The Beginning Of Solangelo

Will’s POV
I left Nico in his room to get ready. Walking down to the Dining Pavilion, I ran my fingers through my hair multiple times to get it to its usual messy texture. The Romans were already integrated into daily life, seeing as they were all mingling with the Greeks at any table that they pleased. At the Hades table, Hazel, sitting with Frank, Reyna, Cecil, and Lou Ellen, waved me over. I trotted over to them, running my hand through my hair one more for good measures. After all, I was going to sit with Nico’s half-sister. And both Roman Praetors. And my two best friends. What could go wrong? The five of them greeted me as I sat down on the bench.

Nico’s POV
I walked up to the Dining Pavilion, hurriedly searching for the mop of blond hair that I called my boyfriend. Are we technically dating?
I spotted Will at the Hades table with Hazel, Frank, Reyna, and Will’s best friends, Cecil and Lou Ellen. They were making a lot of noise. The six of them looked up at me when I reached the table. They were all red-faced from laughing. I slowly sat down at the edge of the table, quietly wondering what was so funny. Will scooted down on the bench and bumped his shoulder into mine.
“Hey,” he whispered while the others were still laughing and giggling.
I didn’t have any time to reply because just then Percy got up from the table where he was sitting at with Annabeth, Jason, Piper, and a few Romans. He yelled, “what is that?” as he ran out of the pavilion, pointing towards the sky.
Waves of demigods rushed out into the open space, some drawing weapons. I pulled out my sword, and pushed myself to the front of the crowd. I heard a faint, “what the-?” and turned around to see that Will had followed me, with a hand above his eyes.
A huge bronze blob was partially blocking out the sun so the blob was surrounded by a halo of light. As the blob got closer, I could make out two smaller blobs on the back of it. Percy, Jason, Annabeth, Piper, Reyna, Hazel, Frank, and me all stepped forward, presumptuously all guessing who was on the back of the bronze blob. I felt Will take a step closer to me and place a hesitant hand on my shoulder. Piper squealed when the now-discernable bronze dragon landed on the ground. The two blobs hopped off the back and landed softly on their feet. I could see that one of them was none other than the dead Leo Valdez and the other was a rather-attractive-for-a-female female, who radiated old power. She was definitely not mortal.
“No way,” mumbled Percy. Piper surged forward out of the little crowd that was made of us nine and ran all the way up to Leo. Jason followed close behind her, wiping tears out from under his glasses. I glanced over at Hazel to see that she was wrapped in Frank’s arms, sobbing silently with a confused expression on her face. The rest of us nine, which was now only seven, ran forward to meet the very much alive Leo Valdez and his attractive companion.
“How did you-?” I started, but paused when Piper leapt towards Leo and tackled him in a bear hug. She scrambled off of Leo and helped him up. Piper brushed off her clothes and turned around. A second later, she whirled back around and punched Leo, her fist connecting with his jaw. Leo stumbled backwards and was caught by the girl that was with him. Piper stepped towards Leo and started to yell at him. Jason grabbed her by the waist, picking her up, and carried her out of our little circle. The people surrounding us were starting to mumble and shuffle around to see what was going on.
“Missed you too, Beauty Queen,” Leo said, rubbing his jaw where a bruise was already starting to form.
“It’s been almost a year, Leo! Did you ever think that we would want to know you were alive? You could’ve sent a message!” Piper yelled in between sobs.
“A year!” Leo said, obvious shock flashing across his face. “It feels like only a week!” Jason let go of Piper, who was now calm, and squeezed Leo in his arms in what Jason would call a “hug”, but what I would call a “Boa Constrictor trying to kill me”. Percy was standing close behind Jason, but his eyes were elsewhere. He was staring at Leo’s female companion. And she was staring back. Annabeth noticed this, too, and walked up behind Percy, placing a protective hand on his bicep.
“Calypso!” Percy said, surprise and shock seeping into his voice. Wasn’t Calypso said to be stranded on an island prison? Calypso broke her gaze from Percy and looked at Annabeth.
“You must be Annabeth,” Calypso said in a cheery voice. “I’ve heard much about you.” Calypso held out her hand for Annabeth to shake.
Annabeth looked up at Percy, who was looking away, his face completely red. Annabeth took Calypso’s hand, a huge smile growing on her face. Hazel, Frank, and Reyna, who had been completely silent up until now, ran towards Leo. Reyna and Frank both had a hint of a smile on her face while Hazel was still crying. I followed the three of them, and Will followed me, his hand falling off my shoulder, but we stayed a couple feet behind them. I allowed a small smile to show on my face as I watched Hazel and Leo hug before she went back to Frank’s side. Both Roman praetors shook hands with Leo. Leo turned to me, a look of surprise on his face.
“Is that a smile I see, Nico?” Leo teased.
“I smiled a lot when you were gone,” I replied, replacing my grin with a smirk. Leo smiled and clapped me on the back before looking up at Will. He had to crane his neck to be able to see his face since Will was so tall. That was something I had gotten used to over the past months.
“Wait a second,” Leo said. “I remember you. You’re the counselor of the Apollo Cabin, right? You were the one who showed me all around camp when I got here.”
“That’s me,” Will said, “but I now have another title.” Both Leo and I looked at Will in confusion. A mischievous smile danced across his lips. “Nico’s boyfriend,” he whispered so that nobody else but Leo and I could hear him. Leo’s eyes went wide as his mouth formed an “O”. My face went red as I covered it with both my hands.
“Oh. OH.” Leo said, finally understanding the whole meaning of what Will said, meaning he realized that both of us were gay.
“Nice to have you back, Mr. Spock,” Will said. Leo smiled as they apparently shared some sort of inside joke. Leo left us alone and walked back over to Calypso’s side. I turned around and glared at Will. He just smiled back down at me.
“Will!” someone shouted from the left. Everyone moved to look at the speaker, including me and Will. Will saw who it was and frowned.
“I’ll be right back,” Will said, grabbing my hand and squeezing it once. Somehow, that little contact still made skeletal butterflies resurrect in my stomach. He ran towards Apollo.
I watched them argue for a while, both of them throwing their hands in the air with red faces. Will finally gave up and walked back over to me.
“We need to talk,” he told me, gritting his teeth angrily.

If you didn't remember, Will called Leo "Mr. Spock" when Will showed Leo around camp after he was claimed by "Vulcan"/Hephaestus. So that's where the "inside joke" came from.
