Audentis Fortuna Iuvat

Resent

I followed Octavian up the now-familiar slope to temple hill and not a sound passed between us until we finally reached the Alter of Zeus.

"Here it is." He said under his breath, so softly I almost missed it.

"Here what is?" I asked.

"It." He replied helpfully and disappeared behind the large marble sacrificial alter only to return with a single ashy scroll in his hands.

"What is that?"

"A prophecy." He breathed, spreading out the crackling paper on the cold marble. "One of the lost Sybilline Articles."

"The what now?"

"Honestly, do you listen to anything I tell you?" He moaned and when I shook my head he impatiently explained that the Sybilline Articles were books of prophecy lost during the fall of Rome.

"So that's one of them?" I asked and he nodded. "But didn't you just say they were lost?"

"Lost," he frowned, "Or taken, taken and hidden by the Greeks."

Several insulting things came to mind that I considered saying but I settled for a simple; "You're crazy!"

He gave me a wild-eyed look of a feral beast. "Why don't you read it then?" He invited.

I edged my way to the foot of the alter as the slanting latin letters slotted into my hardwired brain and I began to read aloud.

"The fall of Rome
Shall bring an end
The defeat of the legions
By those called friend
Rotting in the earth
Truth shall be buried
Yet truth be born away
Troops of Rome un-readied

Milleniums tick
'Til sparks shall catch
And truth shall burn
Lit like a match

Only one remains
To be read and taught
Before by the wind
It shall be caught
Heed my words
And read letters true
For peace or war
Be left to you
Seek vengeance upon foes
And blood will rain
Or fly dove to wind

And vanquish pain
."

I lifted my hand off the rough paprus and frowned again, it was obviously a prophecy, but what did it mean?

A sudden wind tore through the temple and the scroll was ripped from Octavian's hands.

"'By the wind, it shall be caught'." He quoted the scroll with a sigh.

My eyes widened and curiosity sparked my brain. "So it's real? Where did you find it?"

He gave me a sly grin that looked demonic in the dull light. "Some burnt ruins I found in the hills." He told me. "Weird, huh?"

I felt the blood drop from my face and I stared at him in shock before sprinting back to camp with tears carving tracks down my cheeks.

I wasn't meant to die in that fire.

Neither was my dad.

It was all just about the scroll.

But what was it doing in our little shack?

And who had tried to burn it?

Who had killed my father?

So many questions.

Notes

Here is a new chapter for you beautiful people! Please leave me a comment to tell me what you think of it! :)

Unfortunately unlike most of you I don't get my summer holidays in June, I get them in December and January when it's well... summer here. So I'm still going to updating at the same rate, maybe a little less because of dance exams but I'll still try my best!

I'll be able to update Friday and probably sometime in the weekend since I've got a long weekend (Queen's Birthday Weekend!).

I'm happy now! My plot has finally started moving! :D

And who knows... with those good grades you may become a writer with books published somewhere else other than this site! Remember the name Phoebe!!!!

@Phoebe

I know.... but I'm still sad!!!

@ThatRandomPJOFangirl
I'm so sorry but it was time to wrap it up! I had to finish writing on this site by the time my school starts (on this Thursday) so I can work on getting the grades I desire. And mostly it was just time for this to end, I loved writing it but I had to stick to a timeline for some accuracy and that timeline just ran out quicker than I'd like. I love you guys and thank you for loving this story as much as I do!
