Audentis Fortuna Iuvat

Defy

I was thankful to wake up outside the hospital and back in the camp infirmary, the only equipment strapped to my elbow a small drip feeding my veins with nutrients I'd been unable to eat in my unconscious state.

I pulled it out and looked around, blinking sleep from my eyes. The white sheets separating my bed from others billowed in a draft that ran through the room, telling me somewhere that a door was open. Light bathed my bed from a window open wide above my head and someone was sitting in a chair beside me.

Jason.

I shot bolt upright where I lay and stared at him in shock. His head was bandaged tightly and he was looking at me with the same shock. Though his eyes held another thing too. Fear.

"Jason?" I asked and my heart began to drum the Jaws soundtrack in my ribcage as I remembered what I had done. "You need to get out of here."

"Kerri it's okay, you've been cleared from the infirmary when you're ready to go. You'll still be too weak to join us tomorrow but you'll be able to train-" He tried to place a comforting hand on my arm but I jerked away as if his touch had given me an electric shock - which it did.

"Jason you need to get out of here. I can't hurt you again." I told him, stumbling out of the bed to put more distance between us.

"Kerri, I said you've been cleared." He told me, walking around the bed while I continued to back away. "You're okay now and it's not going to happen again."

I shook my head vigorously. "You don't know that."

Jason sighed. "Kerri the doctors do. And call me crazy but I trust them. They've never been wrong before."

"There's a first time for everything." I muttered bitterly.

He sighed. "I'll leave you to it then but you might want to leave here soon. There are lots of people expecting to see you before we all leave tomorrow."

"Tomorrow." I repeated with a confused frown. "What's tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow is Friday." Jason said solemnly. "The day we march on the Titans." And he left without another word.

I should have left to greet my friends and assure them that I was okay before they left. But I should have done many things that day that I didn't. I also shouldn't have done many things that I did.

Instead I hurriedly changed from my hospital gown and left in a SPQR T-shirt and jeans that I had found beside my bed and rushed to my cabin, avoiding the main streets. I sprinted inside and barely stopped moving, stuffing my clothes and armour into a bag along with battle provisions I had hoped I would never need.

I wasn't staying behind, not this time.

And who knows... with those good grades you may become a writer with books published somewhere else other than this site! Remember the name Phoebe!!!!

@Phoebe

I know.... but I'm still sad!!!

@ThatRandomPJOFangirl
I'm so sorry but it was time to wrap it up! I had to finish writing on this site by the time my school starts (on this Thursday) so I can work on getting the grades I desire. And mostly it was just time for this to end, I loved writing it but I had to stick to a timeline for some accuracy and that timeline just ran out quicker than I'd like. I love you guys and thank you for loving this story as much as I do!
