Wake Me Up

Chapter 2: Secret Released

For the next few days, I was alone. I wandered the halls, keeping my head down, avoiding people at all cost. I caught glimpses of Chris here and there. He would never look me in the eye. That made me feel even worse.
At lunch, I sat alone. Just me and my thoughts. Until my secret was released. The same guys who had learned my secret shared it with the whole school. At first it started with the whispers here and there. Then people started to stare in the halls. Until one day, a group of kids came to me at lunch.
“Is it true you’re a witch?” one girl asked.
“Yeah, do some magic!” another said.
My hands shook on the table, “I-i I’m not a witch.”
“Come on Abby! Do something! Prove to everyone that you are what you say.” one of the guys who revealed my secret yelled.
“I’m not a witch! I never said I was! I don’t want to be one!” I cried. I slammed my fist on the table and every water bottle in the cafeteria exploded. Silence flooded the place. Everyone stared.
“I’m sorry… I-i...” I shammered. The cafeteria erupted into chaos. Everyone was screaming, backing as far from me as possible.
"She is a witch, stay away from her!" Someone yelled.
"Run away! Save yourself."
I stood from my chair, "Wait no! I'm not- I'm not a witch!"
I looked around the room at all the chaos. There was only one person not moving. Chris. He stood there, studying me. I made eye contact with him, pleading for help. He turned his eyes downward and shook his head. I closed my eyes, trying to shut down the tears. I heard the water fountains combust, releasing water everywhere. More screams of terror erupted. Teacher burst through the doors, running towards me. They grabbed my arms and pulled me away from all of the other kids, down the hall, and out the building.
I only knew one thing by the end of the day. I would not be returning to Highland Elementary.
