Of Vines and Men

Mae handed me a bowl of cereal, and I sat down with everyone. The cereal looked like a cheap version of Lucky Charms, but I was too hungry to care. After a few mouthfuls I began to wonder why these three were working with Luke. Joseph seemed to be no older than thirteen, and it made my heart drop.

"So, why did you guys decide to help Luke?" I asked after a moment of thought, looking at all three of them. Joseph tensed up, but Mae went to blurt out her reasoning.

"The gods have never done anything for me. Hell, they've ruined my life." She snapped, going back to her food. Karen nodded at Mae.

"Same boat." Karen answered, and I truly looked at her. Blonde hair, green eyes, and a nice tan. They looked like complete opposites. They had a point, but I still held my ground. Sure, the way the gods run things now is bad, but it could get so much worse with Luke and Kronos running things.

"Are you helping us?" Mae asked, unsure of where I stood. Of course I would go against Kronos and Luke. I mean, the life I had was amazing. My friends were always there for me. They were probably looking for me right then.

"I don't think I am. I'm unsure though." I lied, looking down. Behind me I could hear the door open and a bag fall onto the floor. Karen looked up and gave a big smile at whoever just walked in.

"Hey, do you guys still have any of those burgers left?" I heard a voice say. It seemed familiar, bouncing around in my head. Whoever it was had begun walking father away, and Karen leaned towards me.

"Ok, so, he's one of Aphrodite's kids. Let me say, she has probably the hottest kids ever, and he is no exception. Except he supposedly has a girlfriend. But where is she? No where. So, would it be bad if I made a move?" She started rambling, and I furrowed my eyebrows.

"I have no idea. I've never dated anyone. Or wanted to. Or had a crush. But, if he has a girlfriend you should lay off." I frowned, looking her over for a second.

"Oh, you party pooper," Karen rolled her eyes and stood up. She began to walk the way the guy had gone, "Cal! I think we do have some left over." She called, and I felt like I was going to throw up. The bowl dropped from my hands and spilled over the carpet, and my heart started pounding.

He was working with them. Calum was working with Luke.
