CHAPTER II


1 YEAR LATER

We were at what I thought was the foot of Tartarus. We had just dealt with the goddess Misery. I learned that Tartarus has no rules and that I could control poison with the powers I got from Poseidon. I tried drowning Misery in the stuff. Now I was staring off into empty space, at the edge of Tartarus. When I looked at Annabeth, she was transparent because the she had Death Mist, which shielded her from a monster's sight. The stuff didn't work on me for some strange reason. I just had to hope that none of he monsters notice me. The I heard a voice saying,"Perseus Jackson. Welcome to your father's realm,my brother". A being rose out of the darkness. She had a chariot of ghost horses and was wearing black armor."Who are you?" I asked."What? You don't know of me? Well,I am Nyx, one of the first primordial beings, and a daughter of Chaos. This void of nothingness is his domain. If a mortal,monster,or even a god fell into the void, they would dissolve like paper in water. I am immune since I am the daughter of Chaos. My palace is in the depths of the void" Nyx pointed. Sure enough, there was a large black and blue palace about three hundred meters below the edge of Tartarus, in the void."Wold I survive jumping into the void?" I asked Nyx."I'm not sure. You are a son of Chaos, but you are half mortal. The effects could be disastrous. But why don't you give it a try?" she said with a hint of a smile. I looked at Annabeth. All she did was shrug. You'll probably think I'm stupid, but I braced myself. I ran toward the edge of Tartarus, jumped as far as I could,and started falling into the void of Chaos.
