Alexander Jackson; the Great
A Tour and Dinner
We all walk outside and again I have to let my eyes adjust to the sun. I am introduced to the Camp Leaders; Chiron, Mr. D, and some other old guy in a purple tunic. They were arguing over something to do with how the camp is run, but Mr. D didn't look very interested. He was too busy chugging down a can of diet coke.
Ping. Another Déjà Vu moment, sort of.
Percy takes me through the archery range and the sword fighting arena. I spot the knives and feel a little relief - my weapon. That's when Percy has to leave and Annabeth takes over the tour. Cute couple.
Annabeth shows me everything else. She takes me through the Fortress, the lake, the forest, the forge, the armoury, the Amphitheatre, the bonfire and lastly, the cabins.
"There is so much more that you haven't seen!" She says excitedly. You can tell she really loves this place. Since I haven't been 'claimed' yet, Annabeth shows me to the Hermes cabin, but after seeing the library in the Athena cabin, I asked to stay in there. I've always been fascinated with books, for as long as I can remember, which isn't very long. She went in and asked, then gestured for me to come in.
I was introduced to almost everyone in Cabin 6, then they showed me to my bunk and Annabeth left. I didn't have any stuff with me, so I just wandered out and looked around. There was something like 30 cabins arranged in a horseshoe shape, which I'm told is the Omega symbol of Ancient Greek, and another 20 or so cabins arranged like a military base were across the way.
Later on I'm told that all of this should come naturally to me in a while. Something about being hard wired for it?
A horn blasts and it's time for dinner. I have no idea where the dining hall is so I follow everyone else and get there fine. A voice shouts across the hall:
"Alex! Over here!"
A girl named Alyssa waves me over to the Athena table. I sit down and smile awkwardly, and as everyone takes their seats, Chiron gets up and asks for quiet. I gasp when I realise the Chiron is half horse, half human. I must have missed it because of the way he sat before. Alyssa heard me because she whispers in my ear; "He's a Centaur."
Ping. Another memory. Sort of.
Chiron's booming voice echoes across the marble hall. "We have a new demigod today, campers! Stand up, uhhhh, Alex?" Everyone is silent as I stand up and look around.
"What is your full name, Alex?" Chiron asks me.
"Alexander Robert Jackson" I reply. Whispers start up around the room as people stare at the top of my head. I look up to see a little shimmering Owl above my head.
I sit down awkwardly yet again as the people on my table revel in the happiness of a new demigod. I guess this means I am a demigod after all. I get many congratulations from people around my table. Alyssa, Ben, Jonathan, Rose, Sarah and then Annabeth all pat me on the back. I've never realised how good it feels to have a home.
After everyone settles down again, Chiron reads a role call for every table. As he reads out the Zeus/Jupiter table, I see a girl Annabeth's age at the Aphrodite/Venus table shed a tear, obviously mourning someone. Then I look at Annabeth's table, and I see they have their heads down in mourning, as well.
"Who died?" I whisper to Alyssa.
