Behind the Shadows

Fighting With A 'Borrowed' Sword (Chapter Three - edited)

Everything was going wrong. Sapphire was running after an Ares girl hoping to disarm her. This had been going on for ten minutes. The girl is called Clarisse, and she is a pain in the neck when it came to capture the flag. Clarisse hated Sapphire for some unknown reason so every time capture the flag was on Sapphire really had to watch her back. In this case Clarisse had to watch her back too.
Sapphire reached for her bow and arrow. Still running she aimed it at the sword in Clarisse's hand. Demigods were taught not to run with their swords out. Sapphire thought this was a great time to remind Clarisse why. Pulling back the arrow, she let it soar through the air. The great thing about being a daughter of Apollo is the great archery skills. The arrow hit the sword with a hard force. Clarisse grunted from the surprise when the sword flew out of her hand and clattered on the ground a few metres away from her. Sapphire sped up and raced to grab the sword. When she had the sword she found that Clarisse was nowhere to be seen. Sapphire stopped dead and turned in a circle looking for Clarisse. She had just vanished. It made her nervous. A lot of noise was going off in the distance from other campers fighting. Where Sapphire was standing she was alone with not a single camper or monster in sight. She took the moment to regain her breath and nerves. She put her bow away and kept ahold of the sword.

Once she was good Sapphire ran on forward towards the noise of the fighting campers. Luke had told her to barrel through and aim for where Percy was and that is what she would do. She got to where all the fighting was. It looked like a war zone with campers at each others throat. No one seemed to notice her, so Saphire took that to her advantage and aimed to go around them all. She spotted a glimmer of water in the distance and cursed to herself. It was where Percy had been positioned. Sapphire ran like her life depended on it in the direction of the creek. The closer she got the more nervous she got. It seemed odd that everyone was fighting and not a single one focusing on going for a flag.

"Sapphire!" A voice came from behind her. Sapphire grabbed the sword she had stolen from Clarisse tightly and whirled round. It was Jake. He was on the opposite team so Sapphire aimed her 'borrowed' sworded at him. He did the same to her. She knew she shouldn't waste time fighting him so she slowly walked backward towards the creak. Jake followed with a wicked grin on his face.
"You don't use a sword" Jake informed her looking a bit confused. He took the first move and shoved his arm forward aiming to disarm her. Sapphire moved to the left quickly just missing the slash. She carried on the fight mirroring his moves. She hated sword fights it felt wrong to her like it was forbidden and that made her usually just stuck to her bow and arrow. However, she was brilliant at sword fighting but there was something it the back of her head telling her that she did not like it, or that maybe she should learn another combat skill. She had once told Chiron about these weird thoughts telling her no to things and he had gone pale as a sheet, telling her it was normal even though his expression told her the opposite.

Sapphire carried on walking backwards while fighting Jake. She knew she was close. She could hear Percy shouting at someone. She couldn't hear what he was saying, but when the other person replied she knew instantly where Clarisse had disappeared to. Slightly distracted by the shouting. Jake had managed to get the better had and his sword flew down on her sword hand. The sword she was holding dropped on the ground. She gasped and yanked her hand back from the pain. She looked up at Jake and saw he was rather shocked at what he had done. With no time to grab her bow and arrow, she spun round and bolted forward and broke through the trees on into the area of the creek.
"You can't Just run away from a fight" Jake Shouted from behind her. Sapphire ignored him and grinned. She stepped forward but was yanked back. With a gasp she pulled out of the grip grabbing her bow and arrow turning to the person. It was one of Clarisse's minions. Sapphire never took the time to remember their names. The girl was standing there, sword in hand while sneering at Sapphire. Sapphire flew into action and kicked the girl hard in the stomach sending her soaring backwards. Sapphire then examined the area. Percy was on the ground surrounded by Clarisse and her minions. They didn't even look her way as she approached.
"Not really a fair fight, is it?" Sapphire states, attempting to divert their attention. They looked at her. Sapphire brought her bow up and shot arrows one after another. She had used it more for a distraction for Percy than a fight. It worked they all started trudging in her direction and stopped half way. Why had they stopped? Sapphire blinked confused. Clarisse snarled at her. "Lets at least even the odds"
"Beat it" One of the girls spoke.
"huh?" Sapphire spluttered completely lost. Clarisse just laughed and turned back to Percy who was now standing and walking backward in the direction of the creek. All the girls turned back on him. Clarisse gave him one shove and he fell into the creek. Sapphire cringed to herself. The boy was hopeless with all his injuries. She grabbed another arrow and aimed to fire.
More people had arrived at the creek now and were just standing there watching. Sapphire couldn't bare it any longer and took a step forward but stopped dead. A sign had appeared above Percy's head in the shape of a trident. Everyone stopped what they were doing and cheered. Sapphire felt cold all over. She should be cheering too but she couldn't move. Her breathing turned heavy and she now felt faint. Falling a few step backwards she was caught by a set of hands.
"Sapphire?" It was Jake. She could barely hear him from a loud noise shouting at her in her head. She mumbled a few words then everything went black.
