Making Decisions

In the End

Sunny had snuggled up at the feet of Fiona as soon as she started to snore. It was pretty early, just after lunch, and I was surprised she fell asleep so quickly. I got up and got Fiona's teddy bear. I has sewn a heart on the chest and her initials in the middle of it. It looked pretty bad, but she loved it and named it Heart. I gently put it next to her, and she instinctually grabbed it and held it close. She half buried her head in the pillow and her hair was flung all over the place and began to snore quietly.

I ushered for Sunny to come, but he gave me tilted head and curled up at Fiona's feet. even more. I just patted his head and left as quietly as I could; careful not to wake her up and managed to snatch up a guitar. Once outside, I settled on the cabin steps and began to strum. It wasn't long until my favorite song popped into my head and I caught myself playing it and singing along.

Feeling my way through the darkness
Guided by a beating heart
I can't tell where the journey will end
But I know where to start

They tell me I'm too young to understand
They say I'm caught up in a dream
Well life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes
Well that's fine by me

So wake me up when it's all over
When I'm wiser and I'm older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn't know I was lost

I tried carrying the weight of the world
But I only have two hands
Hope I get the chance to travel the world
But I don't have any plans

Wish that I could stay forever this young
Not afraid to close my eyes
Life's a game made for everyone
And love is the prize

So wake me up when it's all over
When I'm wiser and I'm older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn't know I was lost

"I must admit, you do have a wonderful gift," Olami said. I looked up and saw that she was cleaned up from the forges and standing about five feet away from me. Her hands were on her hips and her copper eyes were staring right at me. I set my guitar down and walked over to her and kissed her. We pulled back; her arms linked around my neck and my arms snaked around her waist.

"Thanks," I said. She smiled. We started dating a week ago and we haven't told anyone yet. We decided with the Lilly-Fiona-me fiasco that this would just look awkward and like a rebound. It was nothing like that.

I was sitting on the hill by Thalia's tree, that's what everyone called it, facing the night sky. I wasn't in the mood for a campfire, so I sat at the hill and watched the stars. I was wearing jeans, my camp shirt and my black zip up hoodie. The chill of the night cut through the air and settled around me. I liked the one that resembled a hunter the most and I could still see it in New York like I could in Delaware.

"That's Zoe Nightshade. She was the lieutenant of the Hunters before Thalia," a familiar voice said. I turned my head to see Olami was standing behind me, her gaze on the stars. "She died in battle with Artemis, Percy and Annabeth. She loved the stars so Artemis turned her into a constellation." She sat next to me. She was wearing her jeans and her camp shirt.

"Oh. Its, err she, has been my favorite constellation for a while," I said. Olami giggled.

"The irony is almost edible," she said. I was kind of blushing.

"Well, I'll just drop the subject," I managed. She just laughed a bit harder causing me to join in. She began to shiver so I gave her my hoodie and it was her turn to blush a little bit.

"Thank you," she said. "So, Lilly's gone?"

"Left this afternoon. She met me earlier and told me that she was sorry for Fiona and that she was going back to her dad's farm forever," I said.

I looked over to see that Olami had relief all over her face and I couldn't help but smile. Then I got an idea. "Truth or Dare?"

"Dare," she said victoriously. I usually get her good on truths. Exactly what I was counting on.

"Close you eyes," I said. She raised an eyebrow, but closed her eyes.

My plan was to gently shove her into the grass and wrestle playfully and have an advantage. Something got me though. May be it was the gentle breeze that slightly shuffled her hair and blew it around her face. May be it was the fact that I knew that behind her eyelids were two small copper pennies . May be it was her soft relaxed expression. May be it was a year of emotions building up. May be it was me finally listening to my heart instead of my head. I gently took her hands and stood us up. With our hands still connected, I leaned in and kissed her.

The kiss was simple and it seemed to say finally. She untangled her hands and linked them behind my neck. My arms wrapped against her waist and never broke the kiss. We pulled away after two minuets(I think) and she rested her head in the crook of my neck. I rested my chin on her head. I wasn't embarrassed, but I did feel guilty. I didn't want her to get the wrong idea of the kiss. Or me. I buried my head in her shoulders and tried to maintain my shaky breath.

"Don't take this the wrong way. You're not, you know, a 'rebound.' I meant-"

"It's okay," she said. "I understand. This can stay between us until things calm down."

I pulled my head back up and smiled. "I love you," rolled out.

"I love you too," she said.

We kissed again and watched the stars dance and shine until it was curfew.

"So, what brought you here?" I asked.

"Chiron sent me to check on you and Fiona and to bring you to the Big House. How is she?"

"Fell, hit her head and got a little cut, nothing serious. I fixed it up and she fell asleep like ten minuets ago."

"Aw, we shouldn't wake her up."

I was about to agree when we heard a cabin door open behind us. We broke apart and saw Fiona at the door way, smiling like someone gave her an endless supply of candy. She ran up to us and gave us a group hug.

"I knew you too would get together!" she beamed.

I just smiled at her and tucked some of her hair behind her ear. Her cut seemed better so I assumed she must of had some nectar or ambrosia. I lifted her up so she was settled on my shoulders and she wrapped her arms around my head. Olami smiled and wrapped her arm around my waist. Sunny bounded out and ran all around us. Once he settled down, all of us headed towards the Big House.
