Audentis Fortuna Iuvat

Meet

I awoke to the chatter of voices around me and the blinding glare of morning light streaming through the open curtains. With a groan I pulled myself into a sitting position to observe the scene around me.

There were about five girls already dressed and busying about the cabin, while me and another couple of girls still lay in bed.

"She's awake!" One of the girls said, she had a head of soft brown curls and blue eyes that sparkled in the dawn light.

The other girls turned their gazes to me and I felt a little awkward just staring back at them from the bunk where I lay.

" Er... Hi?" I said awkwardly, unsure how to act around them.

"Guys, don't stare. You're making her uncomfortable. " The blue-eyed girl said.

I shot her a thankful smile as the other girls went back to getting ready for the day.

"I'm Giselle," She told me. "But you can call me Elle."

I shook the hand she offered to me. "Kerri." I told her.

She grinned. "Well, Kerri, you've got ten minutes to get ready." She tossed me a bundle of clothes.

Ten minutes later I was sitting at breakfast with a few girls from my barracks, Octavian was nowhere in sight. A wind spirit delivered me a steaming bowl of porridge that I immersed myself in, thinking about how weird my new life was.

I glanced over at Giselle, who was munching on some toast. She introduced herself as a sixteen-year-old from Canada, a daughter of Pax, the goddess of peace. She suited the peaceful persona well, seeming to emnate calm and tranquility.

But then there was Cindy, a fourteen-year-old daughter of Flora, the goddess of flowers. She had straight brown hair and a dusting of freckles. I didn't know anything about her but she seemed so sweet and quiet, so.... flower like.

And there was Swan, all I knew about her was that she was a daughter of Sancus, god of promises. Her dark hair and obsidian eyes gave her a forboding air, and when she spoke it was with the hurt of a thousand broken oaths.

All these girls seemed to radiate their parents' power, they seemed to fit so well with what they were meant to. But I could in no way be called warlike, or strong, or dutiful. I couldn't fit the persona I knew I was meant to fit. And I hated it.

"Well, well." A dry voice pulled me from my depressing thoughts. "Look who's made some friends."

I turned to glare at Octavian. "You're late." I told him.

"Are you sure you aren't just early?" He asked, sitting down beside me.

"Jerk." I muttered.

He just grinned and began to eat.

Notes

It's not a very meaty chapter but I'll get down to the nitty gritty soon!

I'm sorry if it doesn't make much sense but I'm in bed with a fever so I'm not exactly at my most comprehensive!

Leave me a comment with some ideas or helpful feedback!

Have a great Easter and keep being awesome!

I'm so sorry but it was time to wrap it up! I had to finish writing on this site by the time my school starts (on this Thursday) so I can work on getting the grades I desire. And mostly it was just time for this to end, I loved writing it but I had to stick to a timeline for some accuracy and that timeline just ran out quicker than I'd like. I love you guys and thank you for loving this story as much as I do!
