Behind the Shadows

Sailing The Unknown

Ten minutes is all it took Sapphire to pack her things, and then set sail on a row boat. Luke didn't say goodbye and when she was climbing on to the little row boat, the heavens opened up and it began to rain. She sailed past the small island and then into the unknown. Sapphire was uncertain of where she was going to go. Camp was now a no go. What would she say when she got there. 'Hey guys, have no fear, I only joined Luke's army to save you lot'. No one was going to believe her and she had been gone too long with no communication to any of the campers. All she could hope for is that Luke pulled through on his promise, and stopped targeting the camp and returned Chiron.
Three hours of sailing and Sapphire had come up with a plan. She had decided to work behind the scenes, and would help camp as much as she could without them knowing. School was her best option of staying hidden. There had to be a boarding school somewhere close to camp.
The sea was choppy, it made the boat sway side to side. The rain would not stop and her clothes were soaked through. This did not feel like a victory. She had saved camp and this is what she got. When Percy returned the lightning bolt he was showered in rewards. His friends loved him more and he became a role model for all the campers. Sapphire however was now frowned upon and was probably feared, or was now would be called the bad twin or something like that. None of that really bothered Sapphire now, maybe a little, but all she could hope for that maybe in the end she would be forgiven. In her mind she had done nothing wrong, but back in camp however things were different.

Part one - Through Jake's Eyes
It was like waiting for fog to clear and that was all Jake could do, wait. Months had gone by and it had been a living hell. He was there, but not really. His mind had not been his own. Jake saw everything and could hear, but he had no control over anything. What was worse that he had gone through it alone. With every camper the same as him, he had felt a horrible loneliness. The fogginess in his head was lifting and finally, for the first time in month he formed his own thought and spoke his first word. "Chiron!" Jake shouts.
The Centaur Stands by the entrance of the camp. His posture is slumped and his face in crumpled. Jake sprints over to him. Other campers do the same and others hug each other, like they haven't seen one another in years. Jake reaches Chiron and everything about him is worrying.
"What happened to us?" A girl asks Chiron. Everyone around nods their heads. Chiron sighs heavily. "What happened to you?" Chiron waves the questions off and walks past without a word. The girl who had asked stomps her foot in irritation. Jake watches Chiron until he is out of sight. The Centaur wasn't injured and looked in good health. It was troubling to think of what might of happened to him.
Later on Jake finds himself at his dinner table with his cabin mates. Everyone is in hushed whispers, and from over hearing a few conversations, it was clear a certain subject was being avoided. Jake didn't know why she had disappeared, but he was there on the night he had run off. All he did was watch while his mind was stolen. Sapphire had not returned and it worried Jake. Where had she gone? Was she okay? Some of the campers blamed her for what had happened and it made no sense to Jake. Why would any of this be Sapphire's fault?
Chiron enters and the room falls into complete silence. In the silence so many unspoken questions can be heard. The same girl who had asked questions earlier stands up and faces Chiron. She is in the Athena cabin. Her determination made sense now.
"We need answers, sir?" The girl sounds so formal. Her bright eyes and stubborn expression reminds Jake of Sapphire. Chiron stares at the girl and a slight smile comes to his face.
"I will tell you all everything at the campfire after dinner" Chiron says and as soon as he says it the room relaxes. Jake stare down at his food and sighs when he see's cake.
