Inexperienced

Bonus chapter: I've got the magic in me

I am Anne, goddess of Arts and Sciences. Or at least, that is what they call me. I only found out
I was a goddess a few days ago. I also fell in love a few days ago.

I have no idea how to cope with it. Any of it.

~

'Hey, you there?' I blinked a few times to see my satyr-boyfriend waving his hand in front of my face.

'Yeah, yeah, I'm here. Bit distracted is all.'

Since I was a goddess, bits and pieces of information about what was going on in about a 20 mile radius were shooting into my brain, and it was increasing by the day. I had no idea how to filter, and sometimes it was hard to focus.

I smiled tiredly at him.

'What were you saying?' I asked.

'Well, I thought we could join the campfire sing-along tonight.' That got my attention, all right. I smiled wickedly at him.

'Oh, I can sing.'

~

I really love to sing, and have my entire life. The thing is, I almost never do it in front of other people. I have this severe case of stage fright that gets me shaking all over and makes my face all splotchy and red.

At least, that used to be the case. Now, I was captured by this new kind of boldness that enabled me not only to sing in front of people, but sing well, too. I was improvising, going low and high, making it sound wonderful in my ears.

I had a lot of fun, and for a while, it drove out the voices in my head (yes, I am still sane, I just suffer from new-godly-powers-and-no-idea-how-to-use-them-syndrome).

We stayed at the campfire until after the last camper had gone. Finally, Aloisyus went too, leaving me alone to stare in the flames. I had no intent to sleep. I felt like I didn't need it, and even if I did, I didn't think I could.

Now that the camp had grown silent, my head had gotten louder. I could sense the cleaning harpy's that swept around after curfew, but for some reason they didn't come near me. I could tell exactly who was sleeping where and in what position (creepy, yes, I know). I even could tell how the magical borders worked and feel the power surging from the Golden Fleece.

It was confusing as hell(if you consider hell to be confusing, which it isn't really).
I was trying to define what color the flames were(they were flickering in blues and greens and oranges, like they couldn't make up their mind), when a voice startled me.

'It's a lot to take in, isn't it?' A small girl in a simple brown dress, barefoot, was seated next to the fire, poking it with a stick.

'Hestia,' I said, remembering her. She smiled.

'So we meet again, Anne. Are you getting acquaintanced with your powers yet?'

I sighed. 'No. I feel like my brain's going to explode.' She chuckled.

'That might not be such a good idea. I can help you, if you want.' She send a flurry of sparks into the night air.

'Yes, I'd like that very much,' I said, hesitant at first.

'Okay, now look at me.' I did as she said, and noticed that there were flames burning inside her eyes, like tiny hearths. When she told me to close my eyes, I could still see them burning on the inside of my eyelids.

'A part of being a god is that you have too much essence to be contained in one vessel. Therefore, your essence, your spirit, is spread widely over the surrounding area, covering it like a blanket. Everything it touches, you can see, and you know all about it. You must learn to control it. '

'You should be able to stretch out that field of energy wide enough to cover the entire world, but it takes a lot of effort. Only Apollo can do that easily, because he is the god of the sun. You should also be able to concentrate your essence at multiple places, which would enable you to consist at multiple places at the same time.'

'When you do concentrate all your energy in you 'main vessel', your body, so to speak, you take on your true godly form. Mortals cannot look upon it, for they will disintegrate.'

'Now, imagine it being like a blanket, made out of elastic material. You can stretch it out, or prop it up. Imagine a place you know well, in your mind. Picture a jar, or a box, in which you can store something. Picture you putting most of your essence in there, like a liquid, or something else. You can take some out if you need it, but otherwise it is kept safely away.'
I opened my eyes again. My mind had come to rest.

'Thank you.' I smiled at her.

Dear mom,

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry I walked out on you and didn't contact you in any way. I'm writing to tell that I'm doing great. I'm still learning, but I'm getting better every day.

I'm taking water-bending classes with Percy, magic lessons with Hestia, Arts and Crafts with the Hephaestus cabin and music with the Apollo cabin. I'm learning about my powers more each day. I also have a boyfriend, Aloisyus.

I was hoping that maybe we can meet, so you can tell me more, about you, about me, etc. I did hate you for a while, but I understand you now, mostly.

Kisses,

Anne

Notes

Sorry for the enormously late update, but here it is: the bonus chapter. Now this fanfiction is completed. I hope you enjoyed it!

Wow, that last chapter gave me the feels. Can't wait for more, keep up the amazing work!

@A.D.R.
Thanks a lot, that means so much to me! Because this is my very first story, I'm still a bit insecure about writing. All the positive comments really encourage me, thanks to everyone for that. And it's good to know that my FCE in Cambridge English is paying off;).

I love this story; the plot line is very easy to follow. And ditto to what @Edge of Tartarus said; You have great grammar!
