Chapter Two

I refused to talk to Aiden about what I had done, simply out of shock and fear. I promised him I would explain as soon as I could.

“Ugh.” I wrapped myself tighter in my soft blanket, staring at the fireplace. I had been sitting there for nearly two hours, thinking. Nothing like that had ever happened before, especially when Aiden was around.

I stretched out my legs, smiling as the heat tickled my toes. Aiden was like my guardian angel. He had been with me for as long as I could remember, though he tells me that it hasn’t been long at all. I can still remember that day when I was in the hospital, alone and scared, and he appeared out of thin air. I had whimpered and hid, but he was careful and kind to me.

“You saved my life that night.” I whispered to myself. He had, really. I was suffering from constant sleepwalking. It was getting to the point where I would wander out of my mortal house and into the streets.

One night, in the hospital, I was sleepwalking and I had unhooked all my cords and wandered into the restricted area. I think I grabbed a shot full of deadly drugs, used to put people under anesthesia. I was going to swallow the whole thing, dreaming I had something else in my grasp, but Aiden grabbed my hands before I could inflict any damage. I fought and fought, but he wouldn’t let go until I had woken up and collapsed on the floor in tears, realizing what he had done. He sat with me until I had calmed down, and promised to always watch me and be with me in case it happened again.

“Hey, how are you feeling?” Aiden glided over and hovered in front of me.

“Better.” I smiled. “Thanks.”

“Anything for my girl.”

“Excuse you?” I held up a hand. “YOUR girl?”

“Yep.” He touched my cheek with the back of his hand, then disappeared, leaving me shivering.

I heard banging on the door a few minutes later. “Meet at the campfire in thirty!”

“What happened NOW?” I sighed and hauled myself to my feet, trying to forget the girl in my bathroom. I had to get my necklace out of there before I went down to the camp’s circle. I trudged towards the bathroom, ready for anything that popped out at me.
