Behind the Shadows

The Loyal and Annoying Friend - Updated Chapter

The Apollo cabin was pretty quite most of the day. A few people came in and out, but it didn't bother Sapphire. She slept most of the day trying to rid herself of the horrible pain in her head. Sapphire woke in the early evening feeling her stomach grumble and ache from hunger. She sat up and scanned the cabin. No,one was about so she got out of bed and decided to head out and get some food.

As sapphire walked along the path leading to the food hall she stopped at the fountain. Everything had changed in her life and she was not sure how to handle it. Sapphire gazed into the water wondering if she could control it without going crazy with emotions now that she knew the truth. She sat down and stretched out her arm placing her hand into the reflecting water. Closing her eyes she imagined the water climbing up her hand. Nothing happened. A slight bit of disappointment crept through her. Maybe it just needed practise. Sapphire sighed and stood back up. Starting to feel a craving for cake she headed to the food hall.

Apparently it was dinner time anyway. When she walked in she found everyone sitting at the tables chattering about normal things like being attacked by monsters and which weapon was the best. Well as normal as a demigods life gets. Sapphire walked past tables until she reached the Apollo one. She always loved sitting with the Apollo kids. They were great fun and always welcomed her with open arms. Sapphire took a seat at the table and looked at the plate in front of her. Cake appeared on the plate instantly and Sapphire dug straight into it.
"Isn't that usually your breakfast" Someone said from behind her. It was Jake.
"What about it?" Sapphire mumbled with a mouth full of cake. She heard Jake laugh.
"Just observing" Jake answered. Sapphire shifted in her seat so she could face Jake and give him her usual disapproving look.
"Do you usually watch people eat while standing right behind them?" She asked.
"Only the special ones!" Jake winked. Sapphire scoffed and turned back to her food.
"What do you want Jake?"
"You're cheery today! I was going to ask you if you were going to be at the campfire tonight?"
"I dont think so" Jakes smile dropped.
"Please! Is this about me hitting your hand with my sword?" Sapphire sighed and jabbed her cake with her fork.
"No, Jake I've just had a bad day and don't feel like going" Sapphire heard Jake huff. He was quiet for a moment making Sapphire think that he had gone away. Unfortunately he hadn't. Jake spoke to the girl who was sitting next to Sapphire. Not paying attention Sapphire didn't notice that he had just bribe the girl into letting him sit next to Sapphire. He plopped down next to her and looked Sapphire straight in the eye.
"Go away Jake. Your not allowed to sit at other tables!" Sapphire hissed. His presence was starting to bug her.
"I'm not leaving until you say yes to going"
"Then I will leave" Sapphire picked up her plate and got up from the table. Jake followed. She had admit to herself that he was a pretty loyal friend.
"You can talk to me about your day if you want" Jake nagged as they walked down the hall towards the fire in the centre of the room. Sapphire threw her excess food into it and whispered a message for the god she was offering it to. Poseidon, The message to him was short but not sweet. 'We all have our secrets and lies'. Sapphire knew it was not the right thing to do. Chiron had told her to act normal and unnoticeable. She felt too angry and betrayed to even see straight. Sapphire silently tucked some hair behind her ear before she trudged outside with Jake prancing along behind her.

Once she was outside she huffed and swung round to face Jake.
"Fine!" She spat.
"You will go? Or you want to tell me about your big bad day?" He replied with a cheesy grin on his face.
"I will go"
"Really?"
"Yes!"
"Yes!" Jake fist pumped the air. Sapphire rolled her eyes and smacked his arm while a smile crept onto her face.
"You're more of a girl than I am!" She piped while she laughed as he danced about still fist pumping the air.
"I would make a great girl!" He stated. Sapphire laughed harder.
"Weirdo" She sang as she grabbed his arm and led him along the pathway.
