Percabeth One-shots

I turned my back. I looked away. I was foolish.

Gaea had been finished off. There was only a few monsters left and we nearly had all of the remaining monsters left. Hazel was on Arion’s back and was slicing at the last earthborn. Jason and Leo were working on finishing off a cyclopes. Piper was charm speaking an empousa into smashing her head in while she was looking for an opening to jab at. Frank was in bear form just finishing off a telekhine off. Annabeth. She was holding her own on against a harpy. I would of ran to her side if I wasn’t held up with a small hellhound. Hazel finished the earthborn. Jason and Leo took down the cyclopes. Frank turned back into his human form. One last thrust and the hellhound was no more.

Then the scream came. Her scream. Annabeth.

No...No...No...

The harpy had its claw wedged deeply into Annabeth’s left side. With a final stab of her dagger, Annabeth turned the harpy into a rain shower of gold dust. She was on the ground holding her side, a pool of blood already there and growing. I ran over to her and examined the wound. Three six inch long openings ran from Annabeth’s upper and curved to her stomach. She was holding back tears and shaking with effort to not fall over right. I used one arm to hold her to me and the other arm to help apply pressure to the wound. I knew they were deep by the way she winced with the extra pressure. She was mumbling about pain and wanting it to end.

“Shh, shh, shh. Shhhhh. Annabeth, calm down,” I begged.

“Percy?” she asked.

“Yeah, Wise girl. I’m right here. I always was. I always am. I always will be.”

“Percy...t-th-the pain.”

“Shh. It’ll be okay,” I said, hoping my voice wasn’t shaking. The others had come over and were watching in shock. Jason was the first to come out of it.

“We need to get some first aid,” he noted.

“The ship is too far out for her to walk,” Leo said. “Hazel, can you and Arion go get me back to the ship? You can get the first aid and I’ll bring the ship over here.”

“Of course. Hang in there Annabeth.” Hazel said. She and Leo mounted Arion and zipped off.

Frank, Piper, and Jason had settled all around us. My hand was now soaked with Annabeth’s blood. I didn’t care. I let my Wise Girl get injured like this. I know I won’t be able to stop her from getting hurt all of the time. We’re demigods, heroes; we’re going to get hurt. I can’t stop that. But whenever Annabeth got hurt, I felt guilty. She saved my life and I can’t even return the favor of keeping a harpy’s claws out of her side. I held her tighter trying to make sure I didn’t hurt her but kept enough pressure so she wouldn’t suffer from too much blood loss.

“Percy, don’t you...you dare say it,” Annabeth said.

“Huh?”

“Don’t you dare apologize for,” she went into a slight coughing fit, “for this.”

I chuckled bitterly. “Why do you always read my mind?”

“Not much to read Seaweed Brain,” she laughed slightly. I buried my head into her shoulder.

“Why? Why can’t I just keep you safe?”

She used her free hand to stroke my arm. “You do. In ways you ju-just don’t see. I feel safe whenever I’m with you.”

I just held on to her tighter and lifted my head to see her better. Even in her weakest moments she managed to make me feel better. Her honey gold princess curls were in a ponytail and her tanned skin was paling. I wanted to hug her even tighter, but I couldn’t without hurting her. I was so absorbed into Annabeth, I didn’t realize Hazel had already came back until Jason was ushering for me to move my hand. I lifted her shirt just enough for him to get to the wounds. He started off by dabbing the wound and she winced so badly I had to use both arms to help her stay still.

We poured a little bit of nectar on one claw mark and Annabeth started to fight back tears. I kissed her cheek and rubbed her arms trying to distract the pain. By the time Jason and I managed to wrap the wounds, she was crying and wincing badly and the Argo II was parked ten feet away, unable to land. We didn’t want to risk the idea that Gaea wasn’t fully asleep or able to use the ship’s magic to wake up.

“Can you stand?” Frank asked Annabeth. Her only response was a sob in my chest.

“I’ll take that as no,” Piper said. I stood up and picked Annabeth up bridal style, her right side to my chest. She linked her arms around my neck and sobbed in the crook of my neck.

No one said anything until reached the ship. Jason offered to use the winds to lift us up and I said sure. Once everyone was on board, I took Annabeth to her room and settled her down gently. I took a seat next to her. She started to smile and laugh very softly. Great, I thought, she’s gone hysterical.

“What’s so funny?” I asked.

“We won. Gaea...the giants...they’re gone. We won.” Her smile grew. “So stop looking so glum.”

She was right. We did win. Gaea was asleep again, the giants were gone and we could head back home now. Everyone was alive and well. I smiled at her. She looked ragged, rough and tired, but as beautiful as ever. I leaned down and kissed her. A kiss similar to the one we shared at the bottom of the canoe lake. A kiss similar to the one we shared in New Rome. It was full of passion and love. I pulled away so our lips were just barely apart.

“I love you.” They rose from my heart, where I kept them, and fell out of my mouth.

“I love you,” she said.

I kissed her again and laid down and put one arm around her shoulder and the other one over her stomach. She linked her arms around my neck. We fell asleep, murmuring those three magic words to each other once more.
