The Cursed Ones

Out of it

Jazz's POV

My head pounding, I slide my back to the wall, grabbing my pistol. I pulled back the chamber, cocking it, and pressing my body as close as it will get to the wall. Vahl appears next to me. "Ya. It's him. The guy Leo told me about."

"Wait. Leo? You know what, I'm not even gonna ask." I whispered, peeking around the corner and quickly whipping my head back. "That's more than a blade Vahl! He's carrying a a samurai sword! One cut and your dead. It's made of a special soul sucking material. If it even gives you a paper cut, your dead. So don't let it touch you." I said.

She nodded, and disappeared again. I don't know why she even took off the cloak. Oh, never mind. With a dagger in one hand, and a pistol in the other, I crouched down in the corner, waiting for the mystery man to walk in.

Every second was pure torture. I got curious looks, but no one questioned me. I saw the man walk in, his trench coat in buttoned revealing little bulging pockets inside.

He had a black cane, but I don't think he needed it. He seemed to walk with a slight limp, though I could tell it was fake. His blonde hair was almost blinding, and his blue eyes flashed with anger as he strode in.

I sheathed my dagger, and leaped at him, grabbing him around the neck and hugging his stomach with my feet. If he started galloping around like a horse, I would have laughed. But he didn't. He lurched forward, and leaned back like a bull, trying to get me off.

I felt a sense of irony, when people started yelling and screaming. "That girl's attacking a helpless old man!" "Call the police!" "What is going on!" "Bacon!" That last one didn't make sense. (Your welcome Echo.)

"Ugh. Get off me demigod!" Mystery man grunted.

"Not until you tell me where the antidote is!" I responded. He grabbed my hands and pulled me over his head. I landed on my back with a thud. I groaned.

"I'll tell you where it is. As a matter of fact, I'll show you, and keep it!" He said, still holding my hand in a wrist lock. I twisted my body around and tripped him with my legs, releasing me, and hurting him. Double win.

I whipped out my dagger and held it at his throat. "Now. You will take me to the cure, do it without trying to get away, and I won't kill you." He looked up angrily at me, and make a jump for the cane. I kicked it up with my foot and grabbed it, using it like a stick and whacking him in the head.

On another note, the mortals were freaking out. Vahl's been trying to calm them down, but it ain't working. Vahl ran over to me and grabbed the rope from my sack that was across the floor. She tossed it to me and I caught it with one hand, keeping my blade at his groat and my elbow on his chest.

In no longer than three minutes, he was trussed up like a pig. I threw him over my shoulder, and carried the limp form out the door and into the van. I tossed him in and locked it.

Once I was back inside, I picked up the staff and walked around with it, searching in vain for a clue to the antidote. Without luck, we left. I slept in he back of the van, and we threw weirdo in the middle seats. I was in a blissfully peaceful sleep when I heard an urgent rapping on the window.

I sat up bleary eyed, rubbing the sleep out of them, and peering out the window. I heard the knock again coming from the other side of the car. I turned and crawled around Vahl, looking out the window.

I didn't see anyone as I searched the parking lot. A head popped up; I screamed and fell back on Vahl, waking her up and making the person outside jump.

"Jazz? Jazz is that you?" I heard his voice. I didn't recognize it.

"Who's asking?" I asked.

"My names Ed. I was sent from the hospital. Your sister Lizzie is gone. She's not at the hospital. She didn't die, at least at the hospital. We don't know where she went." He said.

There was dead silence. "How do I know what your saying is true?" I asked again.

"Your sister told that if she went missing, to tell you to keep looking even if she didn't make it. That there was a secret to finding IT. I'm not sure what IT is; it sounds like she knew she'd disappear." He said.

I scramble to the door, jerked it open and ran out to Ed. "Your sure that's what she said?" I said, a little frantic.

"I'm positive. I'm also from Chiron. I stay at the hospital in case there's demigods. I'm a saytr." He said sheepishly.

"No. No no no. Lizzie, your so stupid!" I mumbled, pacing back and forth, puting my hand to my forehead. I kept pacing, mumbling to myself and probably creaking Ed out. I suddenly stopped. "Ryan." I whispered. "It's Ryan. He has Lizzie. Oh how dumb can I get?" I screamed. "Ryan took Lizzie! Oh! How am I gonna get her back?" I exclaimed.

"You don't." Vahl said, gingerly walking up toward me and placing a hand on my shoulder. "Like the dude said, Lizzie wants you to find the cure. She knows you'll come after her and risk it for her, and she doesn't want that. If she's not gonna make it, she wants to make sure your not still cursed. Put yourself in her shoes. Wouldn't you do the same?"

I sighed, wishing I could will my tears away. "Thank you Ed. For telling me." I said before running into the van to let loose. Tears streaming in let a low sob escape.

I was better in the morning, and apparently so was Mr. Mystery. He was struggling with his bonds as we left the van to go back into the Alamo. I washed my face in the bathroom and grabbed some breakfast at the Chick-Fil-A across the street.

I though back on mine and Lizzie's life before Camp as I bit into the breakfast taco. Everyday was filled with running, and hiding after or during school. Spending our nights with strangers or in the woods.

I remember one time when I was very little a woman's face leaning over me and tickling me, making me laugh. She had gray eyes and had a regal look. Then another lady walked up, and this one was much prettier than the first. Her hair was curly and red and her eyes were a swirling mixture of a rainbow.

She said something to the first lady, and started tickling my feet. They ladies started arguing, but a man with a blueish aura walked up and they both stormed off. The funny thing is, when I saw his face, I didn't actually see it. It was all blurry, but I remember his voice. It was deep and flowed like butter. I may not have understood what he was saying, but I remembered his voice.

I finished my taco and threw away my trash and grabbed another taco for Vahl, and headed out. I ran across the street, thinking of Lizzie, and made it to the parking lot. I tossed Vahl her taco, and switched spots with her.

Mystery man still wouldn't talk, so we gagged him so he couldn't, even if he wanted too. I crossed my arms and leaned back on the side of the van, starring at the prisoner/mystery man. I wasn't quite sure what to call him.

I felt like an idiot. I scrambled into the van, and started rummaging through his pockets. I pulled out his wallet in triumph. I flipped it open and gasped. I pulled out his drivers license, and stared at the photo intently.

I looked from the photo, to him several times, my anger building up. Vahl peeked in and said, "Hey it's open. You wanna go and look... You okay?" She asked, climbing in and looking over my shoulder. "No way. It can't be him. That's, that's not possible. We really didn't catch him did we?" She stuttered nervously.

The man gave her a murderous look, his eyebrows scrunching together and his lips thin and white. "Ya. It's him. We've caught.." I was cut off by a scream from behind me.

I turned around to see a woman white with terror, and looking up. I jumped out of the van and looked up. I saw a pinkish thing with leathery bat-like wings. I cursed underneath my breath. "You go find the cure. I'll take care of the fury!" Vahl yelled, shooting an arrow at it.

Knowing that time was limited, I rushed inside, dragging the fainting lady with me. I left her laying by the giant metal doors, and rushed inside, running for the room of antique bottles and furniture.

I leaped over display cases, and bumped a few people, but I didn't care. All I could thin about was finding that bottle. The blue one, with gold engravings, and the silver cork.

Feeling a twinge of guilt, I kicked the glass covering the bottle. That not doing anything, I pulled out my pistol, and shot the glass, putting holes in it. I kicked it again, ignoring the shards of glass cutting my ankle and leg.

I grabbed the bottle I delight, only to hear a wail of sirens pierce the air. With a glance, I started running for the door. There were three guards, all huge and fat and bulky, like Dudley from Harry Potter. I, very carefully, cocked my gun, and shot at their necks.

Don't freak. The were tranquilizer bullets. They fell to the ground in a fat heap. I leaped over them, not slowing my pace. I ran across the parking lot, giving the pile of dust a sideways glance, as I rolled I to the van.

"Go Vahl! Now!" I yelled, hugging the bottle to my chest tightly, and breathing heavily. I leaned back against the side of the van and closed my eyes. I breathed deeply, my adrenaline rush gone, leaving me extremely tired.

I felt a hand around my neck and my eyes 'popped' open. I looked into the face of Matt Bueler, my worst enemy, and outcast from Camp Half-Blood. He killed another camper for reasons unknown to anyone by him.

I pushed his arm to the side, but his grip was so strong, he pulled me down with him. I reached out and kicked him in the gut, loosening his grip. I pushed upward on his wrist, and put him in a wrist lock.

"Jazz? You okay?" said Vahl from the front.

"Just trying not to get killed. Keep your eyes on the road!" I raid as she turned around to look at me.

I punched him in the face, as he flipped his body around and swiped my knees. I slammed my head into the hard ground. My ears ringing and my vision blurred, I sat up and lunged at the blur of Matt. I heard his head crunch to the floor. His body went limp under mine, and I punched him in to nose for good measure.

"Vahl, he's out, and I'm about to be. Keep driving, I'll be awake soon." I said, my eyelids drooping already.

"Wait, what? Jazz?" She said, but I was already asleep on top of Matt, dreaming about........

Lizzie's POV

I thought I was dead. I at least felt like it. I would have been certain, had my arm not hurt as bad as it did. My could feel it throbbing. If you've never felt throbbing while your in pain, you've never been hurt bad.

I couldn't move. I couldn't control any part of my body. I could hear, and I could feel, but I couldn't move. I heard loud voices, and a strange whirring sound. Like a mini remote controlled helicopter.

"Matt has served us well, but this has gone too far. He was caught!" an angry voice came from my left.

"I wanted him to get caught. And by whom? None other than her infamous twin and her side kick, Vahl. It's all a part of the plan Sevil. Just be patient." That was Ryan from my right.

"You know, it's kinda creepy watching her. Ya know? She's just laying there like a dead rag doll." said Sevil.

"They say sometimes you can hear, even when it seems they're asleep." said Ryan.

"Is she awake? Or asleep." asked Sevil.

"Shall we test it?" asked Ryan, and I heard foot steps and clinking metal. Here we go, I thought. Another test. Just what I need. More torture.

He poked a needle in my already throbbing arm. My body gave a sudden jolt from the pain. My eyes stayed sealed shut though; they refused to open. I could tell he was getting frustrated. I felt another jolt, coming from the needle.

I refused to move, other than what he was doing, which I had no clue as to what that was. I felt another needle puncture my skin, sending a double jolt. He stuck in another, sending a triple jolt through my body. I tried to keep my eyes shut.

"Well, I guess she's in some sort of coma. There's no way she could have went through that, and not done anything." Sevil said. I could imagine the rage on Ryan's face, even though I couldn't see it. He stormed out the door, Sevil following his footsteps and closed the door with a slam.

I opened my eyes surprisingly, and I was back in the white room, except a metal contraption was hovering above me, with a small tube connected to my arm. I struggled with the cuffs.

Taking a deep breath, I slowly inched my right hand out. With a soft gasp, my arm came out. I fumbled with my left arm, but got it out. I ripped, well not ripped but yanked the needle out of my arm, and undid my ankles.

Okay, confession time. I had no clue what I was going to do. Absolutely no idea how to escape. I was winging it. All I could focus on was getting out of the room. I grabbed my clothes and quickly changed out of the white hospital like town I had on.

I sling my sack over my shoulder, and slowly opened the door. I peeked around the corner, saw the five guards, and quickly shut the door again. I locked it from the inside, and do contemplated how to get out.

I'll be truthful. I had no idea how.
