Chapter Two
1 1/2 hours later, the train stopped in New Jersey. I lugged my suitcase up the subway stairs, and breathed in the cool air. The train was so stuffy, and I was grateful to be outside again. I looked around in the dark, trying to find my dad's cadillac.
"Why did you have to get a gray car again?" I sighed.
"The magic of car keys," My dad said, simply.
He clicked the unlock button on his car remote, immediatley a close car's lights lit up. I started rolling my bag towards it. Opening up the trunk, I stuffed my suitcase inside and climbed into the car. My dad got in and started the car. I took in the calmness (well somewhat) of New Jersey compared to the year-long chaos of New York. My dad broke the silence.
"Well, KK, are you up for burgers tonight, like always?" He started turning towards Carmen's Burger Palace.
"No! Wait!" I shouted, and my dad turned into the parking lot and parked, but didn't go in.
"Yeeeessss......?" My dad slowly turned around, like the drama king he is.
I rolled my eyes. "Seriously? Anyhew, I sorta want to go to Hong Kong Heaven tonight."
"The sushi place? That just opened? How'd you know?"
"I have social media, dad. I'm not from the sixties!" I spoke over the engine as my dad drove out of the parking lot and towards HKH.
When we arrived, I got out of the car and entered the sushi place. It was like another universe, with calm, tranquil waterfalls, and the yummy smell of seaweed and rice. I admired the stylish black-and-white floors, which the decorators somehow managed to look amazing. A blob of bright red caught my eye as I was looking at the chefs making food. I had an inner explosion. Allie Bitner, my BFFL!
A man in black (lol) walked over to us. "Please seat yourself. One of our servers will be with you momentarily."
My dad nodded and I immediately pointed to the open table right next to Allie.
"Let's sit there!" I said eagerly, and immediately fastwalked towards the table.
I then tried to be as composed as possible so I didn't become a complete spaz in the middle of an overly fancy restaurant.
