Through Tartarus and back
Prologue
So....thirsty....
I stumbled through the obsidian wasteland, wincing as the black rocks bit into my feet.
I....can't go....any farther....
I collapsed on the sharp ground and felt my heart stutter to a stop.
This is....the end....of me....
I loose consciousness.
------
I wake up to a jarring pain in my chest, snapping into my awareness.
How...? How am I alive...?
I struggle to my feet and continue on. My heart does not beat.
I wanted to scream. To make it all stop. I could not. I was no longer capable of thought.
Something was controlling me.
Yes, continue on your quest, little hero. You will be my weapon. A weapon to destroy the gods.
Part of me was panicking. A weapon to destroy the gods?! Not possible!
The other part wanted to obey the voice, to give in and do what it tells me.
I limped along the flesh of Tartarus, the monsters now ignoring me as if I were one of them.
It was then that I found the river Styx.
Yes....perfect. I will make you perfect. Drink, mortal. Become whole.
I did not hesitate to gulp down the liquid and obey the voice. It was my new master.
Then I felt as if my body was on fire, burning through my mind and soul.
I collapsed once more, screaming in agony. I could feel it changing me, making me different. Better.
But even as I drifted to unconsciousness, I could feel the pain following me into my dream.
Make it stop! Please make it stop! I begged in my mind. The voice was listening.
Very well. Sleep, my champion. Awaken to a new age. A golden age.
I slipped into blissful sleep.
