P.R.O.T.E.C.T (On Hold)

My fingers tighten around the ice cold metal of the head of the small pistol in my hand. My pointer finger bouncing on the trigger, ready, waiting to pull. I balance steadily on my new black six inch heels. My tongue flicks out and I wet my lips and with my free hand I push my long dark brown hair from my face. As I watch from the shadows I observe every aspect of the target. From her short black hair to her piercing green eyes. She sits there unsuspecting of anything out of her normal routine, not knowing of me being right in her living room a mere five meters away.

I line her up with the gun and shoot. A loud bang echoes the room and the now lifeless body of Mary K Fairfax falls to the floor with a thud, blood seeps into the carpet and pools around her. Her piercing green eyes now only hold death.

TARGET ELIMINATED

"Well done Agent Moreno, your target was efficiently killed and 'missplaced' in the forest." My young Italian boss, Steve congratulates me. "When I recruited you I knew that you were going to be great." He muses as he plonks down on his desk chair and pulls his laptop closer. His office has a strange feeling of being trapped. He's got not much space due to low ceilings and concrete walls. Thus all because we are in fact located underneath the Whitehouse. Yes you heard me right, under the Whitehouse. P.R.O.T.E.C.T works for the government so they provide everything for us.

"Thank you sir." I reply curtly.

"Now for a new mission," He starts off with before I roll my eyes in a 'but I just got back!' Way. Hr ignores me and continues. "There is a serial killer on the lose. The person has killed countless people and burnt them in a forest, sort of like Ivan Milat but they're not all backpackers," He tells me and I am a little excited, I've never been assigned to a serial killer. He see the little excitement in my face to and grimaces. "There's just one problem, Hope, it's happening in your hometown." He says that one sentence and my heart literally drops faster than a gunshot. A serial killer in my hometown. How? Why? Who? Do I know them? This is crazy.

"So why me?" I ask the first suitable thing that comes to my mind. Suitable meaning not containing any swear words or anything that he may find even the slightest offensive.

"Because you have knowledge of the area, you grew up there, the town cried for months when you 'died' two years ago. I thought you might like to see it again." He tells me but even he knows that he's wrong. Why would I want to see that place again? Sure the place had it's good times and good people but most of the time it was horrible. To say the least I hated it there. Not saying that I wanted to become an assassin or anything, I didn't want to 'die' I just wanted to be happy.

"I guess that I am the best option for the job." I sulk to him, "I hope I'm getting good pay." I challenge him.

"Of course, Hope don't I always pay you well?" He asks with a smile.

This guy though. The worst thing is that he's 21 and actually quite attractive. He's quite hard to hate even when I really want to. "Yes." I sulk with a smile growing on my face.

"Good, for this mission you will be joined by Lucas and I." He says and my mouth drops open. Him. Him. I repeat HIM. He distracts me and he's my boss and I pretty sure his last mission was at least a year ago, before he was made the big boss.

"Y-You?" I stutter still not believing it.

"Yes me." He says like he feels a little insulted. Well to be honest I would be insulted to. "So why don't you tell me about your past life and town so I can get a better picture the mission."
