Daughter of Tartarus
Ascent
There it was. Just a little further to go. I was so close to the elevator I could taste it. The stench of sulfur invaded my nose, and me feet were pierced by small, black glass chips. My clothes barely hung on my back- just a few tattered pieces of of cloth that hung loosely off of my body. My skin was burnt and dark, while my stomach burned felt the same way.
I pushed past something, but it was too dark to tell what. I just kept heading for the elevator. I could feel the monster following me, even though it didn't make a sound. It was far, far above me, but it was closing in on me-fast.
I darted into the light, able to finally see. The walls were lined with monsters of all shapes and sizes, but non of them came near me. They knew who I was. They knew who my father was.
But one of them didn't care who my father was. And it was ready to kill me.
The crimson air started to fade, and I entered the elevator just before the monster swooped in and tried to take me. The monster was too large to fit into the elevator, so I was safe momentarily. But not for long.
I quickly reached around the corner of the elevator and pushed the tape onto it. The tape made the button sit in the "up" position. I slipped my hand through the door before it closed, and the elevator music started to play. Because I was pretty much part monster, the elevator didn't reject me. I ascended slowly, and in twelve minutes, I would be free. Free from my father.
The door made a "Bing" and opened. I darted out of it before anyone would even know I was inside. I turned around to see the elevator doors close behind me.
I pushed through the dirt and debris. The sunlight soon shone through it, and I could breath fresh air. There was nothing ready to kill me, and there was nothing that would want to.
I finally made my way to the Overworld. I was out of Tartarus.
Shouts filled the air, and my vision started to blur. My hearing was getting fuzzy, and my eyes started to get sleepy. Someone stood over me. I could only see the outline of his face, but none of his features.
"Are you okay? You look horrible." I heard him say.
I started to cough up blood, and he picked me up. "Jeez! I need to get you to camp Half Blood! Now!"
My vision faded, and I was in darkness once again.
