The Beginning Of Solangelo

Nico’s POV
“There’s no way I’m going to let you go alone,” I said, shocked at what Apollo was forcing Will to do.
“Nico, I’m flattered and all, and I would love for you to come along with me, but Apollo won’t allow it. And I do not want to see Apollo mad. Or any god mad, for that matter.” Will said, rubbing the back of his neck.
I let out a long sigh. “So, do you know when you leave?”
Will pondered his answer for a moment. “I don’t know. I was so frustrated and angry that I forgot to ask. I would guess as soon as possible, though.”
“Tomorrow, Will!” a voice called out. I turned my head and noticed that it was Apollo. Was he listening to our conversation? Could he really hear it from so far away? I looked back at Will and could see that he was wondering the same things that I was. His eyebrows were scrunched in confusion.
“What the-. Well, I guess I’m leaving tomorrow,” Will said with a slight frown.

All of the campers, Romans included, crowded at the tables to begin lunch. The initial surprise of having Leo back has long left everyone. Calypso is constantly surrounded by younger and new campers, whose idea of the novelty of the gods hasn’t been quenched. The Greek and Roman campers are acting like old friends without a trace of the original hostility that they had met and almost fought over and because of.
Sitting at the Hades table was the seven of the prophecy, plus me, Reyna, Will, Calypso, Cecil, and Lou Ellen.
Chiron trotted up to the front of the pavilion, calling all of our eyes to his attention.
“There will be a Capture-the-Flag game after dinner tonight. Please plan accordingly.” With that short message, Chiron left us alone and went back to eating his own lunch.
“Romans versus Greeks?” Percy asked.
“No way,” Annabeth said. “We’re going girls against boys.” All of the girls nodded their heads in agreement, while Jason and Percy looked wary of the idea.
“Fine,” Jason finally said. “You’re going down!” Jason and Percy laughed and gave each other high fives. All of the girls at our table, Reyna, Annabeth, Hazel, Piper, Calypso, and Lou Ellen, all rolled their eyes. Reyna and Annabeth got up from the table, telling us that they were going to spread the word of the teams for the game. Once they made their rounds, they sat back down at the table.
After a few minutes of random joking, Jason gathered the attention of all of us.
“So, Leo,” he began. “We never found out how you survived.”
Leo’s face lights up as he begins to talk about the explosion, his death, his revival due to the Physician’s Cure, flying off to save Calypso, traveling the world on Festus, and eventually coming back to camp. Throughout his story, Piper kept hitting him on his arm each time he said that he did something stupid or hurt her feelings. Jason made sure to always step in before Piper got too mad, though.
The rest of lunch passed uneventfully. The girls went to go discuss strategy of some sort, and the boys went to go sword fight or something like that. I honestly really didn’t pay attention to them much. Will left to go to the infirmary despite my protests.
“But it’s your last day at camp!” I had said. Will’s face fell. I realized that I had made it sound like Will wasn’t going to come back; that he was going to die. “I mean, it’s your last day at camp before you leave for your quest.”
Will gave me a weak smile. “Alright, Darlin’,” Will said with that southern drawl of his. “What do you want me to do today?” I told Will to follow me as I ran off in the direction of the cabins. I had the feeling that the rest of the boys who were sitting at the Hades table this morning were in the Poseidon cabin. And I was right.
We spent the rest of the day, up until dinner, hanging out with Percy, Jason, and the rest of the boys. We did a little sword fighting and other contests that teenage boys always seem to get too competitive about.
When dinner finally rolled around, I was glad to be able to walk to the pavilion, hand-in-hand with Will, which was a big challenge for me. I felt like everyone was staring at us when we walked up. And Will knew it was a big step up for me, too. He had slowly inched his hand closer and closer to mine as we were walking up and had finally intertwined his fingers with mine. Will kept glancing over at me to make sure that I was okay. I had squeezed his hand to reassure him that I was fine.

The conch horn blew. Percy and Jason rushed ahead into the girls’ territory. I went around on the right side. Capture-the-Flag had begun.

The game took all of three minutes. The girls were able to quickly locate our flag and break the thick line of defense surrounding it. After Reyna snagged the flag and ran it back over the line, cheers erupted all throughout the forest. Everyone ran out of the forest, the girls taunting the boys.
“Holy Hera,” Percy swore. “How’d you do that?”
Annabeth just shook her head and started laughing, running away from Percy. “You’ll have to catch me,” she said.
Percy chased after her, eventually catching her and scooping her up in his arms. He planted a kiss on her forehead and sat her down on the ground. Annabeth grabbed hold of Percy’s face and pulled him down for a long kiss on the lips. When Annabeth pulled away, Percy’s face was red and his eyes were open wide.
Will turned to me, a smirk on his face. “Hey Nico, ‘Holy Hera. How’d you do that?’” he asked, quoting Percy. I blushed and shoved him.

Will’s POV
The next day at lunch, I walked into the pavilion a few minutes later than everybody else, a backpack slung over my shoulder.
“Where are you going, Will?” Jason asked, concern flashing across his face.
“Oh,” I started, quickly trying to come up with a lie. “It’s just a quick run out for some infirmary stuff.” Jason and the others seemed to buy the lie, seeing as they all nodded their heads in unison. “So I’ll see you guys later. Bye, Neeks,” I said with a little wave to Nico. I began to walk away.
“Wait,” Nico squeaked. He jumped out of his seat and ran over to me. I tried to form the word “what”, but before I knew what he was doing, Nico had grabbed the front of my shirt and pulled me down. I tried to say “what” again, but Nico was too quick. He was already pressing his lips to mine. I closed my eyes and clasped my hands together behind Nico’s neck. I couldn’t believe Nico was kissing me. In public! In front of the whole camp!
Nico pushed me away and wiped his lips. “Be safe,” he said, gruffly.
I smirked at him. “I will,” I promised. I gave the rest of the campers a slight wave and walked down to Thalia’s tree. The last view of the Dining Pavilion I had was of Nico standing all by himself in the grass, his arms crossed in front of his chest, with Jason silently jumping up and down, waving his arms around, in the background.
I already missed Nico.
