The Daughter of Memory

Chapter One

There aren't many ways one can introduce themselves. I mean, yeah, you can say "Hi, my name is..." or "Nice to meet you, I'm..." but to me, these introductions are short and don't tell the person anything about you. I mean, you could be shaking hands with a serial killer for Pluto's sake! So, instead of doing something simple like saying "Hi, my name is..." I'm going to show you my whole story. It's not pretty, but then again, what demigod's story is pretty?

My name is Corona Tomkins. I'm sixteen years old and I live at Camp Jupiter. As of two weeks ago, I was an unclaimed demigod. But, now, I wear the oh-loving title of the One and Only. How'd I get that title? Let's see. It all started two weeks ago when I got claimed.
"Corona! Get up! Get up!" A voice squeals into my ear. I groan and roll over onto my stomach, covering my eyes from the morning sun. "Corona!" The voice yell again, more persistent this time. Annoyed, I roll over and groan. "Wadda want, Amor?"

My best friend, Amor, daughter of Venus, shakes my shoulder roughly. I moan and push at her weakly. She giggles. "Corona, get up! Today is your sixteenth birthday! Today's the day you'll get claimed!"

The fact that today is my birthday registered in my head. But, to be honest, I didn't care. I just wanted to sleep. I was up all night guarding the tunnel entrance to camp. "Amor, I've been up all night guarding the tunnel. Can't you let me sleep in some more?" I ask groggily.

I hear silence for a moment, and thinking that Amor left, I snuggled back up with my blanket and fell back asleep. Which was a mistake on my part. One moment I was all snug in my bed, and the next I was flying through the air, landing on my back in my room. My eyes fly open, searching the room for the intruder.

My eyes go back to the ceiling. But before they find the ceiling, they land on a face. A face with waist long black hair and chocolate brown eyes. The mouth is twisted into a grin so wide, it makes my cheeks hurt looking at it.

"Amor, what... what was that for?" I gasp, struggling to sit up. I rub where my shoulder slammed into the floor. I was sure to have a bruise there tomorrow. "I said get up. You didn't. So, I took matters into my own hands and pushed you off the bed. Now, you're awake. Get up and get dressed. Meet me in the Field of Mars. Same place as always." She demands, throwing a pair of clothes at me. My door opens and she's gone.

I catch the clothes automatically and look at them. The shirt is a gorgeous icy blue tank top that stops just above my belly button. The pants are jean shorts with a few rips in them, and last but not least, my favorite pair of purple converse shoes. Smiling slightly, I drag the outfit on and gather my copper hair up in a ponytail. When I'm done I look at myself in the mirror and say, "I'm ready."

I open my bedroom door and run across camp to the Field of Mars. I find Amor sitting on a rock with her long tanned legs crossed. When she sees me, she grins and wave. "Okay, I'm up. I'm here. Wadda want?" Amor pushes herself off the rock and walks over to me, one hand behind her back.

"I want to give you a present. After this, we'll go back to camp. Close your eyes." She orders. I do as she says and close my eyes. I hear her take a few steps forward and then I feel her putting something around my neck. I can also feel her hair tickling my nose and cheek. I sneeze.

Amor pulls away and, with my eyes still closed, I rub my nose. "Okay. You can open them." I open my eyes slowly, blinking a few times to allow them to adjust. I look down at the thing that now occupies a space around my neck.

A diamond heart with a black infinity sigh appears in my line of vision. "Oh, Amor. This is so pretty." I sigh. The daughter of Venus laughs. "I knew you would! Press the infinity sign." It was a strange statement, but I do as she says and press the infinity sign. A three foot sword shimmers into existence. It gleamed gold in the morning sun and was perfectly balanced.
Etched onto the hilt in gleaming celestial bronze was 'PeaceKeeper'.

I swing the sword around a few times. "Whoa. Amor, this is amazing! I love it! Er, how do I get rid of it?" I ask, hugging her. "Press the infinity sign again." She replies, still in the hug. I press the infinity sign again and the sword disappears. "Awesome! Now, let's go back to camp so you can get claimed."

With our arms hooked together, we leave the Field of Mars and head back to camp. We had just crossed the Pomerian Line when all of a sudden a flaming safe appeared above my head, illuminating my face and Amor's face a bright, neon green.

"Oh, Styx."

Notes

Anyone wanna tell me what Amor translates to?

Bravo, bravo! This story is definitely one that caught my eye! You seem to have captured the very heart of Camp Jupiter in this very story. I must say I'm impressed. Good job Nala.

Alright, if no one else wants to comment, I will. I am genuinely happy to see this updated. To have a son/daughter of a titan is creative, and I cannot wait for this story to develop. Keep up the good work.
