Healing

The cut across my collarbone had healed up quickly and Jack's leg was just knitting itself back together when his eyes fluttered open again and he tried to sit up. I pushed him back down gently.

"Wait until you're healed up properly." I told him. "Don't reopen the injury."

He rolles his eyes but complied, relaxing back against the street. "Yes mother." He mumbled. "Where are the others?"

"They've gone after the girl who stabbed you." I told him with a sigh. "I don't think they really realised what a bad idea splitting up is."

He laughed weakly. "Do you know which way they went?"

I nodded. "I think so."

He struggled back to sitting before I could push him back down. "Then let's go after them."

"You're not walking in your state." I told him sternly.

He laughed again and stood casually. "Stop mothering me, Dove. I'm fine!"

I scrambled to my feet and levelled a finger ar him threateningly. "Sit. Back. Down. Now!" I ordered.

He looked down on me and raised his eyebrows. He was a year younger but was still taller than me. So. Not. Fair.

"So are we gonna leave or what?" He asked.

"I vote for what." I said coldly.

He laughed and started limping down the street.

"Wrong way!" I called after him before turning and following the direction I had seen Allen ans Damion go.

The street was winding and hard to follow. But at least they had left a clear path of destruction and chaos instead. There were overturned carts and very put out Chinese shop owners and pedestrians. All we had to do was ask which way the culprits had gone and the furious locals would point us in the right direction.

As we walked, Jack's face slowly drained of colour and I encouraged him to lean on me for support. Eventually we followed the chaos from the main street and the trail seemed to fade. That is, until I spotted the blur of the girl who had attacked us sprinting away down a different side street.

"Hey!" I called after her. Leaving Jack to lean against a wall and sprinting after her. "Hey! Where are you going?"

She caught sight of me, startled and her pace slowed to a stop.

"What did you do to my friends?" I demanded.

She groaned impatiently. "I didn't do anything to them, they're in the house with the flower outside. Take a left then a quick right." She took off again before I could thank her.

I walked back to Jack who quite frankly didn't look very good. "They're close." I told him and he nodded.

"I don't think I can go any further." He told me. "I'll stay here and rest. You go ahead and find the others. I'll try and follow once the world stops spinning but if not just come back for me later."

I frowned. "Are you sure?"

He nodded. "Go."

I nodded grudgingly and continued to jog through the streets, following the directions the girl had given me until eventually I came to a stop outside a small house with a flower in a pot sitting on the porch and sounds of fighting coming from inside.

I sighed and started towards the door.

@The Bright One
Who? Sorry, I haven't been keeping up with the Maury Povich show that this site has turned into as of late. (For you, the New Zealander, the Maury Povich Show is a dramatic relationship-ruining talk show where deadbeat dads have to face the fact that they have to pay child support. Look it up, the stuff's hilarious.)
