Forgotten

Chapter 1

When I was six, I knew my brother was going to die. The worst choice I ever made in my life is telling my mom. He was eight at the time and very adventurous. She locked him in his room and he wasn’t allowed to leave the house. She even baby proofed the house, but nothing can stop the fates.
When I was eight, my brother snuck out of the house and was killed by a monster. I didn’t see the it, but I was the one to find his body. He was mangled and looked terrible. His father cursed me.
You see, we’re the children of the gods and humans. My brother, sister and I all have different dads, who are each gods, Greek gods to be exact, but we have the same mother. My brother’s father cursed me to never be able to know my family again. They’d know about me, but only the me I was before I was cursed. After that, I became a stranger. I tried to go home, but they just thought I was some random stranger in their house.
I ran away that night. Leaving my sister and mother alone. I never did tell my mother she was next to die.
Late one night about two months after I had ran away, I found two charm bracelets in the old abandoned building I was staying in. They were both gold and I put one on each hand. After putting them on, I figured out that they wouldn’t come off. I freaked and was about to cry when I pulled on one of the charms and it came off, turning into a sword. I almost cried out, dropping the sword, and it disappeared, but the charm was back on my bracelet. I kept the bracelets, and they became my greatest weapon.
I tried to sleep that night in the old abandoned building, but I was woken up by a dream. I didn’t remember much, but what I did remember scared the living daylights out of me.

Four Shall Go South
To Retrieve The Forgotten
Revealed In Pain

I awoke, startled with what I had just dreamed. The faces of the people had faded, but the words still hung in my mind. It had only been six months since I had run away from home, and I was still unfound. Was I the Forgotten? Everyone had seemed to forget about me.
I heard voices outside the window and took a quick glance outside. Four bodies were heading towards my hiding place in this old forgotten building. I ran into one of the two bedrooms, and hid in the closest. The voices entered the building and were starting to explore. It was only a matter of time until I was found.
Someone came into the bedroom that I was in and started looking around. I could hear the big clunky foot steps crunching on the dead wood. It was a man, tall and strong by the sound of it. He checked around the room, and I could even hear him lift the bed skirt to check under the bed. He wanted to know if him and his friends were safe in the building or not. He walked towards the closest, and I took a step backwards.
Big mistake.
I stepped on a piece of wood that squeaked, but I was careful not to make any other noises, but it was too late. I could hear the slow hiss of him pulling a sword out, and he started messing with the handle. I pulled it tight, but I knew that wouldn’t help much.
I pulled out the biggest weapon from my charm bracelet, a double sided ax that I could barely lift. I wasn’t going to fight with it, it was just to scare the person. I held it out, ready to strike at whoever opened the door.
Eventually the door opened, and there stood a tall man, about age eighteen. He held his sword with his right hand while he opened the door with his left. His eyes opened wider than I had ever seen a human’s eyes open at the sight of my ax. Then he realised I was a little girl and the ax was less threatening.
“Hey guys, I found something.” He yelled to the others. I wouldn’t be able to take down four at once, so my best chance was to take him down and hope I could handle three at a time instead.
I pounced at the man, quickly exchanging one charm for another, and in my hand I held a dagger, about four inches long and completely gold, even the handle. I surprised him enough to knock him on the ground so I could hold the dagger to his neck.
“Dude, whats up?” Another guy said as he walked into the room with two girls. They went through a moment of shock before pulling out their weapons. “Put it away and we won’t hurt you.” He growled at me.
“It seems as though you're in the wrong position to be making that request. Put your weapons away or I’ll gut him alive.” I ordered. They probably wouldn’t take me too seriously since I was so small, even with a dagger to their friend’s neck, but it was worth a try.
“Look honey, we mean no harm. We’re like you.” One of the girls said, her voice soft and caring. I made the mistake of trusting her. The guy I had pinned realized I had relaxed a little, and used this opportunity to change the tides, flipping me over and pinning me. I gasped as my head hit the ground.
“Did you have to do that so hard? She is just a child.” The other girl said. Her voice was stern, and only showed a few signs of concern. She was less interested in me and more interested in who I was.
“She had a giant ax when I found her.” The guy pinning me said. I growled at him. “So whats your name girl? I’m Adam.”
“Alice.” I told him as I struggled to get out of his grip.
“Let her up Adam.” The kind girl ordered. Once Adam got off me, she helped me up and introduced herself. “I’m Charlotte.”
“I’m Alex.” The other boy said. He looked weak but with his curly hair and glasses, he looked like a college scholar.
“Megan.” The other girl said. She looked like she was someone you didn’t want to mess with.
“So what are you doing here Alice?” Charlotte asked me as soon as Adam let me up. I didn’t know if I should tell her the truth or not.
“I ran away from home.” I told her. I figured the truth would be the best way to go, but I wouldn’t tell her everything.
“Well, since you have weapons, you must be a demigod.” Alex said.
“A who-se-ma-mawigit?” I asked, confused. Alex explained to me that demigods were children of the Greek or Roman gods and humans.
“Okay, well that explains why I’ve never met my father.” I said.
“Alice, I know this is kind of off topic, but how old are you?” Megan asked me.
“I’m eight.” I told her.
“Well, I guess we can take her back to the head mistress. I don’t know what we will do with her, but we can’t just leave her here.” Megan said.
“But for now, she can join us on our quest.” Charlotte said with a smile.
“But the prophecy didn’t say anything about a fifth member.” Alex argued.
“I think we’ll be fine. Besides, we can’t just leave her here alone.” Megan said.
“I love how you guys talk about me like I’m not even here.” I said in my most sarcastic
voice.

We kept traveling south, careful not to be seen by any adults who would question why four teenagers were traveling with an eight year old. We were in Texas before we realised that we shouldn’t have come here.
We were found by a Cyclops. He was big, ugly, and needed to brush his teeth really badly. He wore a leotard that fit him in all the wrong places, making me want to hurl.
We were going to have to fight him. There was no other way out of the valley besides going through him. He advanced on us, laughing.
“You come at me, four teen agers and a forgotten child.” He laughed. I dug my nails into the palm of my hands. “That’s right! The child hasn’t told you about her curse! She’s been forgotten by everyone she has ever cared about!”
The others looked at me with wide eyes. I hadn’t told them about my curse, and was hoping they would never realise I was the Forgotten one.
“Look! I angered the child but ruining her secret!” He laughed.
I don’t remember what happened next. I remember screaming, so loud and so long that my throat hurt from it. A few moments later, everything went black.
