Time's Daughter

Torture

Nico's POV
I stared at the hospital door, unwilling to go inside. I couldn't bear to see her like that, her face screwed up with terror, her lips forming a silent scream. The doctors, of course, only said she was asleep. Which was entirely true--I would much rather have preferred to take Angel to Chiron, but Alice and Lucy had overridden me, and taken her to the mortal hospital I interned at at night. The doctor's recognized me right away, and they we're quite surprised when I came in with Angel and her friends.
She'd completely collapsed in the kitchen, at first nothing had seemed to happen--the other's figured it was just exhaustion, but when she started thrashing about, they had insisted on taking her to the hospital, where she'd been restrained and connected to several machines. I could've sworn she'd called out my name a couple times, but it was so soft, I figured I'd just imagined it.
I sat in the waiting room outside her door, ignoring the fact the my phone was going crazy. I had texted the others what had happened, now my phone kept getting replies most of them being 'I'm on my way'. Jason was the first to show up.
"Nico!" he called, and hardly looked up at him. My ears were starting to fill up with ringing. Jason bent down to my level. "Hey, Nico, look at me," he scolded. "Everything is going to be alright, Chiron's on his way too."
I looked at him, his eyes were full of worry and concern. "Why are you in there with her?" he asked.
"I was," I whispered quietly. "She's--" I couldn't find the words to describe it. It was terrifying to see her like that. I wasn't sure I wanted to describe it, either. I choked up, my eyes started to water. What was happening to her?
Jason gave me a hug. "Dude, it's gonna be fine, Chiron will be able to heal her, I know it."
I didn't say anything--mostly because at the moment, a blood-curdling scream echoed from Angel's room. Without a word, Lucy and Alice came flying out, their hands pressed to their ears. "Make it stop!" they screamed. But it stopped as quickly as it had started. I peered in to the room. Angel was awake.
She was staring at the ceiling, her breathing labored, and looking severely beaten. There were bruises and cuts and abrasions everywhere--most of which were still open and bleeding. Her eyes scanned to room real quick then fell on me. She tried to reach out, but the restraints stopped her.
She stares at them for a moment, before starting to scream again. "NO! NO! LET ME OUT!" She sounded frantic, and she fought against the restraints. Doctors and nurses rushed into the room, but they were thrown back by a golden light emitting from her body.
She glared at me. "GET ME OUT OF HERE!" Tears we streaming down her face. I acted instantly, cutting her from the restraints and pulling her into my arms. She cried hard, her tears mixing with blood, only then did she stop screaming and fighting, and then Chiron showed up with the others.
Angel stared at Chiron, bound in his wheel chair. "Can you call the gods to council?" she asked, surprising everyone in the room. "It is of utmost importance, that I speak with the gods, Chiron," she scolded, power resonating from her voice. "Call the meeting--or the gods will seize to exist!"
A council was called.

Angel didn't even let us try to heal her when she barged into the throne room. It was quite an achievement, as each step she took left a bloody footprint behind. Despite her being in pain, and afraid she was calm and the only expression on her face was fury. Her hair stood on end, and she radiated more power than the gods that sat in front her.
She smiled a wicked smile, one than meant more harm than good. "Tell me," she asked. "Where is Morpheus? I much desire to speak with him."
Zeus leaned forward. "Morpheus is not a major god and does not belong on this council," he scolded.
Angel's smile widened. "Well, he did say he acting on the orders of a major god--does anyone here have something to say to me."
Ares shifted uncomfortably. Angel stared at him. She turned her head to the side slightly, and suddenly, Ares was choking--gasping for air. "Was it you?" she asked quietly. "Did you order Morpheus to torture me?"
Torture? She'd been tortured? Blood rushed to my red, pounding in my ears. I was furious. How could I have let this happen?
Athena spoke up. "Angel!" she called, stepping down from her throne, and shrinking down to human size. "Your anger has blinded you, think for a moment!"
Angel turned fiercely towards the goddess of wisdom, releasing Ares from her grasp. "What are you implying, girl?" she asked, her lip curling in disgust.
"Athaliah, is by far one of the most powerful beings to exist--we are not stupid enough to attack one of her hosts like that and let you live! She can kill even immortal beings like us on a whim!" Athena explained. "Someone else is behind this, I assure you."
Angel's fury faded slightly, she sank to the floor, breathing heavily, it was fury that was making her stand like that. "What makes you say this?" she asked, quietly.
Athena looked to Hephaestus and nodded. Hephaestus stepped off this throne and wheeled in a Morpheus--he was bound to a wheel chair. Angel paled at the sight of him and moved to stand by me, wrapping her arms around my own.
The minor god screamed and thrashed the same way Angel had when she had collapsed, but was soon quieted by the gods. Athena looked at Angel. "You need not fear him, Angel," she smiled. "We won't let him hurt you again. He has been possessed by a powerful being," she explained. "It will take some time to help him and find out who did this, but I assure you, we never had any intention of harming you."
Angel's anger completely faded, she looked about ready to cry again, but she nodded, then looked down at herself, still torn up and battered. "If you don't mind," she quietly asked, sounding like a child. The gods looked at each other and nodded.
Angel was healed (Aphrodite threw in some clothes too--basically a little black dress with touches of gold in all the right spots). She smiled and thanked the gods, then turned serious.
"If someone more dangerous than you, is out to get me, where am I to stay and still be safe?"
This question started a debate which lasted hours, and ended with her sleeping on my shoulder. She only one thing that she required: Me (which actually surprised me a bit) so it looked like she and I would be spending quite a bit of time in the underworld with my father, Hades.
