The Beginning Of Solangelo

“There you are, m’boy!” a familiar voice called from up on shore. I pulled my lips away from Nico’s and saw that Nico was blushing as red as a tomato. I looked up and took in my father, standing there with hands on his hips and a huge smile on his face. “I went looking for you in the Infirmary, but you weren’t there, obviously. I should’ve known you would be with Hades’ kid,” Apollo continued.
I frowned at him and crossed my arms. “What do you want?” I asked. “Are you here to send me on another suicide mission by myself?”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa!” Apollo said, holding his hands out in front of him in a sort of ‘calm down’ pose. “I just wanted to say thank you and tell you that I’m proud of you.”
“Oh,” I replied, uncrossing my arms. “It was no problem,” I sarcastically huffed.
“Okay,” Apollo began. “I can take a hint. I’ll leave you two alone, to whatever it is that you are going to do in the lake.” And, with a wink, Apollo walked off towards the Big House.

I pulled myself up onto shore and, once I was on the grass, I helped Nico out of the water. We lay on our backs in the sunshine for a few minutes before a big group of demigods came walking up to us. We heard them before we saw them, to say the least. They were all laughing and talking quickly and loudly.
I cracked open my eyes to get a peek at who the demigods were. I was presented with the picture of Cecil, Lou Ellen, Percy, Annabeth, Jason, Piper, Frank, Hazel, Reyna, Leo, Calypso, and many, many more demigods behind them walking up towards us. It looked like the whole camp; all the Roman demigods included, had gathered in a big group and were walking around. Nico was now sitting up too. He had the hint of a smile on his face.
I leapt up and grabbed his crutches and helped Nico stand up and stay steady. The campers were now running towards us at full speed. It was definitely a sight to see.
When the demigods surrounded us, I lost sight of Nico in all of the noise and bodies moving around. I was hugged and clapped on the back more times than I could count. Eventually, I big group of my half-siblings (on Apollo’s side, of course) lifted me up in the air and started cheering. I wanted to wonder how they knew that the Oracle had been freed, if that’s what they were celebrating me for, but I was too caught up in the moment to care.
The other Apollo kids finally set me back on the ground and the cheering slowly died out. The crowd thinned around me as kids starting moving back towards the Dining Pavilion, where I’m guessing that food is set out. I guess we’re having the party that the Romans came for now.
After searching the crowd for ten minutes, I eventually caught sight of Nico. I rushed over to him. He was standing with the seven from the prophecy, Reyna, Cecil, Lou Ellen, and Calypso. Leo was making some joke, at which Piper was laughing and Calypso was rolling her eyes, but Percy wasn’t listening. He was talking with a satyr and a nymph.
The people standing all around Nico congratulated me, even though they already had. Like they all had communicated via telepathy, they all turned and started walking to the Dining Pavilion, where everybody else already was. Nico and I followed closely behind them.
The party went on for a long time. In order to make sure that I didn’t lose Nico in the noisy crowd, I never left his side. The party was really fun despite being thrown together at a moment’s notice.
Nico and I ended up just moving around the party talking to everybody, yet at the same time, only really talking to each other, if you can understand what I mean. The conversations that I had with Nico were really the only ones that I truly cared about.
Well, no, I take that back. That makes me sound like I don’t care about anyone else. I do care. What I mean is that the small talk of ‘Cool party, bro. Oh yeah, and thanks for getting the Oracle back’ were less important to me than when I was talking to Nico. It wasn’t the people; it was the mindless babble that I didn’t care about.
I also take that back. There was one other conversation that I cared about, one with Rachel, but I’ll get into that later because I want to describe Nico because I love him and I feel like talking about him.
About an hour into the party, I could see that Nico was getting really tired, so I decided to find us somewhere to sit down. I pointed him to one of the tables, and we sat down, right next to Clovis, who was unsurprisingly sleeping with his head in his arms on the table.
“Are you okay?” I asked over the music that had mysteriously appeared out of nowhere. I suspect that it was a combination of the Apollo and Hermes kids, a combination of the Apollo’s kids love for music and the Hermes’ kids love for shoplifting and breaking the rules.
Nico nodded as he leaned his crutches up against the table. I took one of Nico’s hands in my own. His eyes met mine.
“I never got to properly thank you,” I said with a smile.
“For what?” Nico asked, a slight smile on his face as well.
“For saving my life. I never would have been able to defeat Python if it wasn’t for you,” I replied, beginning to lean in. Nico smiled a little wider.
“Oh, I don’t doubt that, Solace,” Nico said, also leaning toward me.
I began to protest with a ‘Hey’, but before I could, Nico was pressing his lips against mine and I was not going to let Nico’s recent aptitude for showing affection in public go to waste.
“Will!” a girl said, rather loudly from behind me. Wow, I thought. That’s the second time today that our kisses have been interrupted. What does a guy have to do to catch a break?
I turned around and saw Rachel Elizabeth Dare standing there. I felt like I hadn’t seen her in forever, which isn’t saying much because I felt like I hadn’t seen all of the campers here in forever.
“Thanks for freeing the Oracle!” she said. “I felt the Oracle come back to me and all of the Apollo kids were able to heal again.”
“No problem, Rachel. How are you?” I asked. Oh no! Why did I ask her a question! All campers know that we aren’t allowed to ask Rachel anything because-
Rachel bent over like she had been punched. She gasped really loudly and the whole party surprisingly went silent as everybody’s eyes turned to her. Rachel stood up straight again, her eyes glowing green, eerily reminding me of Python.
When Rachel began to speak, it sounded as if three of her were talking at once. She said:
“Five mighty heroes will need no aid,
As they face destruction Chaos has made.
A child of death and son of sea,
Two out of the five need to be.
A loved one’s lie,
Shall cause two to die.
With money and riches if they prevail,
Or world domination should they fail.”
“You have got to be kidding me,” Percy said, throwing his arms in the air.
