Esperanza


I stepped into the classroom cautiously. The principal cleared her throat. All of the students turned towards the door.

The teacher smiled. "This must be the new girl. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?"

"Well... My name is Esperanza, I love fire, dragons, and our pet Festus, I like greek myths, my aunts, and saying, 'That's not creepy at all'... Well, you probably get the point. Oh, and this is my first day in a public school."

"Thank you Esperanza." The teacher smiles. "You can sit in the empty seat between Sky and Alice."

A girl with long black pigtails smiles and says, "I'm Sky. Alice is the one over there with the red and black hair humming Bleeding Out. She's sort of obsessed with Imagine Dragons. Is Festus a bronze dragon? Like in Percy Jackson?"

Alice stops humming and says, "If I'm obsessed with Imagine Dragons then she's obsessed with Percy Jackson."

"I'm a fangirl, not obsessed!" Sky looks annoyed.

3 hours later...

"Do you read Percy Jackson too? 'Cause I noticed that you have a Leo and Calypso's Garage t-shirt. And why do you look so confused?"

"Honestly Sky, You're more annoying then my Dad! And he's annoying..." I push my bangs out of my face. "Oh and the bit about being confused... Aren't you supposed to be in the 4th grade?" I hope that she doesn't notice that I avoided the first question.

"I skipped a couple grades." Sky looks so annoyed that she's going to explode.

Suddenly Alice just randomly starts to sing. I saw her put the earbuds in when we left the school and got on the bus. as far as I could figure the only music she had was by Imagine Dragons. "Who knows how long I've been awake now,"

I join her. "The shadows on my wall don't sleep,"

Sky joins in. "They keep calling me... beckoning..."

So that's the story of how I made my two best friends.
