Embers

"You're free to go." The translator said in halting English.

"Huh?" I clambered from the floor of my desolate cell as the iron door creaked open.

"Your father has payed bail. You and your friends are free to go." He smiled and led me down the hallway past cell after cell.

"What were we arrested for?" I asked.

"Disrupting the peace." He answered, holding a door open for me and walking me into an office where Leo, Kat and Jack already waited. They pulled off my handcuffs and I hugged my dad and cousin, Kat was still pale and shaking, collapsed on a chair.

"Where's Allen?" I asked.

Sirens began to blare around us and I clenched my fists to stop them shaking with anger.

"That idiot." I muttered.
