I look out into the clouds, thinking. I hardly notice Fang coming up next to me, until he speaks. "Max!" he says, exasperated, "What are you doing?! We've been calling your name for hours!"

"Oh..." I say, swooping downwards to land. "C'mon! We're landing for some food!" I call to the flock. We fly down to a Wendy's. Ocean, our newest escapee from the School and flock member and ex-mortal, always has money on her --because she's just now been turned 'mutant'-- gets out her wallet and asks, "Who's hungry? My treat!", sending a cheer from the whole flock, even Fang.

After we tuck our wings in, we head inside. We order at the counter, then find a booth. Me, Fang, and Ocean on one side, Iggy, Gazzy, and Angel on the other. I notice Ocean look around, then obviously spot someone she knows. "Um..." she says, her confidence gone, "Excuse me." She runs to the restroom. Fang starts to get up. "No," I say, "Fang stay here, I'll go."

"Ocean," I say, "Let me in!" I hear someone shift inside.

"Leave me BE!" Ocean says. I try the door, locked.

"I'm going nowhere!" I hear Ocean walk up to the door. The lock clicks. I open the door. Ocean's face is red, her eyes puffy and bloodshot from crying. "Are you okay?" I ask, gently, stroking her black hair.

"Guess," she says solemnly, "I saw my p-p-parents." She bursts into tears.

"Sh." I say, "Oh Ocean. It'll be alright. You're okay. You're safe with us. Your parents were the one who gave you to the School. You're not safe with them, okay. Remember that." She nods. "Now wash up." I say.

In the restaurant, the flock is finished with their meal, and are waiting for us. We head outside, going to a slightly more remote location to take off. In the air, Fang flies over to me. "What happened?" he asks.

"I'll tell you when we get to wherever we're going," I say, "Right now, we need to look after everyone."

Notes

First chapter up, finally! I'll get to the whole Percy Jackson part in the next chapter or so. Sorry in advance if I can't get the chapter up in a month or so, I'm really busy with school and all that crap!
