The Life of Zander Hamilton

Chapter 1

My name is Zander Hamilton. I’m seventeen years old, I am 6’3”, I’m pretty fit, I have brown hair and brown eyes, I was raised in Longview, Washington, and I never knew who my father was. He left my mom before I was born, but I can understand why now, he’s a god. One of the twelve Olympian gods of Greek mythology. “Which one,” you may ask. That I don’t know. He has yet to claim me.

I live at a place called Camp Half-Blood, its camp for people like me, half-bloods, one half human and one half god. Camp is located on Long Island, New York, normally I would be worried about monsters finding us but they found us a couple years ago during the never ending war between the two of us.

There are a couple hundred people at camp but there are only a few other half-bloods that haven’t been claimed yet, but their all under ten. They usually get claimed within their first week. I was not so lucky. Even after Percy Jackson, the only human son of Poseidon, saved Olympus and made the gods promise to claim their children by the age of thirteen, I had not been claimed. But gods are very busy and forgetful of their children so I don’t take any offense from it.

I was in the arena with Percy learning how to become better swordsman. Who better to learn from then the best? I was in mid thought and must have made a slight mistake because within seconds he knocked my sword out my hand and knocked me to the ground.

“You ok Zander? You seem a little out of it today.” He said.

“I’m fine, just thinking about my dad.” I replied.

“You really shouldn’t dwell on it, I’m sure you’ll be claimed soon.”

“You’ve been saying that since you saved Olympus.”

“You know if I didn’t know you used to live with your mother I’d say you were a son of Athena.” He said.

“Right.” I said mockingly

In fact, I actually wish that it was true; it would take lot off my mind. Of course, it wasn’t. As he said, when I wasn’t at camp, I lived with my mother Jennifer, and my step-father Steven Thompson. Of course, they didn’t know I was a demigod. When I returned home with yet another scar I would have to tell them that I fell of something and hurt myself. Then they would tell me I should stop going to this camp on the other side of the country and needed to stay home more. I would stay home more if it was safe, but I can’t. There are a lot of monsters out there in the world that can smell demigod from miles away. I have to keep them safe so I go to boarding schools during the school year away from my mom, and during the summer I go to camp.

Percy poured a bottle of water over his head, being the son of the sea god he like water a little too much. “Have you ever like, done the math and tried to figure out who he is?” Percy asked as he tossed me a bottle of water.

“Yeah, I have but I came up with nothing.” I replied

“Well, give me what you got.”

I let out a short sigh before saying, “Sure, why not.” I held out my index finger.

“First, I thought he was maybe Ares, I mean I’m a good fighter. People tell me all the time that the only people that are better than me with a sword are you, Jason, maybe even Clarisse. But that was shot down almost instantly when I remembered they were all real jerks.” I explained before Percy spoke up.

“Franks not a jerk, you remember him, right?” he asked, of course I did. Frank Zhang was a son of Mars, the Roman version of Ares, one of the seven of the last great prophecy along with Percy; Annabeth Chace, daughter of Athena; Jason Grace, son Jupiter; (Roman version of Zeus) Piper McLean, daughter of Aphrodite; Hazel Lévesque, daughter of Pluto; (Roman version of Hades) and Leo Valdez, son of Hephaestus.

I thought about this for a second before I replied. “True,” I said, “But Frank is a son Mars not Ares. You and I both know that the gods have different personalities based on the side the story you look at.”

“You got me, continue.” He said.

“Thank you, second,” I said pointing my middle finger out with the index, “I considered being a son of Apollo, I like music and I like to sing sometimes, plus I play multiple instruments. But I decided it wasn’t him either. I have both no skill with a bow and look nothing like any of his other kids.”

I went on like this for a good thirty minutes. Replaying the things I had told myself a thousand times before. Hermes, no; Apollo, no; Dionysus, thank gods no.

“So, what are going to do now?” He asked with hint of concern in voice.

“I’m guessing wait with cabin eleven until someone does claim me.”
