Left 4 Dead: the Cole Protocol
Running
I stopped just before I ran off the cliff. It was a fifty foot drop at least, and more of those... animals were showing up every second. I would have been dead if it wasn't for her sacrifice, and I needed to make sure it wasn't in vein.
I was pushed from my thoughts as a man, at least eighty years old, grabbed me by my collar. He pulled me in for a bite, but I had riptide at my side. One slice and half of his body was gone. I pushed another back, ready to fight until the last second. There were at least twenty of them now, and I couldn't hold out much longer. I sliced at another, its head falling clean off of its body.
It was like they were appearing out of no where.
A scream caught me off guard. It sounded like Annabeth. It was distant, but it was still close enough to reach. I looked back down at the cliff, and prepared for the drop.
"I'm coming!" I yelled to the empty forest. Before I could jump, another one grabbed my leg. I looked down, and it was about to sink its teeth into my calf.
I decided to jump anyway, hoping it would fall off during the fall.
I breathed one last time, and my feet left the ground. I was sailing in the air for a few seconds, but gravity got a hold of me.
And I went down, down, down...
I landed a lot harder than I though I would. I hit the ground at a slope, and a branch snagged my shirt. It snapped easily, but as it swung back, it lashed across my left eye. Pain seared from my face, and I held onto it. I pulled back one hand.
Blood. Now they could smell me from a mile away.
Something fell from the sky.
It was another another one. It fell on top of me, and I slid further down the hill. I started to roll uncontrollably, hitting a ton of branches on the way.
I rested at the foot of the hill. All of the sudden, pain emerged from my side, like I was impaled with a sword.
I looked down, and I realized why that was. I landed on top of a broken stump. One of the limbs had stuck itself into my right side, and I was unable to move.
Once again, in no time, there were twenty more of them. I was unable to fight them all off. They just kept coming.
I dropped my sword, unable to muster any more strength.
I felt like I let her down. Like I let Camp Half Blood down.
I lay there, unable to move, as they swarmed around me. Soon, the sunlight was blocked from view, and all I saw was darkness.
Darkness.
Omgs, an update is needed.
