix. It didn't go well." Clarisse said.

"The Labyrinth is magical architecture, Percy. It would take a huge power to seal even one of its entrances. In Phoenix, Clarisse demolished the whole building with a wrecking ball, the maze entrance just shifted a few feet. The best we can do is prevent Luke from learning to navigate the Labyrinth." Annabeth said.

"We could fight. We know where the entrance is now. We can set up a defensive line and wait for them. If an army tries to come through, they'll find us waiting with our bows." Lee Fletcher said. I chuckled and shook my head.

"What?" Lee asked. I looked up at him.

"We wouldn't stand a chance." I said.

"How?" He demanded. I stood up and put my hands against the table's surface, leaning forward looking him straight in the eyes.

"You don't know the monster power he has behind him. A lot of old powerful monsters are following behind Luke because of Kronos. The boarders around here won't keep them out if they come through that tunnel. We'll be sitting ducks and we will all die trying to fight them." I said. He stared at me.

"And how do you know that?" He asked leaning backwards staring at me.

"Lee." Chiron said.

"You're forgetting I dated that sociopath for a while. He kept me on the Princess Andromeda where monster were running rampant. Old monsters I had never even heard of. Then there was Mt. Othrys. It's being rebuilt slowly piece by piece meaning Demigods every day are turning to their cause. They are bigger than us if they attack." I snapped. Once I figured no one was going to say something else I sat back down in my chair glaring at the table in front of me fighting off a sneer thinking about the past. Thinking about everything Luke had done to me wanted me to rip him apart.

"We have to get to Daedalus's workshop first. Find Ariadne's string and prevent Luke from using it." Annabeth concluded.

"But if nobody can navigate in there what chance do we have?" Blake asked.

"I've been studying architecture for years. I know Daedalus's Labyrinth better than anybody." She insisted. Blake didn't look satisfied.

"From reading about it." Percy said. She nodded.

"Well, yes." She said.

"That's not enough." Percy said. I glanced over at him with wide eyes. He was about to start an argument with Annabeth.

"It has to be!" Annabeth said.

"It isn't!" Percy insisted. I leaned back in my chair as I glanced between both of them as they went back and forth like everyone else around the table did.

"Are you going to help me or not?" Annabeth demanded. That's when Percy glanced around the table realizing the spectacle he was making of himself and Annabeth. Then Chiron cleared his throat breaking through the tension Annabeth and Percy had made.

"First things first. We need a quest. Someone must enter the Labyrinth, find the workshop of Daedalus and prevent Luke from using the maze to invade this camp." Chiron said.

"Annabeth should lead." I said. We heard murmurs of agreement from around.

"But Clarisse has done as much as I have. She should go to." Annabeth said as she looked over at Clarisse who was already shaking her head.

"I'm not going back in there." She said. I did a double take and she glared at me.

"Don't tell me you're scared. Clarisse, chicken?" Travis Stoll laughed. I saw Clarisse rise to her feet and I saw the same fear I had in my eyes after walking through that Labyrinth.

"You don't understand anything, punk. I'm never going in there again. Never." She snapped. Then she promptly stormed out of the arena. Hmmm I don't think I would ever see the day where Clarisse wouldn't take on an opportunity or stomp away.

"I didn't mean to-" Travis said.

"The poor girl has had a difficult year. Now, do we have an agreement that Annabeth should lead the quest?" Chiron said. Everyone nodded to the fact.

"Very well. My dear, it's your time to visit the Oracle. Assuming you return to us in one piece, we shall discuss what to do next." Chiron said. I sighed and everyone left the table except Percy and Blake who stood behind me as I went and turned sideways in the chair.

"You're stupid." Percy said. I shrugged.

"Eh, I've been called worse." I said. Blake scooped me up in his arms as he started to carry me back to the big house. Percy had to catch up with us once after talking to Juniper. She was Grover's nymph girlfriend...or was she a dryad. Once they both dropped me back off telling the Apollo kids to keep extra eyes on me until I was fully healed Percy left. Blake took up the chair that had been empty when I woke up.

"So I've only been out a day right?" I asked. He nodded.

"Actually only about 14 hours. The Apollo kids that had been working on you said you may be out for a while. He didn't know when you were waking up." He said. I nodded.

"Did Cody...?" I asked. He nodded.

"Yeah he helped. Wanted to make sure you were gonna be okay right after it happened. Jake calls you an idiot by the way for attempting to take on two." He chuckled. I smiled and just shook my head. It was about an hour later with Blake just trying to keep me from losing my mind in here when my favorite little brother walked through the door.

"My favorite little brother!" I smiled. He glanced at Blake.

"Did they give her pain killers that made her loopy?" He asked as he stood next to Blake. Blake laughed and shook his head.

"No. She's going crazy in here since we won't let her leave." Blake said. I rolled my eyes. That’s when Percy shifted uneasily on his feet. I glanced up at him amused. What was he about to say?

"When will she be able to go though?" Percy asked nervously. I glanced up at him confused.

"In a few days why?" Blake asked through narrowed eyes.

"Anyway to speed it up?" Percy muttered. I shrugged and called over Cody who was working his shift right now in the infirmary. He came over with a small square of ambrosia and a glass of water probably for me.

"Called me right in time. It's your daily ambrosia square." He teased. I rolled my eyes and smiled at him as he set the tray down in my lap. I broke the tiny square in half and popped a slice into my mouth.

"Hey Cody when should she be able to go?" Percy asked.

"Probably tonight after this ambrosia. We gave her nectar last night to fight off the poison which did better than expected." He said. Blake sighed and I glanced at Percy with raised eyebrows.

"Why?" I asked.

"Annabeth wants her to go with you guys. Doesn't she?" Blake murmured. He nodded.

"Yeah since Cassi's been in the maze before. It's going to be Tyson, Annabeth, Grover, Cassi, and me." Percy said.

"That's breaking rules." Blake muttered. He nodded.

"Yeah, but Annabeth thinks it's necessary." He muttered. I nodded.

"When do we leave?" I asked.

"Dawn." He said. I groaned. Of course the ungodly hour. He laughed at me and patted me on the shoulder before looking at Blake.

"And Chiron wants you and Clarisse to lead the prep for the battle." He said.

"Me?" Blake chocked out. He nodded and smiled.

"Well, he feels your just a good of fighter if you manage to keep Cassi protected all the time." Percy chuckled. Blake's cheeks went red and he scratched the back of his head embarrassed. His hair covered his green eyes and I chuckled. I went to pinch his cheeks as I cooed at him and he grabbed my hand lacing our fingers together.

"Alright sounds good and you hush." Blake said squeezing my hand. I just smiled at him.

"I'll come find you when I'm able to get out of here." I promised Percy. He nodded and then I looked at Blake.

"See you'll be too busy to miss me because you'll be prepping." I laughed. He just shook his head and leaned forward and pecked me on the lips. He moved so he was on the edge of my bed. When he pulled back he stared at me and I smiled up at him.

"Please be careful Cassi. I don't know what I would do if something happened to you." He said. I nodded.

"I will. I swear to the Gods." I smiled. He smiled down at me before pressing his lips to mine lightly. I chuckled and then smiled up at him when he pulled back and glanced down at me.

"You promise me that if something happens while I'm gone you'll stay safe to." I muttered. He nodded.

"I will." He said.

It was by dinner that I was able to actually walk around. I still was in a little pain from the stitches they put in my side to hold the wound together but the ambrosia that I had had earlier really helped. I met Percy at the table and he smiled at me as Blake gave me a good-bye kiss before heading to the Hermes table.

"So how's Blake taking you going into the Maze?" He asked.

"Fine. He's going to be busy with his own things. I think that's why he's less concerned." I said. He nodded and we started to eat.

"How are you feeling?" He asked.

"I'm probably going to be moving slower than usual cause of the stitches but I should be okay to fight." I said. He nodded.

"Stick close to me then." He said. I smiled at him and saluted him. He rolled his eyes and threw a French fry at me. I dodge to the side quickly and it landed with a thud to the floor. I rolled my eyes.

"Still can't throw food fast enough to hit me though." I said. He smiled at me and shrugged. Oh god that was going to be a challenge. I smiled at him and we ate the rest of our food before heading back to the cabin. I packed my stuff for the quest before getting changed for bed and going to bed.

I didn't think I would be woken up by anything but I was. It was the cabin shaking. I groaned and rolled over to see Percy standing at the fountain. The glow coming from it was really bright as I stood up.

"Stop! Stop it!" Percy said. That's when I heard the fountain crack and my eyes wet wide. A purple light danced across the walls and I watched as Percy uncapped Riptide and slashed the fountain in halve. I frowned. I liked that fountain a lot.

"Percy." I said. He glanced up at me as I got up out of bed and walked over to him.

"What was that?" I asked.

"...nothing go back to sleep. Out of all of us you need sleep the most." Percy said. I sighed and looked down at him and then at the fountain.

"Are you going to tell me what happened tomorrow?" I asked. He nodded.

"Yeah now listen to your little brother and go back to sleep." He said. I nodded and walked back to my bed. I glanced at him one more time before rolling over and going back to sleep.
