Prince of the Underworld
Prologue
Running through the thick and dense cluster of trees in the Central Park woods was a young boy no older than 7. He had a resigned expression on his face but it soon turned to one of terror and desperation as he heard a loud growl behind him. He started to run faster, tripping over branches. A small clearing came into view with two people sitting on either side of a large fire. One of them, a woman, was tending to the fire. He wanted to yell out for help, but didn't have the energy to do so. He jumped over the fire and landed sprawled out. He was too weak to get up.
The large hound came into view. It was extremely large, unnaturally so. The man stood up. He wore long black robes and exuded an aura of fear and depression. The hound walked over to the man and bowed. The man snapped his fingers and the ground opened up and swallowed the hound whole.
The boy began to panic. This man seemed worse than the hound. He tried to get up and run away but found himself too weak to do so. Suddenly someone embraced him from behind. He tensed being unfamiliar to the sensation. But it was so warm and... made him feel whole, that he eventually relaxed into it. It was a motherly embrace, warm, comforting and inviting. He turned to meet her eyes. They were glowing like embers.
"Wh..who are you?" He stuttered trying to catch his breath.
She gave him a gentle smile and replied, "I am Hestia, my dear. And you are?"
"Percy Jackson"
He turned around remembering the man who had saved him. He was surveying the scene in front of him with pensive eyes.
"Thank you. For saving me, I mean." Still unsure what the man would do to him.
He stared at him for a moment, then spoke with a hint of distaste, "He's one of Poseidon's. I can see it through his eyes. He has broken the oath."
The woman, Hestia, looked at him and spoked in a neutral tone, "Yes, but the child is not to blame. Hades, you will not seek retribution through him. Now my dear, what are you doing here alone? Where is your mother?"
His expression changed into one of rage and distaste, "She's dead. My stepfather took care of that."
The man, Hades if he remembered, looked as though he were about to argue, but hearing the boy, his expression softened and he said, "Very well. I will let the boy be."
Percy was wracked over in his grief and sorrow. His sea-green eyes glowed. Hades looked at him, stunned. The boy's power rolled off him in waves. He was clearly going to be a force to be reckoned with. He began to examine his mind. What he saw, had him transfixed and filled with rage and sorrow for the boy who had to suffer so much at such an age.
Hades too pity on him and looked into his eyes and commanded, "Sleep."
The boy slumped down and feel to sleep in Hestia's lap.
"He is clearly extremely powerful. More powerful than any demigod I have seen before." Hades said impressed.
"Yes. He will most likely be the child of the prophecy. Now, what do you think we can do for him? He will obviously be killed if I take him to Zeus on Olympus. Poseidon, I think, has wronged him enough. Just look at the poor boy's state. He's obviously malnourished and skinny. He will need a father figure in his life." Hestia said with a meaningful look at Hades.
"What.. You can't expect me to take care of him. After all he's one of Poseidon's. He'll obviously end up backstabbing me the first chance he gets." Hades replied shocked at the very thought.
"Now, brother, you cannot accuse him of what his father did or does. And besides, who better than him. He will bring joy to the Underworld. And a child will do good for Persephone. She might actually like the idea of raising a son who isn't one of yours. It would give her incentive to spend more time in the Underworld. Think, the child of the prophecy from the House of Hades. It would bring much needed respect and honour. I will help you as well. He will have my full blessing. This child will be my first and only champion." Hestia said with hopeful eyes.
"Very well. I accept. You can explain the situation to both him and Persephone." Hades said rising up.
Hestia nodded and then vanished in flames.
"Yes. The boy will bring about major changes. Both in Olympus and in the Underworld." Hades mused with a thin smirk on his lips.
--------------------------------------Line Break---------------------------------
Hestia stood in her brother's throne room thinking about the latest events. Perseus had taken everything quite well. To Hades's pleasure, he didn't think of Poseidon as his father and considered Hades as his father. Perseus had jumped at being given the choice to get adopted.
Today was the adoption ceremony. The Olympian Goddess, Demeter was present as well along with her daughter, Persephone, who had taken a liking to Perseus immediately. Millions of shades and bodies of the dead attended. The Three Furies were in attendance for the ceremony as well. The plan was the blood ritual which would involve Hades giving blood to Perseus. After that, Hestia was to claim the boy as her champion giving him powers over fire. This would in short make him extremely powerful.
Perseus was wearing a long black robe and looked majestic along with his father who was seated in his throne. Three loud bells chimed signalling the start of the ceremony. A short round table engraved with runes also appeared.
Hades and Perseus stepped forward. The three furies began to chant together in Greek. Hades clasped his soon-to-be son's shoulder and spoke loudly,
"I, Lord Hades of the Underworld, offer myself to you as a father under the Ancient Laws. Do you accept?"
"I do." Perseus replied firmly
Hades slashed his wrist and summoned a goblet. The blood pooled into the goblet.
Perseus slashed his own wrists as well. He then poured Hades's blood into his veins.
The Furies began to chant faster as a golden glow emitted from Perseus. His entire form began to glow. When it dulled out, Perseus was still standing, though slightly shaken.
The crowd broke out in a roar of cheers. Hades smirked triumphantly as this had been a test of Perseus's strength and he had surpassed expectations. It meant that the people of the Underworld accepted Perseus.
Hades stepped forward and the crowd fell silent again. Hades snapped his finger and Alecto carried forward a velvet cushion on which a crown was resting. He gestured to his son who stepped forward in a regal manner. Hades placed the crown on his head and said,
"I crown you, Perseus the First of your name, as the Prince of the Underworld and all the responsibilities along with it. I name you my heir."
The cheers of the crowd were deafening. Hades had a huge smile on his face as his son was crowned. Hestia stepped forward and said,
"I name you Perseus, as my Champion and all the responsibilities that accompany it. You are blessed with my powers."
Perseus glowed with a red light this time. The air around him heated up. All the people in the room were forced to their knees at this show of power save the Olympians, Hestia and Persephone and even they looked strained. Hades looked shocked and vowed to start his heir's training as soon as possible. He would enlist the help of all the greatest demigods like Theseus that were in the Underworld. He would make his son and heir the greatest demigod to ever exist.
