What I Once Was

Chapter 2

We waited. Thousands of campers sat and waited. The shine from the camp was gone. Everyone knew that he couldn't die, but he was in terrible condition.
Workers from the Apollo cabin moved in and out. They said nothing. That's how we knew it was bad.
A few demigods from the Demeter cabin collected wild herbs as medicine. Other campers started to sweep up the dust of the remains of the cyclops'. I wish that they didn't turn into dust, for then I could stab them and make them feel the pain that Chiron did. Of course, they were dead, it was useless now.
Everyone wished that someone would say something, to turn up the mood. A mouth could move, but that didn't mean any voice came out. So we waited.
Night came upon us. Some campers went to their cabins to get some sleep, not us. We stayed.
The next day came. The camp was still in silence.
Another day. More left.
Another day. They started training again.
Another day. Some people managed to talk to each other.
Another day. Everyone went back to their activities.
Not us.
Asphe and Bis wanted to leave. I knew they did. The thing was, I couldn't.
My stomach rumbled.
People would bring me food, but I barely ate.
Another day. Bismark and Asphe left.
I stayed. I don't know why. Maybe it was the guilt, the fact that it should've been me, but I stayed.
Asphe tried to convince me to come with her. She told me that sitting here wouldn't help anything. She was right, but whenever I moved the guilt consumed me.
So I stayed.
Just waiting.
Wondering.
Just waiting for news.

Notes

I know this chapter is short, but dialogue wouldn't have worked, which I needed for transition. Thanks!
