Chapter twenty six
Recap
"Peleus!" Stacey cried and went to his side to examine the wound, while I looked around to see if anything was wrong. My gaze went up to the lowest branch, when realization dawned upon me.
"Stacey" I whispered and she looked up to see where I was looking, and gasped.
"The Golden Fleece. Its gone."
STACEY POV
This was not happening. It could not happen. But then, the proof was right before my eyes. I never thought Titania would strike so early. It was just 20th December. Wait, 20th December, two days for the winter solstice. How could I be such an idiot, forgetting what Titania was capable of. And now, the Fleece was gone.
"How did this happen? And who did it?" Nico wondered out aloud, as I stood up and went to stand next to him. "Titania. I should've known this" I cursed. "How would you know" Nico questioned.
"Only she is capable of doing this without any of us noticing. We have to tell Chiron, now!" I said and ran off, but not before going to Peleus and whispering a few words of encouragement, and he grunted in reply.
Nico ran behind me, all the way to Zeus' fist, where all the others were standing, the game complete. "Where were you? We lost, if you mind!" Clarisse shouted as we reached them.
"That's not important. Where is Chiron? I have to talk to him, right now!" I demanded, annoyed and my anger trying to make an appearance. "What is soo important besides the fact that we just lost?" Clarisse growled as she blocked my way. My temper went lose, and I shouted at her,
"The Golden Fleece is GONE! And you're worrying about losing?".
All around me, the demigods went silent and then the shouting began. Everyone was trying to run to the pine tree, to see it for themselves, when Chiron came into the clearing and called out,
"What is happening? Everyone calm down! What is it, Stacey?". " The Fleece, she took it" I replied, looking at him in the eye. He immediately understood what I was trying to say, and announced, "Percy, Annabeth and Nico, you go in one direction to search for it while Jason, Piper and Leo go in another. Leo? Where is Leo?" He looked around, when Leo came running out of the thicket.
"Where were you?" Chiron asked him, he replied, "Nature's call". " Alright, off you all go".
They nodded and went off at once, while the others rushed to the pine when I remembered Peleus. " Chiron, Peleus has been poisoned. You have to cure him" I cried, he nodded and put me on his back and galloped to the spot, where Peleus was still growling in pain. I quickly got of Chiron's back and went to his side and did not like what I saw.
The wound had taken a shade of ugly greenish black, and was now oozing a black liquid. The flesh around the wound seemed to be sizzling, and was emitting green colored smoke. "Get an Apollo healer, now!" I called out, and one of them, Thomas stepped forward and took a look at the wound and shook his head. "I can't cure this. This is a different type of poison" he explained.
"He's dying!" I cried but he just shook his head and moved back, when Chiron came forward and said, "You can cure this, child. You have a connection with dragons". " I can't, Chiron".
"Why don't you try? I'm sure you can" he replied. I took a deep breath and placed my hand near the wound and concentrated on trying to draw out all the poison from the cut. I remembered Percy telling me that children of Poseidon have control over any kind of liquid, even poison. Suddenly, I heard a sizzling and saw the poiuson coming out from the cut and dripping on the ground. I jumped back to let the poison flow down, it fell on the grass, burning it.
I replaced my hand on his stomach and tried to use the healing spells I had been learning from Tamara. But then, my ring started glowing with a fierce orange light, closing the cut and healing the skin around it. My forehead starts sweating and I could feel my energy leaving me. After a final hiss, Peleus' skin is fine and healed. He gives me a lick on the cheek with a scaly tongue, washing my face in progress. "Thanks buddy" I petted him and stood up, when I faltered and Chiron caught me.
"I need to talk to you, Stacey. Come" and he put me on his back and galloped to the Big House, where he put me down and took me to his office. "It was Titania! I could feel her presence, slightly" I burst out.
"I'm afraid it was, Stacey. We have to be on our guard now, or else things could get very difficult, especially for you" he replied and looked at me kindly. I groaned and sank down in one of the chairs, my head in my hands, while Chiron continued, "She will do it on this solstice, she will not wait any longer. She has already waited for 10 years. You have to be careful".
" But what if..." I started when suddenly the door burst open, and Jason came in, looking flushed. "Chiron, we came to know who it was?"
"Who?" Both Chiron and I sat up. Jason gulped and said something that chilled my blood,
"It was someone from camp".
