Time's Daughter

It was three in the afternoon before I managed to get Kimmi to settle in. It took food, some nice music, and a nap to get her alright again. I walked back to my bedroom, thinking to take a nap, but I saw my laptop open, an article pulled up.
Strange I thought. I hadn't left it open or on. I picked up my blue reading glasses up off the desk next the lap top and read the article. It was another old article about my past. Someone was trying to scare me. It wouldn't work. I pulled a book towards me and set my legs up on the desk, leaning back in my chair hooking my feet in the back supporting planks as I began to read drifting off to sleep.


The old me stood in front of me. Well, sort of, She stood on water. I could hear the rushing of waves. We were at the ocean. My mouth dropped, as it always did on the rare times I actually saw the rising waves of ocean water.
She smiled at me. She never spoke to me. Not once. The pocket watch was in her hand again. I looked at it more closely this time. It had a beautiful golden glow to it, and the cover was beautifully decorated with precious stones that reflected a starry universe.
She held it out towards me, smiling. I lift my head pridefully. "No," I said. "I will accept nothing from you!"
Her smile fades. She continues to offer the watch. A deep voice spoke. "It's yours," it said. "It always had been."
I shake my head. I will not touch that watch. The old me faded. The waves froze, and I fell into the water, drowning. I gasp for air.


The door bell rings as I wake up, my feet unhooking me from the desk and causing me to fall. I crash to the floor, taking several objects with me. I hear Kimmi invite someone into the house before coming into check on me.
I push some of the papers and books off me as Kimmi walks in and laughs at me.
"You fell asleep leaning back in your chair again, didn't you?" she asked.
"Shut up," I grumble, getting to my feet and taking a drink. I didn't like the way she said again, it made it seem like it happened a lot. It did, of course, but people didn't need to know that! "Who'd you let in?"
Kimmi smiled mischievously. "Nico di Angelo."
I choke on my drink. I cough for a moment. "Why would you do that?" I asked. "You know how nervous I get around him!"
Kimmi continued to smile. "That's why I did it," she said a little too excited about this for a normal person."So you could get used to being around him. Besides," She nudged me. "I think he likes you!"
I don't say nothing for a moment, so she takes the moment to grab my hand and pull me out in the living room, where Nico stood, looking at some of the pictures on the walls.
He turned to smile at me, but ended up having to catch me, as Kimmi pushed me towards him. "I didn't know you wear glasses," He said helping me stand up properly.
"Oh, um," I say articulately, pulling my glasses off my face.
"They're reading glasses," Kimmi whispered popping up over my shoulder, with my black shoulder bag.
"What are you doing?" I ask, knowing full well what she was doing, and dreading it.
She smiled. "Kicking the two of you out!"
She pushed us both out the door. Throwing my bag at me and slamming the door, locking it tight against me. "Go!" she called. "Go on a date for once Ang!"
"Kimmi!" I call, banging on the door. "Let me in!"
"No."
Laughing echoed behind me. I turned to see Nico laughing, at me! "And what is so funny?" I ask, annoyed.
"Nothing," he said. "You just look kinda cute when you're flustered."
My cheeks burned, and I just turned and started walking down the street. Nico followed me. "So wanna get some coffee?" he ask.
I smile slightly. "I don't like coffee."
"A movie then?" He was smiling at me so broadly it was hard to say no. In the end, I didn't and we went to see The Fault In Our Stars.
