By Your Hand

Jem and I took about an hour to get back to my cabin, due to me slipping and falling every two feet. We had a great time, otherwise. He was cracking jokes every time I fell, and I responded with sarcasm, but neither of us could keep straight faces.

“You’re pretty...” Jem gasped.

“What?” I giggled, staring into his sharp grey eyes.

“...funny.”

“Nice save.” I shook my head, water splattering everywhere. We had finally gotten to my steps and he set me down on the lower one. The marble was colder then Hades frozen over and I started to shake from the chilled air and the water that had soaked through my clothes.

“Come on, let’s get you inside. Clearly we can’t fix your ankle out here.” Jem grabbed my hand and hauled me up, flinging my tanned arm over his shoulders. We must have looked interesting, considering we were both soaking wet and covered in mud.

“Thanks for your help.” I hobbled up the steps, clenching his shoulder hard. My ankle was really starting to hurt now.I let go of his arm, stretching a hand out towards my doorknob.

“Hold on a second, there.” Jem opened the door for me, shutting it with his foot. I stumbled forwards, nearly falling again, but my hand slammed into a wall, and I caught myself.

“Okay, today just hasn’t been my day.” I mumbled. Jem caught me around the waist again, guiding me to the couch. I slumped down into my comfortable cushions, rubbing my head with my hands.

“Where is your first aid stuff?” Jem asked, pushing his blonde hair back.

“Around the corner; the second door to your left.” I answered. Jem smiled and walked off, his footsteps echoing around the nearly empty cabin. Aside from the dark brown sofa I was lying on, there was a bean-bag, a table with some chairs in the corner, and a flatscreen TV. I was lucky enough to get that, I guess. I looked up into the vaulted ceiling, studying the rafters. My cabin had a log cabin appearance, with marble, stone, and dark wood everywhere.

“Here we go.” Jem came back with an armful of stuff, dumping it on the floor.

“Did you go shopping in my closet?” I snorted, evaluating all the first aid supplies he had on the floor.

“You never know. Your ankle could be hurt beyond repair. We might need to amputate.” Jem joked, his gray eyes curling up at the corners.

“No. Absolutely not. Son of Athena or no, you are banned from amputating anything. Ever.” I laughed.

“Aww. Too bad. I was looking forward to it.” Jem propped my swollen ankle up on the table, wrapping it with an ACE bandage and strapping a support brace over it.

“Owch!” I protested as he plopped it back down on the couch.

“Good,” He grinned, teeth flashing in the pale light, “as new.”

“Yeah. Okay. We’ll go with that.” I poked my ankle, wincing with pain.

“It’s almost morning. Do you suppose they’ll have breakfast out in the mess hall early?” Jem asked.

“I don’t know. I could go for some food, though.” My mouth watered. I really wanted some pancakes and berries.

“Wanna go check? It’s going to take a little longer to walk there anyway, considering your ankle and the mud.” Jem suggested, walking towards the door.

“Sure, just let me put on some normal clothes that aren’t mud-splattered.” I heaved myself off the couch, readying my ankle for the journey to my bedroom. As I walked in, I saw Aiden leaning against my dresser.

“Hey, Aid-“ I tried to greet him.

“What are you doing with my brother?” He cut me off.
