Chapter seven Dave
We must've been at the store for an hour before realizing we were being hunted. Again.
Coach Hedge pulled up in our more-or-less stolen van. I had "convinced" the owner to give it to us. Not sure how I did, but I did. Coach Hedge said something about me having a charming voice and Tristan McLean but I kinda tuned him out. I was more focused on trying to absorb everything that was happening. From what Coach said, there was not only a place but an ENTIRE CAMP for people like me. They trained there, lived there, made friends there. Maybe I could find someone to play mythomajic with me. I pulled my moms card out of my jacket pocket. It was a picture of her with glowing wait hair, an old Greek dress and the moon rising behind her. And a lion for some reason, but I couldn't remember why. Probably some sacred animal or something.
I was sitting in the back with the coach up front driving. We had been driving for about three hours when we had to make an emergency evac out of Charleston. Apparently, naiads don't take lightly to a moon goddess dragging them around.
We stopped a few times for gas and such but eventually, we were gonna run out of money and options. We pulled over to a building called "Aunty Em's garden emporium"
"Stay here kid. I'm gonna go make a call and maybe get a ride. Jackson owes me that much at least."
He clopped off to find a pay phone.
I leaned against the side of the van, waiting for him to come back. It didn't look like there was another rest stop for another couple of miles each way. I turned the card threw my hand, expecting monsters. Something about this place didn't feel right. Maybe it was the stone statues screaming in terror. Maybe it was the slash marks on the walls. I don't know, it just didn't feel right. I looked around the woods for something. Just as I was about to get back in the van, Coach Hedge screamed.
