Love

Care

The rest of the day went by quickly. Cassidy never got a chance to tell Syd about her dreams, as Syd was walking around doing chores. (This happened often. Syd was willing to, she always wanted to try to make friends.) So that night, Syd returned to her little cabin. She slept hard, but still had vivid dreams.
First, she was in a dark room. From the center came a flicker- then the room lit up a bit. It must have been a large room, because even with the light, you couldn’t see the walls. The floors were- well, it was dirt. But, she was definitely somewhere with walls.
There was no draft, and the air was stale. It smelled sickly sweet, and Syd wanted to leave as soon as she could. The light was coming from a match being held by Cassidy. Her face was dirty, and her eyes were wide.
Beside her was a sleepy-looking Janie. What was Janie doing there? “We have to find them,” Syd heard Cassidy say, “but where did they go?” Janie shook her head. “Cassie, I need to nap…” Cassidy nodded and sat down, making Janie sit beside her. “Okay, I’ll keep watch.”
The scene faded out, and Syd saw an old man, laying on his back. He had a water bottle at his side, and the cot under him was ripped. The walls were old, and clearly falling apart. Roots were growing through marble columns on one side of the room.
On the other side of the room was an opening. Out of it, she saw the outside. There was a forest, and they were so high up, she could make out the ocean, hundreds of miles away. She was brought out of the dream abruptly, though.
She woke up quickly, but decided to stay in bed a little longer. It must have been really early- there weren’t any birds chirping. What were those dreams? Dreams are usually pretty disturbing, but never so vivid…
Syd sat up. No way could she fall back asleep, plus, she might shower fast enough to watch the sun rise. So she got up, went to the restrooms, showered, dressed, and went back to her cabin. Still a bit too early.
Syd looked around. Her cabin was made of clear and rose quartz, though it wasn’t anywhere near as elegant as the Aphrodite cabin. Though, many people stayed in the Aphrodite cabin… Syd’s bunk was boring. She got to choose her bedding and stuff, so it was a pretty white with little green flower patterns.
On the wall by her bunk were a few pictures. There was her mom, in one picture. Just one. There were also pictures of beautiful woodlands. Other than that, her walls were bare. She crossed her legs. Now what?
She got up and decided to find somewhere high up. She still had around half an hour before the sun would begin to rise. If she found somewhere high up, it would be much prettier. So she walked out of her cabin and looked up.
Maybe she could climb her cabin? There were two thin marble columns, with not much thought or care put into them. They had hummingbird vine growing up there, because Syd planted them when she first got there, 6 years ago.
Syd found some rope, over by the Hephaestus cabin. She wrapped the rope around the back of the right column and began to climb. It wasn’t too hard, she trained often and had pretty good upper body strength.
When Syd reached her roof, she found something completely unexpected. The view was breathtaking. She figured it would be a little better than down below, but someone had clearly put thought into the placement of the cabin. Then Syd studied the actual roof that she was sitting on.
There was a picture of two people. They were held in an embrace, but growing as a tree. Or, maybe it was a tree that looked like two people holding each other. You couldn’t tell their gender, but one was definitely a bit shorter.
Did someone expect an Eros child to climb up here? Syd looked back up. The sky was turning brilliant pinks, purples, and in some places, oranges. The picture of the two lovers were multicolored in the quartz, shining as bright as Iris’s rainbows.
So Syd sat and watched the sun rise until it was completely above the horizon, showing off it’s bright glory. Syd knew that she’d have to get down soon. She noticed a silver hook, at the left end of the roof.
Syd took the rope that she had climbed the column with and tied it to the hook. People were meant to climb up to the roof. Syd let out a laugh. Thank the gods, someone, somewhere was thoughtful.
So Syd climbed down and went towards the dining pavilion, eager, now, to start the day.
