The new Goddess

The group was broken. Tess was still sobbing, Abby hadn't said a word since we'd left the underground hall, Callum was suddenly really interested in his feet and I, I didn't feel anything. It was like someone had taken all my feelings. I felt paralyzed. Maybe this was how to much pain and sadness felt like.
Abby stopped walking. 'I can't believe it.' She said, her voice sounded shocking. 'She was there and them she was here pushing me away and now she is... She is...'
'Shut up!' A crying Tess interrupted her. She sat on the ground against the wall of the cave. Callum had followed her example, still staring at his feet.
My head told me she was dead, because it listened to the facts, but my heart, my heart told me she was still alive. I didn't know what to believe but she'd made me a promise, she promised me everything would be alright. Would that also count for situations like this one?
'Im sorry...' Abby said, also sitting against the wall now. She looked at the wall in front of her, but I had the idea she wasn't really looking. She was thinking about something, something far far away from this place.
I was the only one who was standing now. With a sigh I also say against the wall.
'We can't go on like this.' I said, and for the first time I realized how bad my voice sounded. It sounded dull and hoarse, like I'd screamed way to much. It was like I'd opened a door of pain. First it was in my voice, than it lowered to my lungs and I could barely breath and then in my heart. It was the worst pain I'd ever felt.
'Like you said.' Callum said. 'We have to go on. Otherwise Alex gave her-'
'Shhh!' Tess interrupted him. It was like she didn't want to hear Alex was dead.
'Okay....' Callum continued. 'Well you know what I mean. We can't stay here.'
'He's right.' I said with my terrible voice. Abby, Callum and I stood up. I walked over to help Tess. 'Tess, common we have to go.' She shook her head. 'Tess...' I reached out my hand and finally she took it. She swapped some tears from here cheek. 'Okay.. I'm ready.' She said.
I faced the others. 'Which way?' We could choose out of three ways.
'Left.' Abby said.
'No right.' Callum answered.
'I would definitely go straight on.' Tess decided. They looked at me. Did I have to choose?
'Ehm.' I said. Why did I have to choose? What if I chose wrong? 'I think we should go.... We should go... Uhm... Left?'
'Told ya.' Abby said.
'Why?' Callum and Tess said together.
'Because we came from that way.' I answered.
'Are you sure about that?' Callum said. 'Because I thought we came from the right way.'
'And I thought we'd come from the way in the middle!' Tess said.
'Yeah well, but it's to against one and you were staring at your feet.' Abby pointed at Callum. 'And you were sobbing.' Now she pointed at Tess.
'Yeah and you were in shock, so you're even.' I said.
'But you also chose to go left!' Abby said.
'Do you think I was paying attention? No one did!'
'So which way?' Callum asked. I sighed. 'I have really no idea....'
'I think we should listen to Tess. She smart and all right?' Abby said.
'Are you just doing this to make me look stupid if I choose the wrong way or are you seriously trying to be nice?' Tess asked.
'Why all the hate?' Abby asked back.
'Girls...' I tried to calm them down. 'Girls this is not important at the moment. We're taking the right way. If it's the wrong way, it's my fault and not yours. Shall we?'
'Ehm shouldn't we first make a strategy or something before entering one of this ways?' Tess asked.
'No? Why?'
'That could be useful you know...'
'Nothing is useful in a cave, except for exit signs.' I smiled at my own joke, but it faded away almost immediately. Alex always smiled at her own jokes and the thought of Alex was just a little to painful at the moment.
