Siblings of Part of the Seven

“Percy!”

“Yeah mom?” I said poking my head in through the doorway of the kitchen.

“Paul and I are going out; I need you to take care of Andromeda while we’re gone.”

“Sure.” I answered shrugging. Mom told me where everything was that I might need; baby bottles, diapers, and the special baby milk.

“I have my phone on if you need anything; and, Percy be careful.”

“Okay, have fun, bye!”

“Thanks sweetie. See you soon.” With all that said, Sally left the kitchen to join Paul in the hallway. I sat down at the table waiting for the door close behind them. When it did I jumped up and ran to the master bedroom. I leaned over Andromeda’s crib and was struck with awe. She was the cutest two month old girl I had ever seen, she had chestnut hair that was thick like Sally’s, and had Paul’s hazel eyes; and it looked perfect on her. I stood there for a moment and then left for my room.

Uhg! I slapped my History book shut in frustration, and rested my head in my hands. I really don’t get how I’m going to need to know some inventers name in life! I sighed, and was about to reopen the book when I heard howling. I got up and went back into the master’s bedroom. Andromeda was awake and howling. I bent down over her crib and picked her up. I sat down on the bed and started to lightly bounce her on my knees. When she started to quiet down I started talking to her/myself.

“That’s it Andromeda, brother got you, your okay. You know, you need a nickname. Something that’s short for Andromeda, Hmmmm.” I sat there thinking for awhile, “Andy won’t do, to boyish. Meda? No, sounds too much like Medea.” I shivered thinking of the stories about her. How about Roma? Do you like?” Andromeda seemed to like it, “do you want to hear the story of how you were named?” I paused gathering my thoughts. “A few weeks after I came home you were born,” by now I had stopped bouncing her and was cradling her instead, “while mom was in the hospital, me and Paul brainstormed for names. Mom wanted another Greek name, so Paul went online while I thought of girl names in Greek mythology. I’m not very good at remembering whose name goes to which girl though… Anyway, Paul had been telling me names and their meanings, and I did the same, although with the main part of the story the girl was in, instead of the meanings. It was actually Paul who came up with your name; Andromeda. I admit I didn’t really like the name at first seeing as in the story she was going to be sacrificed to a sea monster, and then there was a ship named after her with monsters in it. But Paul had his reasons. He said that she got saved by Perseus and he liked the meaning, Ruler of Men. So saying, I will most-likely save you someday; hopefully not multiple times if at all. I hope you won’t ever have to be saved Roma. If you did, it would be because of me.” I choked as the realization of it hit me. I couldn’t put her in danger. Looking down I saw that she was sleeping, I sighed “I better put you down before my scent gets too strong on you.” I got off of the bed and put her back in her crib. I reluctantly went back to my room and homework.

I took a picture out of my backpack and showed it to a girl next to me.

“Awww… she’s so cute! I love her dark brown hair and chocolate eyes! So sweet!” gushed Elizabeth. I looked down at the picture; the baby in the picture looked so sweet and innocent, just like her name meaning, Flower that Never Fades.

“What’s her name again?”

“Amarata.” I answered. I put the picture back inside the backpack before anyone walking by wouldn’t notice. Right then the bell rang.

“Well I gotta go, see ya later Piper!” Elizabeth rushed off to her class. I sat for awhile before getting up; thankfully my classroom was pretty close to the cafeteria.

Once school was out I waited for Elizabeth, soon I could see her sprinting toward me. Her black hair was swishing behind her, it actually looked pretty comical, her hair going back and forth, her backpack thumping on her back and then every now and then she would wave at somebody. When she got to me, she slowed down breathing hard.

“Ready?” I said.

“Yup. Detour or not?”

“Let’s not do the detour. I need to relieve Mellie as fast as possible.” I said as we walked out of school and unto the sidewalk. My thoughts wandered to home. Mellie and Hedge were here to visit and help with the baby. They’ve been here since a few weeks after dad married Emma. I t had been almost a year since the beginning of the quest; luckily not that many monsters have attacked, so I was able to stay for the whole year! Just two more weeks of school, then back to camp!

“Earth to Piper!” I jumped a little as Elizabeth’s voice and hand came in contact with my senses. I really go to stop relaxing all of the time.

“Uh, what?”

“You zoned out there for awhile. Well, see you later or on Monday.” Elizabeth waved at me and then went around the corner toward her house. I called bye back to her, then went on my way. Elizabeth and I lived two blokes away; so it was easy to walk home together. When I got home I immediately went to my room. I dropped my backpack on my desk, and then went back down to find Mellie.

Finales were done! I decided to visit Camp Jupiter; I heard Jason had come back from CampHalf-Blood. I was also hoping that Percy, Piper, Leo, Thalia, and Nico, were going to be there. Lucky for Thalia sand Jason, Artemis let Thalia hang out with her little brother a lot. It was like a tradition, when one visits the other camp, the rest follow. I parked my car at the nearest parking spot I could find, and then walked to the tunnel. When I had gotten across the lanes of traffic, I saw two guards; as usual; when I got nearer I saw that the one on the left looked Asian and the one on the right was an African American.

“Annabeth?” said the one on the left. I recognized that voice.

“Frank? Hazel?”

“Annabeth! It’s so good to see you!” Hazel exclaimed hugging me.

“It’s good to see you too Hazel; and Frank,” I turned to him and then hugged him, “it’s nice to see you. Have any of the others arrived?”

“Piper, Thalia, and Leo have. How long are you staying?”

“I don’t know… how long is Jason here?”

“He say’s he’ll be here for a week before he goes to do something for Lupa.” Frank answered.

“Do you want to escort me, or should I just go inside by myself?” I said with humor in my voice. Hazel and Frank came to a conclusion, Frank would stay, and Hazel would go with me. It felt good to talk to Hazel again; for we hadn’t talked since Spring Break when we all went to Camp Half-Blood. We talked about everything that had been going on between Spring Break and Finals week.

Almost right after we had crossed the Little Tiber, we were surrounded by friends. Reyna and Jason stepped toward us out of the crowd. Jason was in front of Reyna, so I hugged and greeted him first; I hugged Reyna next, after we pulled apart she greeted me like she would to anybody else. Reyna and Jason lead Hazel and I to the Garden of Bacchus. We sat down under the grapevines and caught up with each others lives. Soon we were joined by Piper, Thalia, Frank, and Leo.

“Is Kelp Head is coming?”

“I don’t know Thalia. But then he does tend to be late due to him forgetting the time difference.”

“Is Percy Kelp Head?” Reyna asked looking amused.

“Who else?! I mean he can be so full of kelp; and then he says these stupid stuff like all the time! He can even be worse than Fire Boy and Death Breath!”

“Hey! Who are you calling Fire Boy?! If anything I’m Fire Dude.” Leo said nodding like he was groovy. After a little pause of looking at Leo weirdly, everyone but Reyna and I started shouting nicknames at each other. I passed Reyna an annoyed look that said what are they doing? She looked at everyone around her and then back at me. She shrugged with this bored look on her face.

“Hey Pinecone Face!” shouted two new male voices at the same time. Everyone looked around for the owners of the voices.

“Up here Blond Superman!” the voices yelled. The voices sounded familiar, but together I couldn’t place them. Jason looked up, a little faster than everyone else. At first I couldn’t see anything but clouds, then a black smudge came hurtling toward us. Everyone scrambled up and out of the way of the black shape. As I got up I started having suspicions of what and who it was. Black, fast, two voices I recognized; yeah I knew who was coming toward us. I looked at Thalia, who ended up next to me, and saw she had just figured it out. Black Jack landed right in front of everyone.

“Hey guys.” A voice said causally from behind us. I jumped ten inches in the air.

“Nico! What are you doing?” I said turning around to face him.

“Yeah, and why did you do that Death Boy?” Thalia said rounding on him and giving him her deluxe death glare. Chuckling came from the direction of Black Jack.

“Percy… did you plan this?”

“No. Nico suggested it.” He said answering me.

“You should’ve seen your faces… it was priceless!” Nico sighed and then continued rambling, “And then when you all jumped at my voice; hahahah; sorry ‘bout that by the way.” Nico took a big breath then let it out with laughter. Percy started laughing out loud with Nico, both boys were bent over. Soon Leo, Hazel, Piper, and Thalia were laughing with them. I and the others who weren’t laughing looked at them with wonderment. What was so funny?
