Chapter 1

I closed my eyes as I felt the perfect rock, smooth and flat. I threw it into the water and watched it skip across. I pulled out a feather from my wings. They were fully grown and some of them when you took them out would form into blades. I was 14 now and the police had given up on finding me. Plus their description of me would've been a little weird; little girl sitting on a flying eagle. Please find here and bring her to your local police station.
For my parents I didn't know. I wasn't done searching for them yet, but I didn't have much information. All I knew is that they didn't run away. No one wanted to buy our house so it ended up being a hangout place for gangsters. I couldn't go back though. It would be too hard. So many memories destroyed.
Lake Michigan was beautiful at this time. The sun slowly rised into the sky; pulling on a reflection to the waters. I still missed Lake Superior. I remember my first boat ride. I was too tiny to reach... well anything so my dad had to lift me up. They were so proud of me that day. I wished that I could've savored it more.
I let my wings let me lift me off the ground. I had more control over them know and I had grown to use them. I wondered how it was possible, but I had already fought things that shouldn't exist. What had happened shouldn't have happened. There was nothing odd about this world anymore.
I worked in a coffee shop in Wisconsin. All of the money I earned went to buying water and food- once and a while clothing. I created a fake life for myself. I was known as Eliphal Jems. I could never risk someone finding out who I really was. Lot's of people thought that I knew more information than I did. They thought that maybe I saw the person who did it, but was too frighted. The fact that I ran away in the first place didn't make it seem better either.
I realized that I was nearby to one of the towns so I let my body soar gracefully down. I tucked my wings into my back, put my blue hoodie on and started to run.
It was a windy day in Wisconsin and the tree's were started to wither away. I had an early morning shift. After that they thought I went to school, but I really bought some stuff for my day and headed back to the cliff side.
I arrived at the coffee shop; the scent of over priced coffee and croissants greeting me in. I got on my apron, name tag, and headed on over to the counter.
The work day started and so did I. It all was a blur. Everyday was a blur. Everything the same. It was annoying that even though you wen't happy you had to be all smiley and happy. Maybe this was the way the lady at 911 felt like.
I went to the grocery store and bought the food for the day. Most of it consist of crackers and food that I didn't have to cook.
I started to walk back down to the cliff side when I a small creature on the rode. I first thought it was a squirrel until I got a good look at it- and realized that squirrels aren't blue.
It turned around and I saw that it looked more like a baby dragon. It had a short stubby snout, big purple eyes, and tiny wings. For something that would grow up to be evil it was pretty cute. I started to walk towards it when it suddenly got angry. I took a feather out of my wings and let it form it to a long bronze dagger. The dragon glanced at it a started to get mad. It then started to grow. Like a puffer fish it filled up into a ball. It grew until it reached up towards the sky. I looked up and watched as fangs grew on the dragon and it's eyes started to arch. It's tiny wings had grown full mass and were as big as airplanes. On the dragons feet huge talons appeared and curved outward. The only thing keeping me from fainting in fright was that the dragon was in a ball. I flew up, pulling out another dagger from my wing for safety, and got ready to fight. I was about to attack and then I realized... the dragon was like a puffer fish.... because it was filled with air. The dragon released everything inside of it and I flew back. I hit the side of one of the houses and smashed through it. Luckily the residents weren't home.
I looked up; dazed, and felt a stinging pain in my back. I felt the small part of my back where my wings weren't. It felt cold. I ran my hand down and realized that blood was covering my back. Everything was blurry. Looked at the dragon and saw something unusual about it. A ring was on one of it's claws. It was coral and gold ring... and I knew it was my mothers.
The house started to collapse on me but my wings instinctively covered my face. I closed my eyes and forced my wings to move out. I pushed. I felt in agony as my back started to move around. The house parts exploded and I stood in the middle of all of it. It didn't matter thought. The dragon had something of my mothers and I needed it. I tried to walk but my left leg failed my. I dragged it over as I hopped on my right leg. My wings hurt from the effort but I wouldn't give up. I flew up took my wing daggers and flew in. The dragon was surprised and started to fill itself up with air again. I threw a dagger and it hit the dragon right in the eye. The dragon screamed in pain and let out all of the air it had received. I flew down, dogging it by an inch. Hitting the dragon seemed pretty effective so I started throwing anything that I could get at it. I held on to one of my daggers and aimed for the heart. I had a perfect aim- but the dragon swung. I flew up just in time and heard the scream as the dagger hit the dragons arm. I didn't stop; I kept flying.
I looked back down to see that the dragon was following me. I didn't know where to go so I headed into the lake. I dived down and curled back up- trying to get the dragon to go into the water. Instead it hovered over me and shot a gust of wind at my wings. The sped up and threw a dagger into the dragons belly. I dragon roared and started a jab at me. I had much practice with this but never on something so big. I couldn't believe that something so cute turned into something so evil. One of the claws scratched me in the face and I felt the cold blood starting to drip. I held a scream in my mouth but I couldn't stop the tears from flowing down. I was angry now. When I got angry I never got stupid, and charge like a bull. Getting angry mad me more powerful.
I lunged at the dragon shooting through the claws and failed attempts to hit me down. I took out a feather and shot it into the dragon's underbelly. I made sure I wedged it in there and then I shot up. The dagger went through the dragon like a knife went through butter. I sliced the whole entire front half of the dragon. I have never heard such loud of a scream. It reminded me that people seeing this fight would probably see me fighting a squirrel with a feather.
The dragon flew back to land and I followed. I wouldn't rest until it was dead. The dragon hunched over taking in air. I threw the dagger. It landed straight in the heart and the dragon exploded. My mothers ring flew through the air and I ran to catch it. I felt the words on it; Petáxte ton ouranó, fly the skies. I knew this was the first key to finding my parents, and I wouldn't stop until I found them.
