Making Decisions

I don't think I'll tell Tyler that I heard what he said for a while. I didn't sleep all that well last night. I kept thinking about what Janis had said to me. The conversation is still in my head. We were talking to each other to at the campfire before I walked away.

"I don't know," I had told her. She was sitting next to me and she just smiled and rolled her eyes.
"Oh come on! I've been with the hunters for almost twenty years, and nothing happened to me," Janis said. To prove her point, she spread her arms out.

"You can be eight for twenty years?" I asked.

"Only if your a Hunter of Artemis. Which is why you should join! Look, Artemis came to us in our dreams last night and told us that we will be leaving in ten days. She'll come pick us up and you'll be more than welcomed to join us! Your strong and fast and you'll never have to worry about boys. Including certain older boys who yell at you for using a dagger," she said.

"How could you say that?! He was only trying to protect me," I protested. Everyone was talking and we were careful to keep our voices down.

"Is he protecting you or is he keeping you from living your life?"

"He-"

"Didn't you tell me that your own mother say that Tyler was better off without you. The only place that you'll be wanted," she said it so matter of factly that I couldn't take it.

I got up and snuck away from the crowd and went to my cabin. I saw Tyler was knocked out, so I quietly went to the bathroom and put on my night gown. I cried a little bit then Sunny came in. I patted his head and told him to go to bed, which he wasted no time doing. I walked over to Tyler and kissed his cheek goodinight. I didn't mean to wake him up or to cry, it just made me think about what Janis said. Tyler kept asking me what was wrong, but there was no way I was going to tell him. He'll just get protective again, like always.

Tyler and I were walking Sunny, still ignoring what had happened two nights ago. Neither of us wanted to really talk about it. We were having a good time, until we saw Lilly. Oh Hades, why? I did not want to see her at all, especially when Tyler and I were having fun. She stood so stiff when she noticed us, I thought her bones were goning to brake. She gave me a smile so fake she made Barbie seem real. Then she turned to Tyler and her smile turned into a frown.

"Lilly, your being-" he said.

"Did you make up your mind?" she asked, cutting off Tyler. I wanted to feed her to the hell hounds.

"No, I didn't. Don't you think-" he was cut off again.

"Eight days, Tyler," she said. Then she went back on her way. Tyler rolled his eyes and mumbled something about her making it harder.

"Tyler, whatever Lilly's talking about, you should think about how pazzesco the chick is," I said. Tyler gave me a big smile.

"Yeah, I guess I have a thing for pazzesco girls."

"Like Olami?" I teased. He blushed and all I could do was laugh at him. Everyone knew that Tyler and Olami were best friends, but it was obvious that they were ment to be together. When he started dating Lilly everyone left it alone, except for me and Olami.

"Well, um, er, um, uh Olami and I are good friends."

"Whatever, I'm going to take Sunny," I said.

"Er, sure. I'll catch you later," he said. I walked Sunny to the strawberry fields, and stopped dead in my tracks when I saw Lilly and her one of her sisters there. I crept by a tree so I could listen to them and so they couldn't see me.

"Lilly, I swear to the gods sometimes I want to wrap you in poison ivy and hang you by you legs in a tree!" the other girl said. She had blue eyes and short blonde hair with green and blue highlights.

"Tiffany, leave me alone. I know what I'm doing," Lilly retorted.

"Look, we tolerated you thinking that you were Roman, but this is dumb. The River of Lethe
water is dangerous and unperdictable. You could either forget Camp Half-Blood or your name. The risk isn't worth it," Tiffany said.

"Either way, I get to forget this dump and all of the people who are here." Lilly sounded so hurt and sad I felt bad for her.

"Oh, I see. This is about Tyler."

"It is not!"

"Your just upset that he didn't accept your offer to move to New Rome right off the back."

I had to cover my mouth to stop from screaming.

"Well, what is there to think about?"

"Camp, his friends, and most importantly-"

"Don't. You. Dare!"

"-Fiona. He can't just up and leave like that. To be honest, everyone is shocked that he's even thinking about moving. It's driving every one crazy trying to keep this bullshit from Fiona and you are not helping."

"I told him his twerp sister could come with us."

"You know she wouldn't."

"Not my damn problem now, is it?"

"Your being a bitch."

"Whatever."

"And since we're on the topic of Tyler, the Lethe water would wipe his memory of you."

"I have my ways of making it work. I found out about a mixture that would make us forget only what we want."

Sunny and I took off running, hearing Tiffany say something like "Now you've done it." We stopped when I bumped into someone. I looked up to see Chiron. He looked like he had just finsished archery practice. I don't know why, but I told him about what I heard Lilly and Tiffany said. Chiron just nodded and invited me to have a talk on the pourch of the Big House. "I think it's time someone explained this whole thing to you," he said.
