"Just stop! Sky! Stop!" Vincent yells, through the ear popping sound of the rain. He tried to push on the brake but I slapped his hand away.

"If I do, we're all dead! Haven't you noticed the 18-wheeler behind us? He's been there for twenty miles! Idiot." I yell backed.

"Would you two stop fighting and freakin drive? Both hands on the wheel Sky, and Vin! SHUT UP!!!!" Frost yelled from the back seat where Alicia was turning green. Vincent crosses his arms and leans back, pouting. I grip the steering wheel tightly, my knuckles turning white.

I heard a moan, and a gross squishy noise. Then comes the odor, making me want to vomit. "Oh great." I mumble. "Vin! Give Frost the ambrosia. Alicia needs it." I tried to yell through the constant noise of the rain.

It sounded like a hail storm, and the 18-wheeler was getting on my nerves. I heard a loud horn blast form behind us and I swerved to the right, cutting through the trees. The road was bumpy, and we were tossed around like rag dolls.

"S-s-k-k-y-y!!! S-s-t-t-o-p!!!" Frost yelled. Well, stuttered. I slammed on the brakes, making us fly forward. My seat belt somehow unbuckled and I flew at the windshield, head first. I slammed my head, and stars dotted my vision.

I groaned and tried to shake my head, but ended up hitting it again, and blacking out.

I felt something cold on my face and I woke with a start. "Aww! What was that for?!" I said quite loudly as I realized Frost has dumped a bucket of water on me.

"You've been unconscious for ten minutes. What was I supposed to do? We already tried ambrosia." She said, setting the bucket down on the car floor.

"Oh I don't know, maybe something that doesn't involve me getting wet!" I said sitting up, realizing for the first time it wasn't raining.

"It's stopped raining?" I asked.

"Ya. Right after we stopped, and by the way you ran into a tree." She said.

"WHAT?!" I shouted, and scrambled up, flinging open the door to see the damage. Vin was already there, prying off the demolished bumper. I ran up to help him, grabbed the side and pulled. It snapped off, I tripped backwards, and ended up looking at the stars.

Vincent help out his hand with a smirk. I rolled my eyes as he helped me up. "I'm quite capable of helping myself, thank you very much." I said, brushing the leaves off my back and butt.

"Uh huh." He said, a smile playing on his lips.

I pulled some leaves out of my hair. "Your really annoying." I said, stepping on something sharp. I looked down. Shards of broken plastic and glass were scattered everywhere. I picked up large piece, my mind flashing back to a memory.

I was about seven and my dad had taken me to the academy that day. We were in the car on our way to headquarters, when my dad suddenly swerved to the left and slammed on the brakes. "Get down and don't get up till I say." He said through gritted teeth, shoving me down.

I hear gun shots, and yells of anger. I was scared, but I knew what to do. I dropped to the car floor, pressing my body as far as it would go. I grabbed my backpack and very carefully searched for the gun my dad had me carry.

I pulled it out and loaded it as the window above me shattered, and a bullet whizzed by. I slammed the bullets in and cocked it, bracing myself for the worst. I heard feet shuffling and more shots. I took deep breaths. I'd been trained for this. I may have been seven, but I was considered a lethal weapon.

The door in from of me opened and I got up and aimed the gun at his face. "Hey look! It's a little girl with a gun!" He said with a cruel laugh. He was bald, heavyset, tanned and had a mottled nose. His eyes were one blue and one green.

"Hand me the gun little girl, or our daddy with get a big boo boo." He said. I didn't want to kill him, but I was pissed. I stood up and hit him over the head with the bottom of the gun and kicked him in the gut.

I turned the corner and fired, hitting a man holding my dad's arm, in the thigh. He screamed in pain, and the three other guys charged me. I fired at their feet, missing. It scared them, giving me the chance to hit one in the head with the point of my gun, and kick another.

The last one charged and I rolled underneath his legs and kicked his back. I ran for a tree and climbed it, jumping down onto one of their shoulders feet first.

I used the momentum to leap off and onto the last ones shoulders. I tightened my legs around his neck and pulled him down, landing on my hands and jumping out of the way, so he could bang his head on the concrete.

I then turned to the literal last one. He was holding my dad in a headlock. "Let him go, or I'll do to you what I did to them." I said. He just laughed.

"Haha! You think you can take me on? Ha! Puny girl. Those guys were crumbs compared to me." As he went on boasting I kneeled down and grabbed a large shard of glass and hid it behind my wrist.

"Why don't we find out?" I said, throwing the sharp piece at his head. I hit his forehead as he screamed and let go of my dad. We scrambled into the car a drove off.

From that day forward, I was respected by all spies and villains, because the guy it hit was the leader of the Spiders. The most fearsome group of illegal spies around.

I came back to reality and looked at the now shattered remains of the headlight. "Don't let me drive again." I said, walking to the hood. I popped it up and a cloud of smoke hit my face. I coughed from the fumes.

"Ugh. Doesn't look to bad." I said, slamming it shut again, and checking the other side. It wasn't too bad, the worst part was the front. "It's still drivable, and we can get repairs at the next town. I'll drive this time?" Vincent said.

I gave him a glare and stuck out my tongue, crossing my arms. Later on the road we were talking, and I started to feel drowsy. "Hey Frost? You got something for drowsiness? I'm all of a sudden really tired." I said from the front, hold my head and blinking rapidly to keep my eyes open.

"Uh, are you okay?" Alicia asked, as Frost dug through her red bag. I shook my head as Frost handed me a bottle of pills. I somehow opened the cap and threw two in my mouth as I gulped down the water.

I tossed the pill bottle back to her and leaned back with a sigh. In about three minutes I was feeling better. "Wow. What did you give me?" I asked.

"Oh, just a special kind of pill." She said looking out the window. I noted the tapping fingers on her leg.

"Uh huh. What kind of special pill?" I gave her a questioning look. "What exactly did you give me? What are you not telling me?" My voice was getting louder.

She gritted her teeth, and clenched her fists. "Look. Does it matter?"

"Yes! It does. What pills did you give me?" I angrily asked.

She bit her lips and closed her eyes. "Have you noticed an ache or pain in your chest?" She asked. I mumbled a yes.

"I uh, I gave you an antibiotic slash heart pill. When you were unconscious, I felt an irregular heart beat for a while. I have you ambrosia, but I thought it'd be best to keep it safer and use a pill." She said with a cringe.

"Wait. I, I had an irregular heart beat for how long?" I asked softly.

She looked at me with tears. "At least a minute."

My heart stopped. I took a shaky breath, but I had a feeling this was normal. I don't know WHY, but I wasn't that scared. Something that had to do with my dad. It was something he told me when I was little. It was about my mom. Phoebe.

The rest of the day we were quiet. I'm not sure how we did it, but we did! Ya. It's pretty awkward. We stopped at an old shack that was serving breakfast. We all ate a TON, seeing we skipped dinner. The food was really good, and it was pretty cheap.

I was in the bathroom washing my hands, when Frost walked in. "Look. I don't want you worrying about me the whole trip. Please. The whole heart beat thing, it's hereditary. My dad has it I think. It may be my mom, but I think it's my dad. Listen. I just want you to go on as normal, and just forget it. Please." I asked, drying my hands.

"So you want me to just forget the fact that my best friend has a heart condition and at any moment she could die? Oh ya. Sure! Piece of cake. I'll just 'forget' that." She said, storming out.

Now that I think about it, why did she come in here? Never mind. I'll ask later, when she's not so touchy. My head started pounding and I got light headed. I splashed water on my face and sat down for a minute. I tried to brush the feeling of unease and distrust aside as I walked out the bathroom.

The sight that met me nearly knocked my off my feet. Two tables were on fire, three were frozen, and there were screaming people running around like madmen. How I didn't hear them I'll never know. Sirens wailed in the distance, getting closer and closer. I scanned the smoke filled room for Frost, Alicia and Vin.

To my horror I saw Vincent outside the large window, his arms wrapped around a tear and fear stricken faced Alicia. He looked up and caught sight of me. His grip loosened on Alicia and when she saw me the look of pain that crossed her face made me want to die.

I shook my head not wanting to believe it, but it was staring me in the face. The look on Vincent's face was enough. I dropped to my knees, covering my face with my hands as the tears spilled.

"No. No, no, no, No, NO!!!!" I screamed frantically. My chest felt funny. Like a hole had been cut out and taken my heart with it. It was a dull but hard pain. I looked up at the ceiling, desperate for something to tell me she was alive.

I felt the hot tears of pain and suffering drip off my face, and no matter how much I wanted to wipe them away, I couldn't. No matter how much I wanted her to come back, no matter how much I wished I could explain to her why. I couldn't. I wouldn't be able to anymore. She's gone. The wailed of the sirens were right outside the building now.

Soon, everyone was out but me. One of the firefighters tried to get me to stand up and get out, but I couldn't control my own body. I was gasping for air as the flames rose higher and more smoke filled the room.

He called to another one, and they lifted my dead weight body out of the building and laid me down on the soft grass outside. A doctor came over to see if I was okay, but I rolled over and curled up into a ball and refuse to open up.

He still checked me out though. Apparently I was fine, and he walked off, just as I started to tremble. I felt Vincent's hand on my arm, but I didn't roll over to hide the tears.

"It's okay. She's not dead." Vin said softly into my ear.

"You don't know that! How could you?" I sobbed.

"I saw it. He didn't kill her, he kidnapped her. She's not dead Sky. Get that through your head before you kill yourself." He said, pulling away.

Before he could get far, I grabbed his wrist and hugged him.

"Thank you." I whispered softly with a sob. He awkwardly patted me on the back.

"Let's go. Before they take you to the hospital and 'stabilize' you." He said, grabbing my forearm and pulled me up. We stood there for an awkward moment before he slid his arm down to my hand and grabbed Alicia's hand and we walked of.

Even though I was still emotional, I held it in until we were in a hotel and I was alone in the room while Allie and a Vin got food. (She insisted we call her that. What is it with the nicknames?)

Then I let loose. Heart breaking sobs escaped as I huffed the pillow and cried. They were happy tears mingled with the sad ones. Sad, because my best friend was gone, happy because Frost wasn't dead.
