I stared at my clock, watching it slowly tick. I couldn't fall asleep. My parents would always say, count sheep, it will help. It didn't help. Counting useless things in life doesn't make you fall asleep. It helps as much as carrots help your eyesight. My eyes shifted to watch the boats silently pass my windows. Today wasn't a time for the bigger, louder boats. There were no waves on Lake Superior today. It was a calm day; the wonderful lake a still as a deer in headlights. The lake is what made me normally fall asleep. It was so peaceful, so wonderful. I started out the window and let it rock me to sleep. I felt my parents come in. My mom kissed my on the forehead. I felt a smile rising in my face, but I held it back waiting for them to leave. I then fell into a deep sleep.
I woke up, jumping on to the floor. I skipped over to my parents room in my Unicorn PJ's. I was about to bounce on their bed but I realized that they weren't there. I looked around their room.
They must be downstairs.
I ran down the stairs as fast as I could, but they weren't downstairs either. "Mom! Dad!" I called,"If you are hiding please come out!"
I looked outside. Their cars were still there. "MOM!" Nothing.
"Mommy, I'm scared. Daddy! Please come out!"
I looked around again, hoping to see them come out. "MOMMY, DADDY!" I wailed.
I ran over to the telephone and called my mom's number. I heard it ring and ran to it. Both of their cellphones were here. Maybe they walked to go get breakfast and forgot their phones. However, their wallets were also here. Everything of theirs was here.
Tears started to well up in my eyes. No. They were probably just out on a morning jog. They would be home in a half and hour.
A half and hour passed and they were no where to be seen. "DADDY! MOMMY! WHERE ARE YOU!"
Still. nothing.
A hour passed, then two, then three. They didn't come back.
I thought of everything they told me if something happened to them... call 911.
I ran back over to our home phone and dialed it in. I felt like my heart was going to explode in my chest. "911, how may I help you?" A lady asked.
"Umm, my... my parents are... missing... " I started balling, "I don't... know... know where they.. a... a.... a.... are. Can you h.... h....h....h....help m...me?"
"Are their wallets, cars and cellphones there, honey?"
"N... n... no. I've been wait... wait... waiting fo... for three..three.... h.... h... hours for t.... th....the.... them t....to c...o......m.....e b...b...back."
"Okay, sweetie. Where do you live?"
I boiled up with anger. My parents were missing and she was all calm and fine and oh, it's all right honey. How would she like it if she was six and her parents diapered a day before her birthday! "Are you still there, sweetie? Can you please answer my question."
I told her my address and a few minutes later they came. I couldn't see anything. I curled up there, holding my favorite stuffed animal, Eliphit She would comfort me through everything.
A man came up to me. "Don't worry," he smiled, "you're okay. When you calm down we have to ask you some questions."
I looked up, slowly nodded and then curled back into my position. Maybe they would come back. Maybe they were just on a really long walk and when they got home they would apologize and hug me as tight as they could. Yet, I knew in the back of my mind that was never going to happen. They had to be still alive. They couldn't be gone forever. I kept wailing. "Mommy, daddy!" I cried. "Come back!"
"Honey, can you come with us to answer some questions?" a man asked.
"Shut up George, you can see she's not ready."
I didn't want to deal with this. "I don't know anything," I cried. "The last thing they did was kiss me goodnight. I was asleep when they must've gone... or been kidnapped. I woke up and they weren't there but all of their stuff was. I searched the whole house. At first I thought they were hiding but after a while I knew they weren't. I remembered that they told me if anything happened to call 911, so I did. That's all I know."
"Sweetie," the woman asked, "do you have any relatives nearby?"
"No. Both my mom and dad were only child's. So were their parents, who are all dead. We don't have any close friends that I could stay with either. SO SORRY!"
I went back to balling. I heard them leave our kitchen. I looked up, my tears frozen on my face. I looked out the window behind me. I could escape from this. As my mom always said, when one door closes another one opens.
I open the window and ran out until I reached the cliff. The men and women in our house looked out. It was too tiny for them to go through. I held my stuffed animal tight. "DON"T JUMP HONEY!" a women called.
I jumped. I flew down to the surface of the water. I felt pain in my back and unseemly two tiny wings exploded from my back. They made me soar up. I was going to heaven wasn't I. I looked down to see my body one last time, but I saw nothing. "LOOK!" a man from the house called, "SHE'S RIDING ON AN EAGLE!""
Eagle? I looked down again. I didn't see an eagle. My wings took me deeper into Lake Superior. I looked back at my house one last time. I would find them.
