Icy Heart: An Alex Greyson Story

Instead of thinking some rational thoughts about growing giant purple wings, I said the first thing that came into head. “You knew?” I asked, looking Chiron directly in the eyes.
“Yes I had my suspicions Alex, but I couldn’t tell you anything before your father claimed you.
“Claimed me?”
“By giving you his blessing, Lord Boreas has taken responsibility for you and your future actions as a demigod. It’s a pretty important moment for every demigod.”
“Wonderful,” I said sarcastically, “How am I supposed to sit down?”
“Why don’t you give it a try?”Responded Chiron with a knowing smile.
I sat down in the chair normally and the purple monstrosities passed right through the chair. I turned around to see that they were fading out of existence, like a ghost. They became more and more transparent before finally disappearing altogether. So there go my hopes of flying. Everyone else around the ping pong table sat down as well. “So what do we do now?” asked Connor.
“Well,” Malcolm said, “I’m pretty sure we know who the son of wind is now.”
Everyone else began to discuss other parts of the very recent prophecy and a possible authorized quest while I tried to process what I had just heard. So my missing dad is Boreas. He is one on the Anemones or something like that. That’s it the Anemoi. They were the Greek spirits of the four winds each from a different cardinal direction. Boreas is the spirit of the north wind and the bringer of winter. I guess that makes sense with my mom’s background and my ice meltdown when I got to camp, well as much sense as anything at this insane camp. Piper, who had been silent the whole time the others were talking, now cleared her throat to speak. “What makes all of you think it’s him? He just arrived in camp a week ago and has yet to do anything noteworthy other than his dramatic entrance. In case you all forgot, Boreas fought against us and with the giants last summer. Now he sends us his son to spy on us. He’s not the one for this quest.”
“Piper,” Chiron said, “Boreas is fully on our side, along with all the other minor gods who were persuaded to fight against us. In fact, just this fall Jason is planning on making a shrine in New Rome for Aeolus and all his Anemoi.”
“Also remember,” said Nico, “that Boreas was just acting under orders from Aeolus and both of them were being whispered to by Khione, the only one to actually switch to Gaea’s side.”
Piper muttered something under her breath, «le père de putain»
«Je ne pense pas mon père aimerais tu parles de lui comme ça.» I snapped back at her.
«Est-ce que tu parles le Français? »
« Oui, apparemment je fais »
“English please,” said Travis with a sigh.

“Oh it was nothing,” Piper lied.
Chiron stood up to speak. “Well the only thing we can do is leave it up to a vote. We have seen two possible subjects of the prophecy and we may have other alternative options. So will everyone who believes that Alex should lead this quest raise his or her hand?”
I looked around the room and counted about 10 hands raised. I didn’t get an exact number but I knew it would be close. Travis and Connor were both raising their hands along with some others I knew, like Grace, Lou Ellen, Malcolm, and surprisingly Nico and Clarisse both. When Chiron called for Jason’s votes I noticed a similar numbers of hands raised. Piper’s hand was the first to shoot up but she was followed by Jake Mason, Will, Miranda, and others. “By a narrow margin of 12 to 10, the council has chosen Alex Greyson, son of Boreas to lead this quest.”
Hmm, I didn’t know the first thing about leading a quest and my necklace gained a hefty weight to it. I wasn’t going to tell anyone that though. They trusted me and believed in me so I would try to do right by them. I tried to sound much more confident than I was. “So when do I leave?”
