Knowledge is Power

Chapter 6

“You think?” he asks.

“Yeah.”

We arrive at the nurse’s office. I sit down on the bed. He explains what happened which I can’t remember happening. She gives him what I assume is a pass back to class. He smiles then leaves. She asks me a couple questions then does a couple tests on me. She says my memory will be back in a few days, and that I should rest at home.

When my mom picks me up, she tells me that ambrosia will help. Ii can remember that I’m a demigod and everything, just not the everyday stuff. We get to what is my house. I eat a yellow square which tastes like sweet cherries. I still don’t remember anything.

“It didn’t work. I don’t remember.”

My mom says, “Will will know what to do. I’m sure he has something that will help.”

We get in the car and arrive at camp half-blood. Will does a test then gives me a green pill to swallow. I gulp it down with a glass of water.

I drop to my knees, and grab my throat. The burning sensation hurts to much.

“Kendra!” my mom yells. I hear Lucas yell too.

I roll on my back holding my throat.

“Will! Do something!” Lucas yells.

“Don't worry! This is supposed to happen,” Will says casually.

I feel like I'm going to gag, but I have never had a gag reflex.

The searing pain goes into my chest. I eventually pass out.

When I awake, I am laying on a bed, in the Hermes cabin? I lay there for a second before drinking the whole cup of nectar beside me on the nightstand.

I think back to why I am here. Oh, yeah. I lost my memory when I bumped into that guy. I think he was a freshman. Then I got here, ate that pill then passed out.

My throat itches and sounds scratchy when I try talking.

I lay back knowing Lucas will be back with breakfast since it's about eight, and he's the only kid in the Hermes cabin during the summer.

Lucas enters with a plate full of eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, and a bagel. “About time you woke up. You’ve been out for two days.”

“Two days?”

“Yup. Will said it would take three to four days for you to wake up, but I guess not.”

“I see,” I say eating the bagel.

“Does your throat still hurt?” he asks.

“No,” I answer getting up realizing that someone changed my clothing from my nice clothes to an oversized camp half-blood t-shirt(probably Lucas’s) and a pair of pajama shorts. At least they didn't take my spandex off and see my underwear. I always wear them; not the same pair of course, but you know what I mean.

We talk for a little while about spring break and what I’m going to do. He has convinces me to tryout for softball and even go to the spring formal. After the dance, I’m going to go spend the week here with Lucas. I plan on leaving tomorrow to go back to school Monday. The good thing about this school is that I can still practice with my travel team while I play for the school. If I make cuts. Most likely I will. The travel team I play with called the New York Titans won the the national title with myself as the starting pitcher, and captain of the team. I was also voted MVP of the team. Not only am I a pitcher, but I am also a catcher and first baseman.

The next day I return home, and prepare myself for tomorrow. I pack my softball equipment into my bag then unpack everything too make sure that I have everything. I put my catcher’s gear in my catcher’s bag with my two catcher’s mitts. Then I organize everything else in my walkoff bag. I put both pair of cleats in the middle pouch. One pair is red, and one is black. I put my two sets of batting gloves in my helmet(one black, one red/white) along with my arm guard in the bottom pouch where I can easily access them. I open the main pouch in the top, and throw all my balls in. I put my glove in next then defensive facemask. I neatly organize it so I can fit my knee, and ankle braces in. (I have bad knees along with rolled in ankles. I also have scoliosis, but that is irrelevant.) I close the top, and zip everything up. Though I won’t need it, I put my eyeblack in a water bottle holder. Lastly, I slide both of my bats in the slots on the side then velcro my black cap to a tie.

Most of my stuff is red because my travel team’s colors are red, black, and white. Luckily, Our school colors are red and black. I pack my black Nike softball pants in a drawstring Nike bag with my black Nike socks and a softball championship shirt to tryout in. I put a Nike headband, brush and hair-tie in also. I almost forget to put my Nike pros in, and a sports bra. I also throw in a pair of white Nike roshe in. Most of my clothing and shoes are Nike because they are the team sponsor for the Titans.

I have six pairs of running shoes which are all Nike. All my shorts are nike except my jean shorts which are American Eagle, and my t-shirts are all basically Nike minus the ones from the Titans and other stuff.

The New York Titans are an organization of their own; they have a boys/girls volleyball team, boys/girls basketball, boys/girls soccer, boys/girls lacrosse, softball, baseball, competition dance, gymnastics, and competition cheerleading team. They also have a football team. I play for three of them: Softball, Volleyball, and Gymnastics. I could do competitive cheer if I wanted too. I might do cheer for school, next year though.

I hear mom call us in for dinner which is surprising because she doesn’t like cooking. I don’t usually eat what is cooked for the simple reason of that I’m allergic to gluten, so I usually eat a southern salad.

The next morning I get ready for school; I put a blue dress on with a white blazer over it. Of course I wear my spandex under. I curl my hair, and do my makeup then put white sapphire stud earrings in.

My mom takes me to school. I put my softball bags in the storage room by the locker rooms where all the other girls have their bags along with the baseball players. I talk to Carter and tell him I’m fine. At lunch I tell all the guys that I’m trying out. They cheer then say they’re all trying out for the baseball team. Carter is a pretty good baseball player; he plays second and center. He can play as long as he keeps his gpa up above a 2.5. That’s the requirement of the school. It’s risen a full point since I started tutoring him. It was a 1.8; now it’s a 3.02.

They all stop talking; Chase nudges Carter. He gets up, and unzips his jacket. On the shirt, it says Kendra, Formal with me?
